he Sea Explorers Marine Camp was recently held at the Sport Fishing Education Center in Babylon, Cedar Beach Marina. The campers, who attend this camp from communities throughout western Suffolk, discovered amazing creatures living in our local oceans, bays, and salt marshes as they handled marine animals in their touch tanks, participated in beach activities and games and seined the salt marshes.

By: Jamie Lynn Ryan Back to school. Back to schedules. Back to routines. Back from vacation. Back to reality. And so it begins. That slow, tedious transition into all things Autumn. That gradual acceptance of pumpkin spice and flowering mums and long sleeves and boots, and the reluctant closing of pools and packing away of bathing suits and flip flops. Say it ain’t so. Ah, but here it is. May as well embrace it. And while you’re sitting on a
park bench enjoying the cool crisp air (shameless plug alert), take a look at our new Autumn issue of Seasons Magazine for a refresher course on all that Long Island has to offer, no matter the time of year. From long walks on the beach and picnics in the park to weekends at the wineries and pumpkin patches; from family days at Oktoberfest celebrations and Fall Festivals to “me” time alone on the couch vegging out to the new fall TV season, there is literally something for everyone to enjoy.
Oh, and we can’t forget football. Sundays monopolized by the schedule of the home teams (or the Patriots, as the case may be), spent tailgating and snacking, rooting and yelling… Sunday Funday at its best. Having a schedule dictated by the hours of daylight has its downfalls; but it does make you want to savor those final glimpses of summer sunshine all the more. Take a walk, watch a sunset, sip a cup of tea on the patio. Maybe just grab a jacket on the way out.

Incoming seventhgraders at Babylon JuniorSenior High School went back to school early as they participated in the school’s annual orientation program on August 28th. Welcomed by Principal Al Cirone and members of the student council, the newest members of the school were given a brief overview of the rules and regulations, as well as
introduced to a number of activities to participate in and clubs to join. Following the welcome, the seventh-graders met with the student council members who provided them with their schedules, locker combinations and a tour of the building. While the students were practicing opening their lockers and getting the lay of the land, Mr. Cirone
covered such policies as the morning drop-off routine, the importance of the attendance policy and the close-knit environment that exists in the school with parents. He also shared a few tips on how the parents can help their children transition smoothly to the juniorsenior high school and the various support services in place.

Reunion Celebrated The Babylon High School Class of 1974 recently celebrated its 40th Class Reunion at the beautiful home of Mrs. Theresa Santmann who hosted the event for the Class of 1974. Her son, Dr. John B. Santmann, a former member of the Class of 1974 was among those in attendance. Classmates came from Arizona, Texas, Virginia, North Carolina,
Florida, Connecticut, New Jersey, all over New York and Long Island including Westchester County and, of course Babylon, to attend this stellar event. Classmates were treated to an elegant evening under the stars with dinner, drinks and wonderful music. This event also served as a fund raiser for the BHS Class of 1974 Scholarship
Fund which was created 10 years ago to remember and honor the life of Pat Winter Giangregorio. This scholarship has been renamed to the Babylon High School Class of 1974 Memorial Scholarship to remember and honor the lives of all BHS Classmates in memoriam. Peter Seitz, one of the reunion organizers announced over $4000 was raised to sustain
