Relay For Life chance to celebrate the lives of people who have battled cancer. There was a special reception for survivors and caregivers, an opening ceremony, a luminary ceremony and a closing ceremony. Each was marked with a special lap. In between, there were fun laps, musical performances, a DJ playing tunes to keep the walkers motivated, inspiration stories from survivors and

Chemically Inclined North Babylon High School student Emily Michele was selected by the American Chemical Society as a recipient of its Long Island Subsection’s award for Outstanding Scholastic Achievement in High School Chemistry. Michele’s chemistry teacher, Lindsey Loscalzo, nominated the standout

student for the award, saying that “she was a clear candidate from the start, is very intelligent and has a remarkable work ethic.” As a result of the prestigious award, Michele is now a part of the world’s largest scientific community, which has been changing the face of chemistry for more than 25 years.

Part of the American Chemical Society’s Mission Statement is to promote excellence in science education and community outreach, of which the hope is to improve lives through chemistry. “I believe if Emily sticks with chemistry, she will do exactly that,” Loscalzo said.
