ifth-graders at Belmont Elementary School in the North Babylon School District culminated their unit on the solar system by videoconferencing with educators from National Aeronautics Space Administration. The unit included lessons about research using books and online resources, such as NASA Space101; fantasy art, which students created by designing their own planet, moon or sun; and music.

On Saturday, May 7th, 2016 Angela’s House will be hosting their 1st Annual Walk aptly titled: Angel of Hope: A Walk to Remember. This event will take place at Eisenhower Park, where the statue has stood since 2008. During the past eight years we have had a candle light vigil on the first Saturday of December that gives hope to over 300 that attend this spiritual gathering. Due to popular demand we have created this event as the second gathering of the year. The Angel was brought to Long Island by Bob Policastro the founder of Angela’s House. It comes from a best-selling book and television movie called The Christmas Box by Richard Paul Evans, who inspired this statue. In the story, an elderly woman mourns the death of her little daughter by making regular trips to the child’s grave, which is marked with an angel statue (Angel of Hope). The statue evokes a profound and miraculous connection between mother and child

A Walk to Remember Continued From 3 and helps convey valuable lessons about the true meaning of life to others. This simple, non-religious but spiritual story has brought hope to thousands of parents who have endured the death of a child. As spring begins, Mother’s Day is celebrated by most families, but sadly there are many who walk with the pain of losing a child. They always have a space in their heart where that love is still carried. Our hope is to
allow the Angel of Hope to be a reminder that the love shared with their child was a blessing and can always be cherished and remembered. All who knew the child, but especially their parents, need to feel hope that they will survive and move on, and that these children will never be forgotten. Registration for the event will begin promptly at 9:30 a.m. at the Kite Field, located next to the statue, which is located in the Veterans Memorial section of Eisenhower Park. Parking
field 6 is the ideal location to park. Our ceremony, which will begin by 10:15 a.m., will include a 20 minute non-religious, nondenominational, Spiritual Ceremony which has been written to be reflective, focusing on the love that is missed and will always be carried by the loved ones of these children. Led by Executive Director, Bob Policastro, we will also be joined by our guest speaker is David Roberts, who lost his daughter in 2003 from Cancer. David speaks
nationally at conferences, writes blogs reflecting his life experiences for the Huffington Post, Open to Hope and various other online periodicals and websites. In addition, Interfaith Minister, Rev. Patty Furino will lead a quiet reflection, and a simple prayer to inspire peace. To conclude the ceremony we have invited the voices of choirs and chorus’s from around Long Island. Members of the New Apostolic Church and the Willow Interfaith Women’s
Choir will lead the attendees and participants in singing “Clouds,” a beautifully touching song written by Zach Sobiech, who touched so many lives with this song, and continue to do so despite losing his battle to cancer a few years ago. Upon its completion, the attendees will then follow a path around Salisbury Lake, hopefully inspired to look up at the clouds, knowing their child has been remembered
and cherished. The walk, which is less than a mile long, will conclude at the statue. We hope to invoke the feeling of faith and hope and make this event an inspiring day for all who participate. We truly believe this type of event will help families dealing with the loss of a child during Mother’s Day weekend. Safe Transaction Zones The Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office has created two Safe Transaction Zones designed to help protect citizens from various crimes associated with online transactions including robberies, thefts and assaults. Future planning will expand this
initiative to additional locations. The safe transaction zones are located at the Sheriff’s Office, 100 Center Drive in Riverhead and at our Yaphank Facility, (address). Both are clearly marked with red and white signs and are in full view

NASA to Belmont Fifth-graders at Belmont Elementary School in the North Babylon School District culminated their unit on the solar system by videoconferencing with educators from National Aeronautics Space Administration.
The unit included lessons about research using books and online resources, such as NASA Space101; fantasy art, which students created by designing their own planet, moon or sun; and music, which offered students a unique

perspective in the form of various compositions. The videoconference offered students the opportunity to ask an expert in the field questions based on what they have learned throughout the unit.

Learn to Draw
The Babylon Citizens Council on the Arts is offering art classes for children in grades one through five, to be held at the Babylon Town Hall Annex, 281 Phelps Lane, Room 15, North Babylon. Learn to Draw with Art Teacher Amy begins on Tuesday, May 3rd, from
4:15 to 5:15 p.m. and will run for five weeks. The cost of this class is $63 and includes all supplies. Children are instructed using a step-by-step approach to drawing. They will learn to draw various subject matter, including portraits, landscapes, still life, animals and master
art works. The children will experiment with different mediums, such as chalk pastels, oil pastels, watercolors, markers and colored pencils. They will learn color theory, art history and elements of art. To register, contact the BACCA office at 631.587.3696.
Twelve year-old animal educator and journalist Victoria Bonavita recently sat down with legendary Apollo 11 astronaut Dr. Buzz Aldrin at the Book Revue in Huntington to talk about his latest book “No Dream Is Too High – Life Lessons From a Man Who Walked on the Moon.” On July 20th, 1969 Buzz Aldrin and Neil Armstrong were the first men ever to land and walk on the moon. On that
historic day, a quarter of the world’s population listened to the two men communicate with NASA as they narrowly landed their spacecraft with just thirty seconds of fuel left. Following touchdown, Armstrong radios Houston “The Eagle has landed.” In response, mission control erupts in celebration as the tension breaks, and a controller tells the crew “You got a bunch of guys about to turn blue, we’re
breathing again.” When the mission was over, the two men left behind an American flag, a patch honoring the fallen Apollo 1 crew, and a plaque on one of Eagle’s legs. It reads, “Here men from the planet Earth first set foot upon the moon. July 1969 A.D. We came in peace for all mankind.” During the interview Victoria and Dr. Aldrin discussed how he felt standing on the moon and looking back on earth, the importance of chimpanzees in making space travel possible and his advice for someone who dreams big. They also discussed the fact that the Disney character Buzz Lightyear is named after him. Victoria said she was incredibly honored to have the opportunity to interview such a special man whom she called a “True American Hero.” Victoria’s full interview can be seen at www. The Music Lovers Club was founded in 1925 to share an interest in and appreciation of music, to extend to others the pleasure derived from and to provide scholarships to outstanding young musicians who are seniors in high school and live in the towns of Babylon and Islip. The hope is that these scholarships will help foster the continuation of their musical development. This year, as they celebrate their 90th year, they are proud to say that on Sunday, April 24th, they will be presenting their 66th annual Scholarship Benefit Concert. The performers for the concert will be this year’s winners. They will
join a list of almost 200 other winners from the past 65 years. Following the performance, they will receive their scholarship awards.
