Town of Oyster Bay Supervisor John Venditto, Councilman Joseph Pinto, Councilwoman Michele Johnson and Town Clerk James Altadonna Jr., welcomed players and coaches from the U.S. Military All-Stars and the Long Island Force to John J. Burns Field in Massapequa for the First Annual Supervisor’s Trophy Game. The Military All-Stars, a

team of players with ties to the U.S. Armed Forces came to the Town of Oyster Bay to play against the Long Island Force, a team of prominent Long Island high school baseball players. The U.S. Military AllStars, who won the game 8-5, tour the nation to promote awareness of the sacrifices made by members of the U.S. Military.

In addition to the game the night featured, a youth baseball clinic, a home run derby contest and patriotic ceremonies. Also on hand were Nassau County Legislator Michael Venditto, Massapequa Park Mayor Jeffrey Pravato, District Court Judge Rhonda Fischer and Anthony and Tony Passalacqua of Long Island Baseball.

On Wednesday, July 10th, The Zombies featuring Colin Blunstone and Rod Argent will bring their swinging 60’s hits to Ellsworth Allen Town park, Motor Avenue, Farmingdale. “From their gorgeous melodies to their breathy vocals and choral backup harmonies, The Zombies left a lasting impact when they first burst onto the scene in the 1960’s,” Supervisor Venditto said. “Now, almost 50 years later, Colin Blunstone and Rod Argent, two founding

members of The Zombies, continue to spread their musical legacy with rich harmonies and intuitive melodies, on both classic hits and new material.” For fans of rocking and swinging big band music, Thursday, July 11th, will offer a special treat, when “The Jumpers” come to Tappen Beach, Shore Road, in Glenwood Landing. “The Jumpers are an 11 piece orchestra that combines the musical styles of swing, jazz, big band, and rock,” Supervisor Venditto said. “Come out for a night with the Jumpers Orchestra, and see the American songbook performed like you’ve never heard before.” On Friday, July 12th, Dean Karahalis and the Concert Pops Orchestra will bring the “Magical Music of Disney” to young and old alike at Syosset-

This seems to have been the weather forecast for the last, I don’t know, two or three weeks or so, give or take a day when it was obviously, undeniably… raining. What to do with this kind of uncertainty? Cancel all plans and batten down the hatches “just in case,” right? Um… no. I shake my head when I see people frantically rearranging their schedules to accommodate the weather – that great, unpredictable force of Mother Nature that we are all beholden to. Why? Chances are, the

so-called experts will be slightly off, or, better yet, completely wrong. Best to cover all bases by predicting a little of everything, no? No. How about some good old-fashioned meteorology to back up these forecasts – and future-casts? Or better yet, how about we focus on getting the one-day right before expanding into the next 7-10 days? Life is unpredictable enough as it is. The last thing we need is others’ farflung foresight thrown into the mix to ensure that no plans are ever made, nothing is ever done and we all just sit around and “play it safe.”

Robotics Camp Set School-Business Partnerships of Long Island, Inc. (SBPLI) has announced that registration is now open for the FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Robotics Summer Day Camp, which is being held in cooperation with Dowling College for the second year in a row. The camp will run from July 22nd to July 26th at Dowling College,

located at 150 Idle Hour Boulevard in Oakdale. This summer camp is designed for children ages 9-18 and is meant to inspire Long Island students to become interested in science, technology, engineering and math. There will be beginner and advanced levels for FIRST LEGO League (FLL) campers, as well as sessions for high school robotics campers.

Each FLL level will be divided into teams who will build and program robots to perform tasks. On Friday, July 26th, parents and friends will be welcome to attend a demonstration of what their children had learned as the campers program their robots to execute certain tasks. High school students will learn all of the systems that comprise a large 120-pound robot and will

actually program and work on existing robots. This camp is designed for incoming freshmen, sophomores and students at all levels who haven’t played an active technical role on a high school robotics team. The day camp will run each day from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Campers should arrive at 8:45 a.m. Children who are dropped off earlier will be brought to

a supervised location, but such transportation plans must be made in advance. Registration is available online at camp.sbplilifirst.org for $465. (All online registrations will be confirmed via email.) Those who wish to register via mail will receive a $15 discount, at a reduced price of $450.
