Oyster Bay Town residents are reminded that the Second Half of the 2016 General Tax Levy is due on July 1st, but can be paid without penalty through August 10th. Please be certain to sign your check, payable to James J. Stefanich, Receiver of Taxes. Indicate your property’s S.D. Code, Section, Block, Lot and Phone number on the check. By law, a taxpayer has a 40-day penalty free period from the date the tax is due during which payment may be submitted. After the 40 days, a one percent penalty is added for each month the tax remains unpaid, retroactive to July 1st. Residents can pay in person, by either cash or check, at the Tax Office, Oyster Bay Town Hall West, 74 Audrey Avenue, Oyster Bay, or by check only at our office in Town Hall South (rear entrance), 977 Hicksville Road, Massapequa. When paying the tax bill in person, taxpayers are reminded to bring the entire tax bill

with their payments. In addition, the Hicksville Annex, at the TOB Parking Facility, 55 Duffy Avenue, Hicksville, will be open to accept payments by check only, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. on August 3rd, 4th, 5th, 8th, 9th and 10th. Residents who prefer to mail in their payments, should send them to the Office of the Receiver of Taxes, 74 Audrey Avenue, Oyster Bay, N.Y. 117711539. Payments being made by mail should include the second half stub. Residents should NOT write on, fold, staple or otherwise deface the tax stub as it can cause the computer system to reject payment. We can all use a little sunshine in our lives. No matter how happy we may be, there is always room for more. It is a life source, a beacon of positivity, light, warmth – all features whose benefits have the ability to make daily life that much more fulfilling. Sure, not everyone is a “summer” person. But I don’t know of too many who fail to embrace the positive qualities a little daylight provides. Come winter, spring, summer or autumn, the sun shines on, allowing all those who wish to bask in its glow. Don’t get me wrong. I love a good thunderstorm just as much as the next person. There is something about inclement weather which

affords the easy excuse to be just a bit more unproductive than when the sun is shining brightly. One doesn’t feel so guilty sleeping a little later, pushing aside some of those errands, saving that running around for another day. To everything, and everyone, there is a season. Luckily for us, we have four distinct ones to enjoy – or count the days down until they pass – whichever method you prefer. For me, I say it is always better to appreciate that time rather than wish it away. Six months ago, we were checking off the days until summer vacation and beach weather and all the rest that comes with extended hours of sunshine was to arrive. And six months from now, we shall

be doing the same. Such is the circle of life. Personally, I make it my mission to witness as many sunsets as possible and – though it pains me to “rise and shine” quite that early – even my fair share of sunrises. There is something quite magical about the dawning of a new day; same with the golden glow which overtakes the landscape as the sun prepares to dip below the horizon. So go outside, take a walk, absorb your surroundings. Take it all in. Allow the warmth of the sun to touch your soul. It’s the most natural form of healing we have, and it’s there for the taking. Embrace it. Happy Summer to all.

Town Beaches Open Daily

The Town’s beautiful beaches at Tobay and Philip B. Healey at Florence Avenue in Massapequa, Centre Island, Charles E. Ransom, and Stehli in Bayville, Harry Tappen in Glen Head and Theodore Roosevelt Memorial Park in Oyster Bay open daily for residents to enjoy beginning Saturday, June 25th. Beach lovers look forward to the summer all year. Starting June 25th, residents can visit any of the Town’s beaches any day of the week including weekends and holidays. Town Residents may choose to pay a daily entrance fee of $20 each time they go to the beach

or purchase a seasonal beach sticker for $60, which allows entrance to all seven Town of Oyster Bay beaches all summer long. Non-residents may purchase a daily pass for $50 on weekdays only at Tobay, Centre Island and Ransom. Only Centre Island and Ransom Beaches allow non-residents on weekends for a daily fee of $60. Tappen Beach allows non-residents to purchase a season pass for $120 or pay a daily entrance fee of $40, both only good for Tappen Beach. Senior citizens, 60 and older, are able to obtain a beach sticker at the tollgates at no charge by showing their car

registration and Town issued Senior Citizen Beach I.D. Card, available at the Town Clerk’s Office for a one-time fee of $30, plus a $2 photo fee. Disabled Town residents who are receiving disability insurance benefits under the Social Security Act, as well as those who have a permanent disability as certified in writing by a physician, can obtain a free beach sticker after first securing an I.D. card at the Town Clerk’s Office for a one-time fee of $30 plus a $2 photo fee. Residents who are Veterans/active military located within the Town of Oyster Bay can pick up a Seasonal Sticker for $30. For Tappen Only,

Pools are always an enjoyable summer activity for swimmers of all ages.
