Pa l - O - M i n e Equestrian is a comprehensive therapeutic equine program that uses horses to facilitate growth, learning and healing for individuals with disabilities and for other vulnerable populations that was founded by Lisa Gatti. Located at 829 Old Nichols Road in Islandia, Pal-O-Mine grew from having two programs, eight horses and 80 students per week to 11 programs, 25 horses and 400 students per week. This organization sits on eight acres, with a 20-stall barn, handicapped accessible bathrooms, a new 100’ x 120’ indoor arena with stateof-the-art footing and a rider hoisting system, and three outdoor riding arenas. Individuals of all ages are welcome to take part in the programs they offer. They operate with five full-time employees, 35 independent contractors and 80 volunteers a week. Their riding instructors have experience with the following diagnoses: Autism Spectrum Disorders, Anxiety Disorders, Sensory Processing Disorder, Attention Deficit Disorder, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Neurological Disorders, Cerebral Palsy, Traumatic Brain Injury, Multiple Sclerosis, Down Syndrome, Spina Bifida, Genetic Disorders and Emotional Disturbances.They also offer group programs, individual lessons, corporate workshops and a program specifically designed for military members. Pal-O-Mine wants you to know just how they can help those who have served in our military, along with those who are still serving our nation. For more than four thousand years, horses have been an integral part of warfare. Today, horses are still playing an important role in war, this time in the recovery of military veterans who have suffered emotional and/ or physical injuries. Pal-O-Mine Equestrian is an EAGALA Designed Military Program.This designation asserts that EAGALA Certified Professionals working with the military have specialized training and experience in the military community. Sessions at the farm are action, not talk and they offer individual, group and family sessions. Pal-O-Mine offers programs to Verterans from Vietnam, Gulf War, Iraq and Afghanistan and for Service men and women who fought in Operation Iraqi Freedom,

Operation New Dawn, Operation Enduring Freedom and for Active Duty Service Members. It’s not always easy to ask for help, but the benefits of doing so outweigh the fear. One military member who received help from this organizaiton mentioned the following, “For someone in the military like me, it’s hard to swallow my pride and ask for help. This was a safe environment to open up in. Dr. Cynthia Paulis proud veteran announces the annual 500 for 500 patriotic scholarship program for all seniors at Massapequa High School. The theme this year is Why Veterans are important to this country. In 500 words or less students will write an essay and submit it to Mr. Paul Weber in the guidance office. Make sure

Two students will be selected from the winning essays, one girl and one boy and will each receive $500 from Dr. Paulis and the essays will be read at a site to be determined later. North Shore Rapid COVID-19 Testing Facility Moves to a New Location

In an effort to increase efficiency and ease of access of COVID-19 testing, Nassau County in partnership with Northwell Health has moved the North Shore drive-thru COVID-19 rapid testing facility to 600 Community Drive in Manhasset. The drive-thru rapid

testing site will be open from 10 am to 3pm Monday through Friday. Appointments are required and can be made by calling 1-833-4CARENY (1-833422-7369). This COVID-19 testing is provided free regardless of insurance or immigration status. Testing will be open to Nassau County residents

New York Blood Center And Area Hospitals Launch Initiative To Increase Blood Donations Amid Pandemic

Four Massapequa High School students will showcase their musical abilities at this year’s All-State Music Festival, hosted by the New York State School Music Association. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the annual music conference will be held online. Kate Dramer (alto) and Carli Sanger (soprano) were chosen to NYSSMA vocal ensembles for the second time. Kate will perform with the treble chorus and Carli with the mixed

chorus. Mia Tichacek, also a second-time selection, will play the violin in the string orchestra. Jackson MacLeod, who plays the snare drum, was chosen as an alternate for the band’s percussion section. Their selection to these highly-competitive ensembles was based on evaluation scores and comments from the spring 2019 NYSSMA assessment as well as detailed recommendations from their music teachers. The 2020 Cyber Summit will

feature music workshops, guest speakers, virtual showcase and student performances. All-State musicians will also join virtual ensembles for a closing concert. Principal Barbara Lowell, Director of Fine and Performing Arts Vincent Green and music teachers Eva Arnold, Ilena Dempsey, Andrew Dwork, Nichole Green and Marjorie Spagnuolo congratulate the student-musicians on their accomplishment.

Thanksgiving Love From Lockhart Fifth graders at Lockhart Elementary School have been eager for a way to give back to the Massapequa community, so they recently completed a service project to help local families for Thanksgiving. The students decorated large brown paper bags, which will go to the parish outreach center at St. Rose of Lima Church to be filled with food. On Nov. 4, children grabbed their pencils, pens, crayons and markers to add “Happy Thanksgiving” messages

to the bags. Students used their Chromebooks to look up inspirational messages and Thanksgiving symbols to get ideas for their unique designs. Teacher Christine Hoehn said this community service project showed what good role models the fifth graders are for the rest of the school. She noted that the students got to express their creativity while showing gratitude to the community that supports their educational opportunities.

Ms. Hoehn said the empty bags were provided by parents and the decorated bags will be delivered to the church by a parent. The church has already begun receiving many of the donations that will be part of the Thanksgiving food packages. “This was about helping other people who need it,” fifth grader Matthew Oweis said. “I feel good because it’s going to make other people happy and it hopefully will help them have a nice Thanksgiving.”

This is my thinking as the coronavirus fatigue begins to get to me as this pandemic seems to not want to end. This time of year, the days get shorter and daylight lesser, which seems to make people unhappy. We honored Father Tony Heinlein at our last meeting, and he was gratified that we recognized him.
