To help reduce water pollution in our town, Oyster Bay Town Councilwoman Vicki Walsh invites Scouts to participate in the Town’s new Strom Drain Medallion Marker Program. This program involves the placement of green medallions, with the slogan “only rain in the drain” onto the face of Town storm drain covers, thus reminding residents how critical it is for the safety of our waterways that only rain pass through curbside storm drains. “As water flows from outdoor surfaces like streets, parking lots, and driveways, it enters curbside storm drains that eventually discharge directly into our waterways. There is no treatment process before this water reaches a river, lake, or other water body, so any litter that comes in contact with it is transported along

The Ward Melville Heritage Organization & The Long Island Music & Entertainment Hall Of Fame Sign Long-Term Lease The Long Island Music & Entertainment Hall of Fame (LIMEHOF) board of trustees are excited to announce that the organization has signed a long-term lease with the Ward Melville Heritage Organization to house the non-profit organization’s first physical facility. The 8,800 square foot Education and Cultural Center (ECC) is located at 97 Main St, Stony Brook, NY in Stony Brook Village Center. “We are thrilled that LIMEHOF has found a permanent home in such a wonderful location” said Ernie Canadeo, Chairman, LIMEHOF. “We thank the Ward Melville Heritage Organization for leasing us the building. It’s in great condition and we’re looking forward to creating world-class displays that showcase Long Island’s rich and diverse musical and entertainment history in new and exciting ways. We will feature different and exciting exhibits, displays, videos and education offerings that will make our center a dynamic place for people of all ages to visit on a regular basis. We are planning a grand opening in November.” There will be a permanent “Hall of Fame” with plaques and exhibits recognizing the over 100 and growing inductees, as well as areas for a library, classrooms for educational programs and master classes, and a theater. “Our organization has grown and our wish has always been to have a physical facility to showcase our mission of celebrating Long Island’s musical history and supporting education,” LIMEHOF Co-founder Norm Prusslin added. “We can now achieve our dream.” The main exhibit space will contain a rotating exhibit theme, and the layout and first exhibit, “Long Island’s Legendary Club Scene: 1960’s-1980’s” is currently being designed by world-renowned visual designer Kevin O’Callaghan.

“Our Trustees feel this is a perfect fit with the other not-for-profits located in Stony Brook Village, namely, The Long Island Museum, The Jazz Loft and The Reboli Center,” said Dr. Richard Rugen, Chairman, Ward Melville Heritage Organization. “With all the other attributes in the Stony Brook Village, such as restaurants, shops, parks, Discovery Boat, kayaks, historic buildings and hotel, this is a perfect addition,” Gloria D. Rocchio, President, Ward Melville Heritage Organization, added. The multi-purpose building was constructed to hold exhibits, performances, classes and is wired for distance learning. When I heard that LIMEHOF was looking for a permanent home. Durso Announces Summer Reading Challenge The New York State Assembly’s 2022 Summer Reading Challenge is here, and Assemblyman Michael Durso (Massapequa Park) is encouraging students in New York and across Long Island to participate. Assemblyman Durso, in coordination with New York State libraries, is sponsoring this Summer Reading Challenge to inspire kids to explore far-off worlds, discover new interests or learn new skills. Over one million children and teens participated in the Summer Reading Challenge last year and we are looking for more young individuals to join for this year’s theme “Oceans of Possibilities,” celebrating all things water and ocean-

www.kinexion.org “Kinexion, (pronounced “connection”), is a brand new management service organization (MSO) on Long Island that oversees seven separate non-profits and provides them with infrastructure that frees them up to focus on what they do best, which is to offer best-in-class services to individuals with disabilities and progress society to a point where it embraces people of all abilities. Last week we featured two more the seven non-profits they oversee, this week you’ll learn about the remaining three. Angela’s House, located in Hauppauge, is one of those seven nonprofits they oversee. This organization was created to offer families and professionals an agency to call to help medically frail children and their families. Angela’s House has helped to simplify home care options for families by coordinating the extensive array of services needed to support medically frail children at home. “We have worked very hard to create new programs and opportunities for medically frail children,” said founder Bob Policastro, who opened the first home in East Moriches in 2000, and named after his daughter, who suffered severe brain damage during birth. “Over the years we’ve received tremendous support from Assemblyman Harvey Weisenberg, and have worked in collaboration with IGHL, Independent Group Home Living, to provide these services. We now operate more than 50 homes, multiple day programs and many other supportive programs for individual with intellectual disabilities.” Another affiliate of the Kinexion network is East End Disability Associates (EEDA) in Riverhead, which also provides support and services for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This organization formed in 1992 by a small group of parents who were active advocates for their children and believed that everyone has the right to

fully participate in quality education, medical, habilitation and recreational services for more than 750 people. Rounding out the seven affiliates of Kinexion is Maryhaven, whose vision is to foster a community whereby people with special needs are safe, accepted and supported. This nonprofit offers a full range of services, including residential, day habilitation and vocational training to promote independence, individuality, integration and social connections. “Our 29 Community Residential homes offer a warm and secure environment where people with special needs can live comfortably,” said Charles Vanek, III, Executive Director of Maryhaven. “Additionally, our Day Habilitation program and our Integrated Business Center provide the platform to attain personal growth and the highest quality of life by teaching daily living skills and offering them community integration opportunities as well as an environment whereby individuals with disabilities work alongside non-disabled workers.” If you would like to learn more about Kinexion or any of the seven non-profits they oversee, please visit www.kinexion. org.

Hampton Classic Horse Show To Host FEI CSI 5* And 2* Competitions

The Hampton Classic Horse Show, one of the country’s most prestigious hunter-jumper horse shows, will unveil new state-of-the-art all-weather footing in its Grand Prix Ring and a new schedule with FEI CSI 5* and 2* competitions when it returns for its 46th edition, August 28-September 4. The new CSI 5* status means an increase in prize money to more than $1 million, with $410,000 for the Classic’s featured Hampton Classic Grand Prix on Sunday, September 4. New allweather footing in the Grand Prix Ring will allow for an expanded schedule featuring the 5* and 2* as well as some new divisions. “We are truly excited about hosting a CSI 5* and having the opportunity to expand our schedule,” said Shanette Barth Cohen, the Classic’s Executive Director. “Our new all-weather footing enables us to hold more classes in the Grand Prix Ring and our move to 5* status is sure to attract the best horses and riders from all across the country and beyond.” The Hampton Classic will host a

live discussion on Clubhouse to discuss the new schedule and footing on Thursday, March 10 at 6:00 p.m. All are invited to participate. The footing is being installed by Travis Gould and his JTWG, Inc. It is engineered using the same stateof-the-art processes that were used for the new footing in the International Arena at the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center in Wellington, Florida and Tryon Stadium in Tryon, North Carolina, both of which have received rave reviews. The laboratory design and modeling of the footing for those “Ultra-Competition” arenas was done by Bill Hawe, CEO of iEquiTek, LLC, who is overseeing the project for the Hampton Classic. The stateof-the-art processes being employed for the Hampton Classic by this team will also be used for the 2023 Longines FEI Jumping World CupTM Finals in Omaha. “I think this is fantastic news,” said seven-time Hampton Classic Grand Prix champion McLain Ward. “The Hampton Classic has always been one of our sport’s premier events, equal

to any Five Star. Now with official Five Star status plus its new footing that has proven at Wellington to be as good as there is, the Hampton Classic will solidify its position as one of the most outstanding events in the world.” Ultra-Competition arenas are an example of the most extremely fine-tuned riding surfaces. Utilizing lab measurements, coupled with comparisons in the iEquiTek database, formulae are developed to improve certain aspects of the peak performance. The speeds and heights of CSI 5* competitions in general make for a narrow aperture of

what is acceptable, even in the best of conditions. CSI 5* competitions may be held in the rain, yet still demand 5* levels of performance. Bill Hawe, from iEquiTek said, “The Hampton Classic is to be commended for its all-in commitment to advancing the state-of-the-art for performance, safety and horse welfare. This helps change the sport for the better. We are very excited to partner with the Hampton Classic on this project.” The Grand Prix Ring is the centerpiece of the Classic’s six show rings. Longines is the Official Timekeeper for the Hampton

Classic which will also be adding new divisions such as Low Adult and Children’s Jumpers, Low Adult and Children’s Hunters and 3’6” High Performance Hunters.
