North Shore Animal League America’s Adoption Center is currently conducting adoption by appointment only. Our Adoption Team is contacting pre-approved adopters with a scheduled day and time to complete their adoption. The health and wellbeing of NSALA staff, volunteers, adopters, and the community remains our priority at this time. We currently have over 40 dogs of various ages and sizes on campus, as well as more than 100 felines, from kittens to older cats, all looking for loving homes. As always, the animals on the NSALA Port Washington campus are being well-cared for by our devoted staff. Massapequa Takes Action Coalition recognizes how COVID-19 presents challenges for Massapequas’ youth and families. To assist Massapequa families in the prevention of youth substance misuse, MTAC has launched a new website with updated resources to prevent underage drinking, marijuana misuse and prescription drug prevention. MTAC’s website includes its new underage drinking prevention campaign, Alcohol & Teens Don’t Mix: Be Their Guide. Don’t Provide. The campaign addresses how alcohol

affects our children’s brain, health and safety. Important legal information is also provided regarding Nassau County’s Social Host Law as well as other laws affecting our youth and community – including drunk driving as 10% of Massapequa youth report driving after drinking alcohol (2018 NYS OASAS YDS PFS Survey). Since 1997, Massapequa Takes Action Coalition (MTAC) has been Massapequas’ community coalition to prevent substance misuse among youth. MTAC has been recognized as one of our nation’s leaders in

Telehealth Is Available Through Metro Physical & Aquatic Therapy

Telehealth is a new resource available through Metro Physical & Aquatic Therapy for anyone that needs therapy and wishes to receive the treatment in the comfort and safety of their own home. Telehealth offers a web based therapy session that is done via a webcam. Phones, tablets, or computers can be used. The sessions are private and the only people that have access to the video call are the patient and the treating

therapist. Telehealth is available for any body part or condition, and is covered by insurance. While we navigate the challenges COVID-19 presents, under most insurances Metro Physical Therapy is able to waive any copayment associated with the treatment. This means sessions are available at no out of pocket cost to the patient in most cases. In the event a copayment can not be waived, a second

session in the same week is being offered for free. This allows a patient to be treated 2x per week for the cost of 1 session. Equipment is available to be dropped off upon therapists discretion, allowing patients to complete meaningful exercises to help progress them further. Dear Fellow Members, Well, this is certainly an unprecedented time for us all. We have been confronted with something that none of us, from experts to laymen, can fully understand.
