Contractors For Kids (CFK) is a non-profit organization, which was founded for the purpose of providing assistance to families in Long Island communities. Their goal is to assist children and their families overcome obstacles that have unfortunately changed or have impacted their lives through the sickness, injury or death of a child. They are committed to this cause and want to give hope and reassurance for the futures of Long Islanders. CFK was founded in 2005 by Kevin Harney and Alan Nahmias of Stalco Construction. Kevin and Alan, both long-time philanthropists, saw the growing need for financial assistance in our communities and knew that something more needed to be done. Through random acts of kindness, they were slowly changing the lives of others, however they thirsted to make more change so they decided to form this non-profit, Contractors For Kids. The Board of Directors, members, supporters and volunteers of CFK are all “Contractors For Kids.” They are all helping others and building futures for children and their families in need. Their organization runs on donations only and is volunteer based, they have no employees. One family at a time, they make sure that the financial hardship brought on by sickness, injury or death does not destroy an already hurting family. Whether it is to pay a phone bill or a mortgage payment, they want to be there to help. So how do you qualify to get help? It’s quite simple. If you can prove that you are struggling financially because of the sickness, injury or death of a child, you live on Long Island (in Nassau or Suffolk County), and you have filled out their Application For Assistance, they will get in touch with you to see how they can be of help! Contractors For Kids is local to the core. They know our Island well and they love to help locals. Their office is
located in Holbrook and they have no plans of going anywhere. The pandemic took its toll on CFK, as it did on many, but they stayed afloat and are thankful for the opportunity to continue to make a difference. Since 2005, CFK has given out more than 3 MILLION DOLLARS to help local Long Islanders. Here are some of the areas they’ve helped others financially: Rent, Mortgage Payments, Oil Deliveries, Utility Bills, Food, Transportation To & From Hospitals, Co-Payments, Medications & Funeral Expenses. Donations are so important to CFK, especially being that they receive no grant money. They would like to thank all thsoe who attended their Scavenger Hunt fundraising event on April 10th. Their next fundraising event will be a golf outing on June 14th, stay tuned for more information! If you feel driven to give to CFK, you can make a general donation today on their website; www.contractorsforkids.org. Want to help make a difference? You can do so by learning their mission, spreading awareness, referring families to CFK, distributing handouts/electronic materials and representing CFK at health fairs, open enrollment or employee meetings. East Lake Students Rock Their Socks For Down Syndrome Awareness
Socks with colorful stripes, cartoon characters and pictures of food adorned the feet of students at East Lake Elementary School in the Massapequa School District on March 22 to mark World Down Syndrome Day. Mismatched socks and custom designed Massapequa Rock Your Socks footwear were also
popular choices. The annual Rock Your Socks day, coordinated by the school and Massapequa SEPTA, is an annual event to raise awareness about Down Syndrome. World Down Syndrome Day is observed on the 21st day of the third month because it signifies the uniqueness of the triplication of the 21st chromosome which causes
Down Syndrome. With March 21 a Sunday, East Lake students and staff donned their funky socks at school the following day. Students also contributed to a Rock Your Socks quilt near the main lobby. They decorated paper quilt squares which were put together into a colorful display to show their support for the cause.

In partnership with Hudl and in its second year, the NFL WAY TO PLAY HIGH SCHOOL AWARD will honor one high school football player weekly for demonstrating exceptional in-game playing technique. SAL CIRISANO of PLAINEDGE HIGH SCHOOL is the Week 22 recipient of the 2020 NFL Way to Play High School Award. Understanding that some states have moved their youth and high school programs to the spring, the 2020 NFL Way to Play High School Award was extended
an additional 17 weeks, running through June 12, 2021. “These tremendous young student athletes who are recognized with the Way to Play Award clearly demonstrate proper form and technique that reduces unnecessary risk and improves the athlete’s quality of play,” said TROY VINCENT, NFL Executive Vice President of Football Operations. East Lake Students Are Masters Of Disguise There was a bug invasion in a fourth grade classroom at East Lake Elementary School in the Massapequa School District, but the paper critters were a little hard to spot as it was part of a lesson on camouflage. During a science lesson in Theresa LiCausi’s class, students learned how animals hide, and they focused on the ways bugs
are able to blend in with their surroundings. Each student was tasked with making a paper insect and giving it a design so it could blend into a surface in the classroom. Before school one day, Ms. LiCausi hid their creatures around the room and when students arrived, they went on a bug hunt, trying to find as many as they could.
Tips for Enjoying a Drive-In Movie Experience
The bugs were “hidden in plain sight,” Ms. LiCausi said, but many were hard to find because the students did such a good job camouflaging them. She awarded a prize to the student who found the most bugs, and the student whose bug couldn’t be found at all.

However, what was once a relic of the past has now become an innovation in entertainment, the drivein movie theater. The drive-in movie theater is nearly as old as the automobile itself. While today, there are about 300 drive-in theaters across the country, many more are popping up wherever there is space. Indeed, Walmart recently announced more than 160 of its parking lots will be converted into drive-in movie theaters around the country and many small businesses are doing the same. “A drive-in movie is the ideal event for anyone with a car because they can get out for a drive to enjoy a common experience with friends and family while taking appropriate social distancing precautions,” says Rah Mahtani, marketing communications manager
for MINI USA. To shed light on this rediscovered institution of cinema, MINI USA created a guide for drivers to help them make the most of the experience. Here are five of their top tips: 1. Arrive early. Many theaters allow guests to arrive up to an hour before the show begins. Take advantage of this time to pick the best parking spot and stretch your legs. If the snack bar is open, grab a treat! 2. Bring the right car. A MINI Convertible is ideal for an open air viewing experience under the stars, while the MINI Countryman has room for the whole family. 3. Bring snacks. If your drive-in allows it, bring your favorite movie-viewing snacks like popcorn, soft pretzels, candy and soda. 4. Safely enjoy with friends. You can still safely go to the movies with your friends while staying socially distanced. Meet at a nearby location to rally to the drive-in in separate cars. If you’re a MINI owner, check with
your local MINI owner’s club about a drive-in movie rally. You can even bring two-way radios or set up a group chat on your phone for live commentary of the movie. 5. Pack strategically. Be sure to pack a blanket in case there’s an evening chill in the air. A small pillow can also help support your back through the movie. Bring a small trash bag, too for all of your wrappers, empty cups and popcorn buckets. And lastly, if your car doesn’t already have one, bring a phone charger. No drive-in theater near you? New York Blood Center Announces A Blood Emergency New York Blood Center (NYBC) announces a blood shortage in the region, one year after New York was the epicenter of the pandemic. Before COVID-19, donors could stop by community blood drives at convenient locations like high schools, colleges, and offices. It has been one
year since these groups had to cancel their blood drives due to COVID-19 and few have been able to resume these lifesaving events. NYBC currently has a 4 day supply of blood, which is well below what is needed by area hospitals. New York’s healthcare system requires 1,500
donations each day to treat patients ranging from trauma victims to newborn babies and their mothers to cancer patients. Donors with type O and type B blood are especially needed as NYBC currently has a 1-2 day supply of these blood types. “With thousands of New Yorkers getting
vaccinated each day, we are thrilled to watch our state recover from this catastrophic year,” said Andrea Cefarelli, Senior Executive Director at New York Blood Center. “As New York bounces back in strides this spring, we need everyone to make an appointment and donate blood to help save lives. While the
end of the pandemic is near, our struggle to fight for those in need continues.” We are taking extra precautions to help prevent the personto-person spread of COVID-19. As always, people are not eligible to donate if they’re experiencing a cold, sore throat, respiratory

Ride. 2021 Goes Online Helen Keller Services (HKS), a 501 (C)(3) nonprofit offering programs and services through its two divisions: Helen Keller National Center for Deaf-Blind Youths and Adults (HKNC) and Helen Keller Services for the Blind (HKSB), today announced it will host its Second Annual Helen’s 5K Run. Walk. Ride. Virtual Fundraiser online from April 24 to May 9, 2021. Participants can register to run/walk/ ride, and/or assist with
fundraising by creating their own personal Individual or Team Helen’s Run.Walk.Ride. Fundraising page at https://events.elitefeats. com/hks21. “While we cannot be together in person this year, we invite you to join us virtually to be a part of this year’s fundraising campaign,” said Sue Ruzenski, CEO of HKS. “Whether it is indoors or outside in the fresh air while running, walking or riding the 5K,
there are many ways to participate, support and stay connected.” Last year was the first year HKS could not have an in-person event in over 30 years. Nonetheless, the event was a big success, which included participants from Maine to Hawaii. This year the event seeks to raise $30,000 and to reach an even broader audience. Ride. seeks to Break Down Barriers to Independence, Build a More Inclusive Society and Bring Inner Capability Out. participants update their time on the website for credit.
