Councilman Terence McSweeney, DuWayne Gregory, and the town board recently organized a toy drive for the US Marine Corps' Toys for Tots program. This initiative aims to bring joy and hope to underprivileged children during the Christmas season. The Marine Toys for Tots Foundation works alongside the U.S. Marine Corps to provide tangible signs of hope to economically disadvantaged children. Councilmen McSweeney and Gregory expressed their deep appreciation for the overwhelming support received from the community and town employees. McSweeney also mentioned the generosity of his neighbors and friends who contributed new toys and clothes, making this year's charity drive a tremendous success.

Larry Gardner, A Resident Of North Babylon, Has Been Ringing The Kettlebell For 39 Years

The Salvation Army bells ringing during the Christmas season are a powerful symbol that reminds people about the importance of giving. The Red Kettle Campaign, initiated by the Salvation

Army, has become incredibly popular as a community fundraiser nationwide. Larry Gardner, a resident of North Babylon, has been ringing the kettlebell for 39 years. Larry’s involvement with

the Salvation Army began when he was a newly sober 22-year-old, seeking to make amends to those he had wronged during his years of alcoholism. His sponsor suggested that he ring the bell

for the Salvation Army and sponsor a child in Ethiopia with a monthly donation of $20. Over 39 years, Larry has raised over $200,000, making a significant impact on the lives of many others.

Councilman McSweeney recognizes Larry Gardner’s contribution in enabling numerous individuals to make small donations, emphasizing the collective impact of everyone’s involvement.

Supervisor Schaffer expresses pride in Larry’s 39-year commitment and looks forward to celebrating his 40th year of service, highlighting Larry Gardner’s character through this small gesture.

Technology Ties Into Holiday Creations Students at William E. DeLuca Elementary School in the North Babylon School District showed off their digital technology

skills during their library media classes in December. Centered around many of the different holiday activities this month, the

kindergarten and first grade students created their own special snow globe using the book “The Snow Globe Family”

by Jane O’Connor. After learning about the history of the ugly holiday sweater, second graders used Seesaw to create their own

ugly holiday sweater. Third grade students used Canva to create animated snowmen based on “Frosty the Snowman.”

The fourth and fifth graders also used Canva to create themselves trapped inside a snow globe.

Rating Represents Sixth Consecutive Year Of Top-Level Creditworthiness

Moody’s Investors Services has announced that it has assigned a Aaa rating to the Town of Babylon’s $14 million Public Improvement Serial Bonds, the highest rating it can provide to a municipality. Moody’s also indicated that the Town has maintained its Aaa credit rating for the sixth consecutive year. The service cited the Town’s dedication to conservative budgeting, strong operational oversight and ample reserves and liquidity to be the chief

benefits to its credit profile, all of which are due to the diligence of Town leadership. “Once again, the Town of Babylon’s policies have received high praise from Moody’s, growing our reputation as one of the most fiscally sound townships in the region,” said Babylon Town Supervisor Rich Schaffer. “I am proud to serve on a Town Board that continues to address our financial issues head on and solve them with solutions that make the most sense for

Open Through December 30th 2023 Magic Of Lights At Jones Beach Long Island’s Favorite Holiday Tradition

The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation and Live Nation Inc. are pleased to invite park visitors to enjoy the Magic of Lights Spectacular within Jones Beach State Park. This amazing display of over 1M lights, runs at dusk (approximately 5PM) now through December 30th. Tickets can be purchased online or at the entrance. Through responsible budgeting and aggressive debt retirement, we have put the Town on solid economic footing.” Moody’s noted that the Town’s economy is strong and expanding, pointing specifically to the growth of the hamlet of Wyandanch, and that the Town has maintained manageable leverage and adjusted fixed costs. On a broad scale, the Town’s strong economic base and resident income, as well as conservative budget, proved to be the key strengths contributing to its high level of creditworthiness. Moody’s anticipates that the Town’s reserves will remain stable and strong, and that leverage will continue to be manageable. The Town was awarded its first Aaa rating in 2017, a true accomplishment considering that its rating was considered just above junk-bond status less than two decades prior. Through careful planning and dedicated leadership, the Town was able to not only climb out of its financial hole, but also to uphold its excellence for several years afterwards. Town officials are dedicated to ensuring that the community’s finances maintain their stability and that its economy continues to excel.

A Discussion About Government Leaders And Their Roles Within The Community Town of Babylon Councilman Terence McSweeney, Suffolk County Legislator Tom Donnelly, (D-Deer Park), and a representative from Assemblywoman JeanPierre’s office recently held a meeting with North Babylon Cub Scout Pack 112, to engage in a discussion about government leaders and their

roles within the community. The topics covered included understanding and describing the rights and responsibilities of citizens, as well as exploring the concept of loyalty to one’s country. Additionally, the meeting delved into the significance of the “rule of law” and its application in everyday life. Furthermore,

the participants addressed various important issues that our communities are currently facing. Notably, McSweeney and Donnelly, who are both FDNY and volunteer firemen, actively participated in the meeting by assisting the troop in practicing their knot-tying skills, which is a requirement for their badge.
