They say people have become increasingly thoughtless in the age of technology, opting to do most of their shopping online and “mail it in” when it comes to selecting the perfect present. I, for one, still prefer to personally browse the stores, even if I have a fairly good idea of what I want to buy. Nothing quite compares to that personal touch. So why have I barely begun this process with less than a week remaining ‘til Christmas? An excellent question, deflected by a focus on de-twinkling my flickering window lights, decorating my balcony just in time for the annual cleaning-of-thegutters to completely cover everything in a fine black

layer of dirt and ground-up leaves, and contemplating how to shove all things not Christmas-related into any available corner of the closet. Gift shopping, or even listmaking, not so much. And yet somehow, some way, everything manages to get done each year… even if, at times, it has included wrapping presents in the corner of my bedroom as company arrives on Christmas Eve. No need for ribbons and bows, as long as the box is (relatively) covered and the right person winds up with the appropriate package. In everything, it’s the thought that counts. With that, sending thoughts to all of our readers for a healthy, happy holiday season. Here’s hoping you all receive everything on your wish list.

Just five days until Christmas, and I suppose I should begin my shopping soon. It’s funny, with the sole exception of Black Friday when I purchased precisely one gift - I haven’t done so much as compile a list in the days that have elapsed. Perhaps it’s because, save for the usual collection of gift cards and standard annual favorites, there is rarely an occasion when anyone can offer a suggestion of what they would like. Not that I am much better when it comes to this. Most years, a gift card is just as good as any particular object I can come up with, or maybe tickets to an upcoming concert or ballgame. Of course, there are always my two standbys - a trip to Disney World to “meet Mickey,” and a puppy. Yes, the 3 year-old child in me hasn’t quite grown

On Saturday, December 2nd, Supervisor Rich Schaffer renamed August Road in North Babylon “Vinny Sciacca Way.” Many dignitaries from the North Babylon School Board joined Supervisor Schaffer as well as Deputy Supervisor Tony Martinez, Councilman Tom Donnelly, Councilwoman Jackie Gordon, Tax Receiver Corinne DiSomma, Special Assistant Terry

McSweeney, Assemblyman Andrew Raia and Ed Wiggins from Senator Phil Boyles’s Office. Residents, friends and family also gathered to pay tribute to Vinny for his numerous years of devoted service to the North Babylon community and our country. Local scouts, civic and chamber members joined the ceremony to honor Vinny, President of the Sunset City

Civic Association, former President of the North Babylon School Board, a dedicated appointed Town of Babylon Beautification Ambassador and a Bronze Medal Award recipient for his admirable service in the Vietnam War. Proud wife Joanne, his children and grandchildren joined the crowd of over 50 people congratulating Vinny on this outstanding accolade.
