The Babylon JuniorSenior High School Girls varsity soccer team made history by reaching the state finals during the fall 2023 season. This special achievement came after the Panthers defeated Saranac in the Class B Southeast Regional Semifinals on Saturday, November 11 at Cortland High School upstate.
This season, the team referred to itself as “The Energy Bus,” in reference to the book of the same name by Jon Gordon, about teambuilding and overcoming great odds. “Most of the seniors, it’s what we’ve been wanting this entire time,” senior Brook O’Halloran told Newsday on reaching the state finals. “We’re called
‘The Energy Bus,’ which is a book we read at the beginning of the season. So, that’s kind of what’s been pushing us and our energy.” Although the Panthers, with a season record of 11-6-3, did not achieve the state title after falling to Haverling in the final game on Sunday, November 12, the players were proud of
their historic season, as well as being the best Class B soccer team on Long Island this fall. “I’ve always had this determination and ambition to do better, but I couldn’t do it without any of those girls,” Senior Captain Sophia Conti told the news outlet. “This team is unique in that every single game, we were the
underdogs. And we showed up and always wanted it more. That’s why we were so successful.” Upon the team’s return to Babylon, the players were treated to a hero’s welcome. “After an intensely competitive fall season, these girls deserve to be recognized for their unprecedented accomplishment,” said
Superintendent of Schools Carisa Manza. “Congratulations to our Panthers for making Babylon history, and we look forward to seeing how the team’s younger players will take this experience forward and push their team to even further heights.”
Town Of Babylon Cares Coalition Combats Drunk Driving In light of alarming increases of driving while intoxicated (DWI) arrests in New York during the Thanksgiving period— November 23 to 28—the Town of Babylon Cares
Coalition launched the It’s Worth the Wait campaign to promote responsible behaviors and discourage impaired driving, enhancing the safety of Long Island
communities and families. At an awareness event highlighting this campaign as the holiday season approaches, the Town of Babylon Cares Coalition announced free
prevention initiatives it will offer to further this crucial mission of responsible alcohol consumption and road safety. In addition, the Town of Babylon Cares
Coalition continued its educational efforts with businesses and the public, which have included dialogue opportunities and print and digital advertising urging

Outdoor Science Lessons For North Babylon Students
OUTDOOR SCIENCE LESSONS FOR NORTH BABYLON STUDENTS - North Babylon High School’s Advanced Placement environmental science class recently took a field trip to the Quogue Wildlife Refuge. The students started the day at the wildlife rehab facility with species such as barred owls and peregrine falcon. The class hiked through the pine barrens and observed the various plants trees (conifers) and scrub oak. The students saw firsthand examples of secondary succession and how fire plays a role in the ecosystem. They performed several tests – including soil profiling and weather observations – as well as observing biodiversity. Students ended the day at the nature center, where they viewed extensive mounted specimens of plants and wildlife native to the area. Photos courtesy of North Babylon School District

Suffolk County Legislator Tom Donnelly (D-Deer Park) recently wrapped up his successful “Legislator at Your Library” 2023 Community Outreach Program with a session at the North Babylon Public Library. The free event, held on Monday, November 6 provided community
Drumming and Fitness. The festival promotes collaboration with students from other school districts across Suffolk County. members with an opportunity to directly speak with Legislator Donnelly to share their suggestions and voice their concerns. They were also able to receive Suffolk County Senior Bus Identification Discount Cards and get documents notarized free of charge by one of Legislator Donnelly’s aides. The Suffolk County
Sheriff’s Office joined Legislator Donnelly and provided both Suffolk County Medical Photo IDs and a “Shed the Meds” Safe Medication Safe Disposal Box. “It’s vitally important our residents have personal, direct access to their representatives in government and be given
the opportunity to learn about all of the important programs available to them, from all levels of government,” said Legislator Donnelly. “I thank the North Babylon Public Library and Director Marc Horowitz for being such gracious hosts, the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office for joining me and everyone who came out.”
