A dedicated sleep center for adults is located on the campus of Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip. infants need 12 to 16 hours of sleep, school-age pre-teens need between 9 to 11 hours of sleep while teenagers need between 8 and 10 hours of sleep. Diagnosis of childhood sleep issues is done through a consultation with a Pediatric Center Sleep specialist and then an overnight stay for testing in one of the sleep center rooms. Parents stay with their child. No invasive equipment is used and the testing involves measuring breathing, brainwaves and limb movement. The most common treatment for obstructive sleep disorders in younger children are removal of tonsils and adenoids to open the airway. If other comorbidities are involved, modes of therapy could include nightly treatment with a CPAP machine. “Most people only think of adults when discussing sleep services, but children should not be snoring on a nightly basis,” said CHS’s Director of Sleep Services Brendan Duffy, RPSGT. “Our Pediatric Sleep Center is available to Long Island families to allow our children to get the treatment they need.” For more information on the Good Samaritan Pediatric Sleep Center or to make an appointment call (631) 321-2100. Pa l - O - M i n e Equestrian is a comprehensive therapeutic equine program that uses horses to facilitate growth, learning and healing for individuals with disabilities and for other vulnerable populations that was founded by Lisa Gatti. Located at 829 Old Nichols Road in Islandia, Pal-O-Mine grew from having two programs, eight horses and 80 students per week to 11 programs, 25 horses and 400 students per week. This organization sits on eight acres, with a 20-stall barn, handicapped accessible bathrooms, a new 100’ x 120’ indoor arena with stateof-the-art footing and a rider hoisting system, and three outdoor riding arenas. Individuals of all ages are welcome to take part in the programs they offer. They operate with five full-time employees, 35 independent contractors and 80 volunteers a week. Their riding instructors have experience with the following diagnoses: Autism Spectrum Disorders, Anxiety Disorders, Sensory Processing Disorder, Attention Deficit Disorder, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Neurological Disorders, Cerebral Palsy, Traumatic Brain Injury, Multiple Sclerosis, Down Syndrome, Spina Bifida, Genetic Disorders and Emotional Disturbances.They also offer group programs, individual lessons, corporate workshops and a program specifically designed for military members. Pal-O-Mine wants you to know just how they can help those who have served in our military, along with those who are still serving our nation. For more than four thousand years, horses have been an integral part of warfare. Today, horses are still playing an important role in war, this time in the recovery of military veterans who have suffered emotional and/ or physical injuries. Pal-O-Mine Equestrian is an EAGALA Designed Military Program.This designation asserts that EAGALA Certified Professionals working with the military have specialized training and experience in the military community. Sessions at the farm are action, not talk and they offer individual, group and family sessions. Pal-O-Mine offers programs to Verterans from Vietnam, Gulf War, Iraq and Afghanistan and for Service men and women who fought in Operation Iraqi Freedom,

Operation New Dawn, Operation Enduring Freedom and for Active Duty Service Members. It’s not always easy to ask for help, but the benefits of doing so outweigh the fear. One military member who received help from this organizaiton mentioned the following, “For someone in the military like me, it’s hard to swallow my pride and ask for help. This was a safe environment to open up in. The Andrew McMorris Memorial Walkathon Rescheduled The Andrew McMorris Memorial Walkathon will be held on Friday, November 27th after being cancelled due to the initial outbreak of the Corona Virus. The scenic trail walk will be through the beautiful and picturesque Baiting Hollow Scout Camp located at 1774 Sound Avenue, Calverton, NY and will include a tour of

the beautiful McMorris Lodge being built at the Camp. Registrations and sponsorship information is available at: https:// www.sccbsa.org/ walk2020. The McMorris Family, along with the Suffolk County Council of the Boy Scouts of America are hosting this Walkathon to raise the funds needed to complete the McMorris

Lodge, which is under construction at Baiting Hollow Scout Camp in memory of Andrew Mc Morris. Andrew is the Boy Scout, who was killed by a drunk driver, while hiking the Greenbelt Trail with his Boy Scout Troop 161 in September 2018. Several other Scouts were severely injured as a result of this tragic crash. The lives

of his family, friends, community and fellow scouters were forever changed by Andrew’s loss. All walkers will enjoy a complementary grab and go lunch at the conclusion of the Walkathon which is being donated by Applebee’s. North Fork Trolley will be providing complementary shuttle service for all participants to and from

the parking area for the event.
