Students Design LEGO Self-Portraits North Babylon fifth graders at Parliament Place recently discussed what it would be like to work as a designer at The LEGO Group. Students were challenged to be as creative as possible while still adhering to the LEGO figurine template.

Using colored pencils, crayons and markers, they transformed LEGO silhouettes into selfportraits by adding unique features, including hair, personalized outfits and accessories. Students also added backgrounds to their drawings to enhance their

self-portraits and bring them to life. Art teacher Christina Kampson was thoroughly impressed by the students’ creativity and imagination. “Great work by all our fifth graders,” she said.

FLAMINGO FLOCKING EVENT -The Babylon Breast Cancer Coalition is honored to be the recipient of a $5,000 donation from the West Babylon Varsity Cheerleaders. The West Babylon Varsity Cheerleaders held a 5-week Flamingo Flocking event to benefit the Babylon Breast Cancer Coalition, in memory of Shannon Saturno, a 32 year old teacher from West Babylon who lost her life to Triple Negative Breast Cancer in 2016. 24 cheerleaders worked 7 days a week to move and set up the Flamingo Flocks, the team even had t-shirts made up for the event! This very successful fundraiser was supported by residents of the West Babylon community. The Babylon Breast Cancer Coalition provides support and services to residents of the Township of Babylon who are undergoing active treatment for breast or gynecological cancer. While Orville and Wilbur Wright, otherwise known as the Wright Brothers, may be the most widely recognized brothers associated with aeronautics, a pair of French brothers’ accomplishments in the 18th century should not be overlooked. According to Brittanica.com, in 1782, nearly a century before the Wright Brothers were even born, Joseph and Étienne Montgolfier discovered that heated air, when collected inside a large lightweight paper or fabric bag, caused the bag to rise into the air. Various successful experiments preceded the Montgolfiers’ flight on November 21, 1783. That flight, a 5.5 mile journey over Paris that lasted roughly 25 minutes, was the first manned untethered flight in history, firmly establishing the Montgolfier brothers as true pioneers in the field of aeronautics.

Pal-O-Mine Equestrian www.pal-o-mine.org

Pa l - O - M i n e Equestrian is a comprehensive therapeutic equine program that uses horses to facilitate growth, learning and healing for individuals with disabilities and for other vulnerable populations that was founded by Lisa Gatti. Located at 829 Old Nichols Road in Islandia, Pal-O-Mine grew from having two programs, eight horses and 80 students per week to 11 programs, 25 horses and 400 students per week. This organization sits on eight acres, with a 20-stall barn, handicapped accessible bathrooms, a new 100’ x 120’ indoor arena with stateof-the-art footing and a rider hoisting system, and three outdoor riding arenas. Individuals of all ages are welcome to take part in the programs they offer. They operate with five full-time employees, 35 independent contractors and 80 volunteers a week. Their riding instructors have experience with the following diagnoses: Autism Spectrum Disorders, Anxiety Disorders, Sensory Processing Disorder, Attention Deficit Disorder, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Neurological Disorders, Cerebral Palsy, Traumatic Brain Injury, Multiple Sclerosis, Down Syndrome, Spina Bifida, Genetic Disorders and Emotional Disturbances.They also offer group programs, individual lessons, corporate workshops and a program specifically designed for military members. In honor of Veteran’s Day, Pal-O-Mine wants you to know just how they can help those who have served in our military, along with those who are still serving our nation. For more than four thousand years, horses have been an integral part of warfare. Today, horses are still playing an important role in war, this time in the recovery of military veterans who have suffered emotional and/ or physical injuries. Pal-O-Mine Equestrian is an EAGALA Designed Military Program.This designation asserts that EAGALA Certified Professionals working with the military have specialized training and experience in the military community. Sessions at the farm are action, not talk and they offer individual, group and family sessions. Pal-O-Mine offers programs to Verterans from Vietnam, Gulf War, Iraq and Afghanistan and for Service men and women who fought in Operation Iraqi Freedom,

Operation New Dawn, Operation Enduring Freedom and for Active Duty Service Members. It’s not always easy to ask for help, but the benefits of doing so outweigh the fear. One military member who received help from this organizaiton mentioned the following, “For someone in the military like me, it’s hard to swallow my pride and ask for help. This was a safe environment to open up in. Senior Singer Named To All-State West Babylon Senior High School 12th grader Kathleen Gennings was selected to the New York State School Music Association’s All-State Festival in the mixed chorus (alto 1). Since last year’s festival was canceled

due to the pandemic, this year’s All-State musicians were selected based on the evaluation scores and comments from the spring 2019 NYSSMA assessment, along with detailed teacher recommendations. The 2020 NYSSMA All-
