The Bethpage Turkey Drive to benefit the Island Harvest Food Bank will take place on Friday, November 19, 2021, from 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM. The 13th annual food drive will include a no-contact donation car drive-through which will enable community residents to remain in their cars while volunteers remove donations from the vehicles. Long Islanders are asked to donate frozen turkeys, non-perishable food items or cash donations. These donations will go directly to Island Harvest Food Bank, which will help supply Thanksgiving meals to the more than 300,000 food-insecure Long Islanders through its distribution network of over 400 food pantries, soup kitchens, and other feeding programs on Long Island. Non-perishable food items needed include canned goods, cereal, pasta, rice, boxed juices, and shelf-stable milk (please, no glass containers). First Potato Olympics Held At Forest Avenue

From Oct. 1822, Forest Avenue Elementary School in the West Babylon School District held its first Potato Olympics. Each class choose a country to represent in the Olympics. Each student brought in their own potato Olympian to compete in the different events throughout the week. After the opening ceremonies on Monday, the potatoes competed in different events including high dive, gymnastics, spinning, luge and track and field. Following each event, gold, silver and bronze medals were awarded to the top-ranking participants in each class. On the final day, the students closed out the Olympics with a traditional parade.

Project 9 Line www.project9line.org

Project 9 Line is a non-proﬁt organization that was formed in 2014 by Patrick Donohue Their focus is to bridge the communication gap between veterans and civilians. Through outreach, communication and purpose, they enable veterans to express themselves uniquely through forms of art.

Patrick Donohue is a veteran himself and has an inspiring story of his own. He served in the Army on active duty from 2008 to 2012. He was deployed to Kandahar, Afghanistan from May of 2010 to April of 2011. Later, he reenlisted into the Army reserves, which he served in from 2014 to 2016.

Slowly but surely, things started to turn around for him. While he was in the VA hospital, he was exposed to some art and wellness programs that completely transformed the way he viewed himself. “I started writing poetry, meditating, and doing yoga and these activities had a profound impact on me.” He was looking to see if any veteran organization offered those programs and services outside of the VA and he didn’t find any, so at that time he decided that he would build it himself. Probably not even realizing how courageous and strong he really was, Patrick then wrote a business plan for what became this organization (Project 9 Line), so that he could bring art and wellness programs to other veterans on Long Island who might also be struggling. Little did he know that participating in those wellness programs and helping other veterans would become his calling and passion in life. In late 2020, Donohue was sworn in as an attorney and started his own law firm focused on veterans law, specifically VA disability and discharge upgrades. To this day he still runs that firm, and he also is an

I currently practice meditation, BJJ , yoga, play ice hockey, and I ﬂoat in a ﬂoat tank as often as I can. All of these practices are best for me as they bring me into the moment. I believe the best way to overcome trauma is to be in the moment as much as possible. In the past I have participated in many of Project 9 Line’s programs, including stand up comedy, which also helped me immensely on my journey.” Patrick still works on himself day to day, but knows that even if you face hard times, you can eventually get through them. (BACCA) to unveil and dedicate a new mural in the tunnel that runs under Ocean Parkway and connects Cedar Beach to Cedar Beach Marina. The nautical themed mural, designed by students from Amityville, Babylon, Deer Park, North Babylon and West Babylon High Schools, was facilitated by the Parks Department and BACCA through the “Babylon Together Project.”

Local artist Ron Becker, who serves on the BACCA Advisory Panel, played a key role in facilitating the participation of local high school students under the guidance of their teachers for this project. “Cedar Beach is beloved by our residents and this wonderful, Babylon-

inspired artwork makes it even more special. Thank you to the talented students who worked on this project,” said Deputy Supervisor and Parks Chairman Tony Martinez. “On behalf of BACCA, we are grateful for the opportunity to work with the Town of Babylon and artist Ron Becker to provide a wonderful opportunity to high school artists to showcase their talent in this collaborative effort. This mural has brought together students from across the community and will serve as a backdrop for all who enjoy Cedar Beach,” added BACCA Executive Director Liz Mirarchi. There are plans to complete a second mural on the other side of the
