But tires are one area of maintenance that often goes unchecked, even by the most diligent automobile owners. Tires undergo a lot of wear and tear, which only highlights the importance of proper tire maintenance. But many drivers do not give tires a passing thought until there is a problem, such as a flat or excessive wear. Also, some drivers think that all tires are the same, failing to realize that the kind of tires vehicles need depends on various factors. In addition to the size and type of vehicle, drivers should consider the type of driving they do and the driving conditions they routinely encounter before choosing tires for

No sooner has the last of the Halloween candy been given out to the neighborhood trick-ortreaters, than we are faced with the prospect of preparing for the next festive occasion on the calendar… Christmas, apparently. Year after year, the interval of time between the two seems to evaporate into a void of shopping, decorating, cooking and caroling, forgetting the small fact that there exists another holiday in between. I understand that, for some, Thanksgiving doesn’t have the same “fun” appeal to children and adults alike. There are no costumes, no Santa Claus, no presents to speak of… and yet, that is precisely what makes the day so uniquely special.

The entire point, in fact, is to be grateful for that which we have – family, friends, health, happiness – and not be caught up in the materialism that tends to overtake every other occasion. It’s not about the meal, or the football, or the Black Friday shopping deals that continue to creep into Thursday; it’s about the company you spend the day celebrating with. This is the case no matter the holiday, of course; but on Thanksgiving, we tend to step back and appreciate it just a bit more. Or we should. On Saturday, October 29th, Suffolk County Legislator Kevin McCaffrey attended the Eagle Scout Court of Honor ceremony for Troop 179’s Nicholas A Marcis. The ceremony took place at the Our Lady of Lourdes Church in West Islip and was attended by the new Eagle Scouts’ parents, friends, elected officials or their representatives and Troop 179’s leadership. On becoming an Eagle Scout, which is the highest rank in Scouting, Nicholas said that his project as well as his entire Scouting career was a journey he took not by himself, but with the support of his friends, family and Troop. Legislator McCaffrey also acknowledged the reliance an Eagle Scout must place on his support network to reach this outstanding

The North Babylon Academic Team, led by captain Haggai Anglade, Matthew Pecoraro, Noah Rothstein, and Richard Joyce, has achieved an impressive winning streak and is now nationally ranked. In September, the team placed third at the Smithtown West Invitational Tournament. On October 15th, it finished second at the Yale University Fall

Academic Tournament, and on October 29th, the team topped both of those achievements by placing first at the Rutgers University Scarlet Knights Invitational Tournament. This is the second year in a row North Babylon took first place at Rutgers. Anglade also distinguished himself once again by having the third highest points scored by an individual player at the Rutgers tournament.

This team has qualified for the HSNCT Nationals and PACE Nationals three times, and its next tournament will be a History Bowl at Seton Hall in New Jersey, where it will aim to qualify for the History Bowl Nationals. The district extends its congratulations to the team and adviser Erin Casserly, and wishes it continued success.
