On Friday, July 16th, Suffolk County Legislator Kevin McCaffrey congratulated Jack, of Troop 194, for his accomplishments in earning Scouting’s highest honor. Jack worked with the St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church Outreach Center to repair and distribute old bicycles to local children in need - a project which he will continue even after receiving his Eagle Scout award. They will serve hot dogs, chips and soda to all who attend and they truly hope that it will be an enjoyable time for both our donors and community members! They are still in need of participants! Rain date is September 25th. If you are interested in volunteering with HHRM, there is a new opportunity available! The organization is looking for volunteers to help at the mission with their distributions on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Tasks include sorting, folding, hanging on racks, rolling racks in and out of the building, helping with pantry bags on occasion and being available to help people find items for their families. Bilingual is bonus but not necessary please contact Kimberly at kimberlygambino@ hhrm.org for more information. St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital has been closely monitoring the COVID-19 positivity rates, hospitalizations and projected trends for this September across the country to evaluate the safety of hosting an in-person event this September. We are fully committed to the safety and well-being of our pediatric cancer patient families, volunteers, participants, community and staff. We have made the difficult decision to transition the St. Jude Walk/Run - Long Island, NY to a virtual only event. This decision is not one that we make lightly however as a children’s hospital, we have a responsibility to prioritize the care of some of our community’s most vulnerable — children. North Babylon Union Free School District welcomed students back with open arms, as it kicked off the 2021-2022 school year on Sept. 1. Staff greeted students
with excitement, upon entering their respective buildings. Once in their classrooms, students were introduced to their new learning environments and participated in ice-
breaking exercises with other classmates. The district looks forward to a safe and productive new year.

WARM WELCOMES IN WEST BABYLON - The sun was shining and West Babylon School District’s students were excited to start the new school year on Sept. 2. With backpacks filled, students entered their buildings with teachers and administrators on hand to welcome and guide them. The kindergarten students were accompanied off their buses and met by staff to explore their new teachers and classrooms. Sixth and ninth grade students were also welcomed into their new buildings and had the WILLIAM E. DELUCA ELEMENTARY SCHOOL - William E. DeLuca Elementary chance to get acquainted with their teachers and classmates. As the day came to a close, the students were excited for what lies ahead for the 2021-2022 school year. Hold On To That Balloon! PSEG Long Island cautions that metallic balloons can be hazardous

If they get loose and come into contact with a power line or other electrical equipment, that could lead to power outages, fire and, possibly, injuries.” To mitigate these risks, PSEG Long Island encourages the public to follow these safety guidelines: • Metallic balloons and other decorations should be kept clear of overhead power lines and equipment, and never purposely released into the air. • All balloons with helium should be secured to weights that prevent them from floating away. • To properly dispose of a Mylar balloon, safely puncture it in several places to release the helium, and discard it in the trash. • NEVER touch a power line. Do not attempt to retrieve a balloon, toy or anything caught in an overhead power line. Babylon Town Hall Park Bench Dedicated to SCPD Detective Who Died From 9/11 Related Cancer
It was a gorgeous September afternoon as Town of Babylon Supervisor Rich Schaffer, Deputy Supervisor Tony Martinez and Councilmen Terence McSweeney and DuWayne Gregory recently joined with the Suffolk County Police Department’s First Precinct Brotherhood to host a bench dedication at Babylon Town Hall Park in honor of Suffolk County Police Detective Stephen Mullen. New York State Senator Phil Boyle, TJ Hatter of New York State Attorney General Letitia James Office, Suffolk County Acting Police Commissioner Stuart Cameron, Commanding Officer of the First Precinct Inspector Kevin Kane, Suffolk County District Attorney Tim Sini, and Suffolk County Legislators Tom Donnelly, Susan Berland and Jason
Richberg, along with Guy Calla of Legislator Kevin McCaffrey’s Office also joined Detective Mullen’s wife Patricia, son Patrick, other family members, officers from the Suffolk County Police Department and dozens of guests at the ceremony. Detective Stephen Mullen was a devoted husband, loving father, and a decorated 26year veteran of the Suffolk County Police Department, spending much of his career serving the residents of the departments first precinct. Prior to joining the Suffolk County Police Department, he was an officer with the NYPD in Brooklyn. He passed away at the age of 55 in December of 2018 from cancer related to his heroic efforts responding to the World Trade Center following the attacks of September 11, 2001.
“After 9/11 happened, Steven volunteered to go into the city, even though he told me he was being sent into the city because he had experience there. He never wanted me to worry about him,” said wife Patricia Mullen in her remarks at the ceremony. “If Stephen were still here today, I believe he would still be working… he loved working. He enjoyed mentoring the younger officers,” she added. Councilman Terence McSweeney spearheaded the effort to get bench dedicated in honor of Detective Mullen saying, “the Town of Babylon is honored to share this bench with the Mullen family because of the respect that we have for our police officers, fire, EMS and all first responders not only in the Town of Babylon, but around the country.”
