Babylon School District recently received a generous donation of more than 1,700 books, courtesy of the American Federation of Teachers’ First Book project. This was all made possible due to the combined efforts of the districts’ teachers, staff and members of the Babylon Board of Education, whose “Reading Across Our Community” program jump-started the donation. This program aims to supply children with the books necessary to help them continue down a path leading toward a bright future. After every child within grades K-6 received a new book, Babylon Elementary School teacher Jennifer Brooks, in association with Babylon Teachers’ Association, distributed the remaining books within the area. This included families in need, local preschools and the Babylon Public Library.

Town of Babylon Supervisor Rich Schaffer recently joined with Town Deputy Supervisor Tony Martinez and Town Councilman Tom Donnelly at an Eagle Scout Court of Honor ceremony honoring Kenneth J. Cardali of North Babylon. The Eagle
Scout is the highest rank available in the Boy Scouts organization. For his project, Cardali - of Boy Scouts Troop 95 - organized a food drive that collected over 1,800 pounds of food for the Church of Christ in West Islip. In addition, the drive yielded over $400 in
monetary donations which he used to purchase store gift cards. Supervisor Schaffer thanked Cardali for his community service and presented him with an official Town of Babylon Proclamation to honor him for his achievement.
