Longevity in marriage is something to be celebrated. Couples who reach fiftieth and sixtieth wedding anniversaries often commemorate those anniversaries with big parties. But there are some around the world who would consider golden anniversary celebrants to still be newlyweds. In December 2015, Karam Chand, 110, and his wife, Kartari Chand, 103, from Bradford, West Yorkshire (originally from India), celebrated their 90th wedding anniversary, becoming the world’s longest-betrothed couple. In America, John and Ann Betar, ages 104 and 100, respectively, have been married 83 years as of 2016. The couple eloped in 1932. They have been named one of America’s longest-married couples by the Worldwide Marriage Encounter.

Equity First Foundation (EFF) is a 501c3 nonprofit organization located here on Long Island. Rhonda Klch started this foundation with the mission to offer services, resources and programs to consumers and small businesses that are facing financial distress. Although the details of financial markets may not be necessary for everyone, a good understanding of everyday finances is needed to ensure your home, bank account and additional assets are protected as you go about your life.

Although EFF has switched their programs from in person to virtual, they have been well received. They continue to offer free financial counseling and outreach resources for numerous families on Long Island.

Educational Institution Program This program focuses on k-12, post secondary, and trade schools with student types comprised of all abilities including special needs and developmentally disabled. It is offered as a workshop / assembly that can last for as short as 45 minutes to as long as a full day or mini series. Each program is uniquely designed to fit the educational facility after a comprehensive needs analysis. Some sample topics that can be addressed are:

Community Outreach Program The Community Outreach Program focuses on independent facilities, partnering charities and nonprofits, community centers, libraries, career fairs, guest speakers, events and more for all demographics. These are offered in as short as 45 minutes to as long as a full day or mini series. Some sample topics are: first time home-buyer, understanding student loans, improving your credit, avoiding senior scams, understanding your retirement plan and more. Corporate Awareness Program This program focuses on a lunch and learn structure for 10 or more employees. Some sample topics are: paying off debt, understanding your 401K, saving for vacation, your family on a budget and benefits of good credit. Babylon High School recently honored its exceptional Class of 2020 with a series of four graduation ceremonies. On June 26, all 135 members of the graduating class gathered on the school’s football field for a “Senior Farewell.” Wearing masks and separated by six feet in all directions, the seniors listened to a reflection by senior class president Madaline Graham, a greeting from principal Al Cirone, speeches by salutatorian Katherine Hannon and valedictorian Anna Romero Mejia, and a farewell address by math

teacher Frank Mancuso, for whom the students had voted to speak. Due to Governor Cuomo’s 150-person capacity limit for graduations, only students were permitted to attend, but the event was live streamed so that proud families could watch from home. On June 27, BHS held three diploma conferment ceremonies, during which the names of all graduates were announced. Each session included 45 students, each of whom were allowed two guests. Graduates left these ceremonies with their

tassels on the left side of their caps and as official BHS alumni. The Babylon Union Free School District congratulates the entire Class of 2020 on their achievements, as well as their perseverance during an unconventional end to their high school careers. The district wishes the graduates great success and fulfillment in the future and is confident that they will make positive contributions as they advance to the next chapter.

Stephen O’Leary, who has served as the assistant principal of the West Babylon Senior High School for the past eight years, will step into the role of principal beginning in

the 2020-2021 school year. He will work alongside West Babylon Senior High School Interim Principal Dr. Ellice Vassallo during a transition period in July and August. Dr. Vassallo

announced her retirement after serving as principal of the school for the past 26 years. “I intend to work with all stakeholders in West Babylon to provide the

very best educational experience for every child who passes through the doors of the high school,” O’Leary said. O’Leary has been a part of the West Babylon school community since 2005. Beginning as a mathematics teacher in the high school, he transitioned to the role of mathematics chairperson and mathematics and

science chairperson. In 2012, he stepped into the role of assistant principal and also currently serves as the West Babylon Administrator’s Association president. O’Leary holds a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics and a master’s degree in mathematics from Stony Brook University. He received an advanced graduate
