Suffolk Resident Michael Marcantonio To Donate 30,000 Masks To Town Of Babylon Town of Babylon Supervisor Rich Schaffer, Deputy Supervisor Tony Martinez and the rest of the Town Board recently received a donation of 30,000 surgical masks from Suffolk County resident Michael Marcantonio on

the front steps of Town Hall. Supervisor Schaffer thanked Marcantonio for his amazing donation and willingness to help residents in the Town of Babylon during the COVID-19 outbreak. The masks will be

distributed to first responders, care facilities, and community organizations throughout the Town of Babylon once received under the guidance of Marcus Duffin, Special Projects Coordinator.

Equity First Foundation (EFF) is a 501c3 nonprofit organization located here on Long Island. Rhonda Klch started this foundation with the mission to offer services, resources and programs to consumers and small businesses that are facing financial distress. Although the details of financial markets may not be necessary for everyone, a good understanding of everyday finances is needed to ensure your home, bank account and additional assets are protected as you go about your life. This nonprofit is guided by a board of experts from the Long Island business community. They strive to educate the community so people can make financial decisions with knowledge and confidence. EFF provides financial education, literacy and best practices at low or no cost to individuals and groups from primary school through retirement and including life events. Rhonda Klch, Executive Director of the Equity First Foundation has taken all necessary steps to get out of her comfort zone and attack COVID with her resources. As a women entrepreneur, she used her relationships, social media and community to power through this current pandemic. Although EFF has switched their programs from in person to virtual, they have been well received. They continue to offer free financial counseling and outreach resources for numerous families on Long Island. The Equity First Foundation has three different types of programs that they offer: Educational Institution Program This program focuses on k-12, post secondary, and trade schools with student types comprised of all abilities including special needs and developmentally disabled. It is offered as a workshop / assembly that can last for as short as 45 minutes to as long as a full day or mini series. Each program is uniquely designed to fit the educational facility after a comprehensive needs analysis. Some sample topics that can be addressed are:

career options by salary, understanding money management, life skills, healthy financial choices, creating a budget, creating a savings account and more. Community Outreach Program The Community Outreach Program focuses on independent facilities, partnering charities and nonprofits, community centers, libraries, career fairs, guest speakers, events and more for all demographics. These are offered in as short as 45 minutes to as long as a full day or mini series. Some sample topics are: first time home-buyer, understanding student loans, improving your credit, avoiding senior scams, understanding your retirement plan and more. Corporate Awareness Program This program focuses on a lunch and learn structure for 10 or more employees. Some sample topics are: paying off debt, understanding your 401K, saving for vacation, your family on a budget and benefits of good credit. Congratulations Class of 2020 The North Babylon School District’s Board of Education, administration, staff, family and friends filed into the North Babylon High School’s stadium for the commencement ceremonies for the high school’s graduating Class of 2020 on June 26 and June 27. Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, the graduation was broken up into seven ceremonies to ensure public safety. In addition to their live ceremonies, the district also hosted a virtual ceremony. The first ceremony on June 26 kicked off with Superintendent of Schools Glen Eschbach and North Babylon High School Principal Jonathan Klomp highlighting the accomplishments of the Class of 2020. Prior to receiving their diplomas, the 354 students heard from several speakers who shared their wisdom and words of motivation for their new journey. This included Superintendent Eschbach, Principal Klomp, and senior class co-president Katie Doyle. Valedictorian Carlos Sabogal and

salutatorian Bryan Sabogal were unable to attend the live ceremonies due to the pandemic but had their speeches streamed during the virtual ceremony. Principal Klomp made introductions and thanked all those who made the live and virtual ceremonies possible. “Breaking up the Class of 2020 in a safe manner consistent with New York State requirements for social gatherings in order to recognize each student, required a lot of planning and flexibility. But we are bulldog strong and even though we are not all together today, we are together,” he continued. “Your high school graduation is an important milestone but just one of many available to you as a result of the education that has been provided by the hard working and dedicated teachers, administrators and support staff within the North Babylon School District. Congratulations to all of you. Superintendent Eschbach challenged students to make a conscious effort to practice

kindness and maintain dignity and respect. “Become mindful of how you respond to others and be responsible for your words and your actions. Acknowledge the value of different perspectives, create relationships that build trust, limit bias and favoritism and strive for the best overall outcomes. Do your part to make your school, workplace and community and better place for all to work live, learn and play. Be kind, be proud of who you are and stay true to yourself,” he continued. “Take the time to reflect back on all that you have accomplished and use it to fuel your next chapter. Always remember your bulldog pride and your North Babylon roots, which have helped shape you into the fine individuals that you have become.” The North Babylon High School’s Class of 2020 turned the tassels on their caps from right to left prior to receiving their diplomas and safely exiting the field with their families.

West Babylon School District has named Jessica Yawney-Kohler as the new principal of the West Babylon Junior High School, effective July 1. For the past four years, Ms. Yawney-Kohler served as the school’s assistant principal and will replace Daniel McKeon, who has taken a position in another school district. “I recognize just how special this building, its staff and its students are, which is why I am so honored to have been selected as the new principal,” she said. “For the past four years, I have had the privilege to call myself a West Babylon eagle, but being a part of this community during this time of crisis in which we have all worked to take care of one another, in one form or another, has deepened my commitment to you, and I couldn’t be any prouder to have been chosen to lead this outstanding team.” Ms. Yawney-Kohler holds a bachelor’s degree in clinical psychology from Marywood College and a master’s degree from Columbia University.
