Many things have changed in the past year due to the Covid pandemic. Like many others, the girls in Babylon Village Girl Scout Troop 2440 had to adapt to that change. The girls had been looking forward to many activities, including working toward their Bronze Award. The Bronze Award is earned when Girl Scouts work toward a sustainable goal that benefits the community. For their Bronze Award, Troop 2440 worked together to come up with an idea that they felt would recognize and thank Healthcare Heroes for all of their hard work during the Covid pandemic. The Girl Scouts have developed a relationship with The Bristal in West Babylon and decided to create mask lanyards for the Healthcare Heroes that work there. Despite not being able to have traditional meetings, each of the girls created lanyards independently and during virtual meetings. They also organized virtual meetings with younger girl scout troops and taught other girls how to create lanyards. Troop 2440 has worked hard encouraging other girl scout troops to create lanyards and to recognize the helpers in our community. After months of planning and work, girls in Troop 2440 were excited to be able to deliver the mask lanyards to the Bristal. Each of the girls dedicated a minimum of twenty hours of time to this cause before being able to participate in this delivery. Together they were able to deliver 100 mask lanyards.

Contractors For Kids (CFK) is a non-profit organization, which was founded for the purpose of providing assistance to families in Long Island communities. Their goal is to assist children and their families overcome obstacles that have unfortunately changed or have impacted their lives through the sickness, injury or death of a child. They are committed to this cause and want to give hope and reassurance for the futures of Long Islanders. CFK was founded in 2005 by Kevin Harney and Alan Nahmias of Stalco Construction. Kevin and Alan, both long-time philanthropists, saw the growing need for financial assistance in our communities and knew that something more needed to be done. Through random acts of kindness, they were slowly changing the lives of others, however they thirsted to make more change so they decided to form this non-profit, Contractors For Kids. The Board of Directors, members, supporters and volunteers of CFK are all “Contractors For Kids.” They are all helping others and building futures for children and their families in need. Their organization runs on donations only and is volunteer based, they have no employees. One family at a time, they make sure that the financial hardship brought on by sickness, injury or death does not destroy an already hurting family. Whether it is to pay a phone bill or a mortgage payment, they want to be there to help. So how do you qualify to get help? It’s quite simple. If you can prove that you are struggling financially because of the sickness, injury or death of a child, you live on Long Island (in Nassau or Suffolk County), and you have filled out their Application For Assistance, they will get in touch with you to see how they can be of help! Contractors For Kids is local to the core. They know our Island well and they love to help locals. Their office is

located in Holbrook and they have no plans of going anywhere. The pandemic took its toll on CFK, as it did on many, but they stayed aﬂoat and are thankful for the opportunity to continue to make a difference. Since 2005, CFK has given out more than 3 MILLION DOLLARS to help local Long Islanders. Here are some of the areas they’ve helped others ﬁnancially: Rent, Mortgage Payments, Oil Deliveries, Utility Bills, Food, Transportation To & From Hospitals, Co-Payments, Medications & Funeral Expenses. Donations are so important to CFK, especially being that they receive no grant money. They would like to thank all thsoe who attended their Scavenger Hunt fundraising event on April 10th. Their next fundraising event will be a golf outing on June 14th, stay tuned for more information! Why does NY State have such restrictive guidelines for animal hospitals?

We enjoy having you there too.

The NY State government has put detailed guidelines in place for all businesses, not just veterinarians. For example, medical facilities are required to screen patients before admitting them into the facility.

It’s much easier to us to talk to you directly about your pet’s health. However right now we are required to follow guidelines issued by New York State that state “Curbside intake and pickup of animals should be used, wherever practical, to minimize the numbers of clients in waiting areas and exam rooms.”* Although that creates a lot of extra work for our staff, we are committed to complying with the NY State safety guidelines during the COVID-19 crisis, and to protect our client’s health and safety. *Exceptions can be made in situations like euthanasia

Are these still necessary? Restrictions are lifted on other things. By July 2020, restrictions like curbside check-in have helped reduce the number of people diagnosed with COVID-19 in New York State down from over 10,000 a day to below 1,000. At the same time we have seen infections rise dramatically in other states who had fewer restrictions.

The Kiwanis Club of Lindenhurst officially launched it’s 2021 Hometown Heroes Banner Program in partnership with the Town of Babylon offering residents the opportunity to honor service men and women with a commemorative banner to be displayed in the hamlets of North Babylon, West Babylon, Deer Park, Wheatley Heights, North Amityville, Wyandanch and Copiague. First introduced in the Village of Lindenhurst, the program has now expanded throughout Babylon where banners will be displayed on decorative lamp posts from Memorial Day to Veterans Day.

North Babylon UFSD Music Education Program Receives National Recognition

The North Babylon Union Free School District has been honored with the Best Communities for Music Education Award from the NAMM Foundation. The NAMM Foundation recognizes communities for outstanding efforts of teachers, administrators, parents, students and community leaders for making music part of a wellrounded education.

“We are so very proud of our creative, hard-working students and families,” said District Director of Art and Music Programs Kim Lowenborg-Coyne. “Talent only takes you so far. It is the loving support of our families and consistent promotion of our program by our staff, administration and Board of Education that has created a high-quality program of depth. Everyone

has talent. It’s what you do with it that matters.” This marks the 16th time North Babylon Schools has received the national recognition. “Our music program has been a voice of hope for our students, community and the entire world throughout the pandemic. We are proud to have maintained our program,” said LowenborgCoyne.

BABYLON VILLAGE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE’S EASTER EGG HUNT! - On the morning of Saturday, March 27th, Suffolk County Legislator Kevin McCaffrey visited the Babylon Village Chamber of Commerce’s Easter Egg Hunt! The event included more than 30 Babylon Village businesses, who placed activity tables outside their stores and gleefully handed out Easter eggs to hundreds of eager children. The Chamber of Commerce did an excellent job in coordinating the event- complete with maps and volunteers standing ready to help throughout the Village. They were even able to coordinate with the Easter Bunny for a special visit!
