The Wyandanch Public Library unveiled recently the SLED (Suffolk Libraries Empowering Discovery) Mobile Library that will be offering services in the Library parking lot on Tuesdays & Saturdays, from 10am-2pm. The Wyandanch Public Library is located at 14 South 20th Street in Wyandanch, NY 11798. On each visit, a Library staff will be offering limited library services including library card sign-ups, printing, faxing,

Law Office Building Was Built During Lincoln Presidency, Has Ties to Long Island Lawyers Who Founded the Brooklyn Bridge Corp and Became State’s Top Judge Town of Babylon Deputy Supervisor Tony Martinez, Councilman Terence McSweeney and Historian Mary Cascone joined with Village of Babylon officials and others to congratulate McDonough PLLC with a Circa Board from the Village of Babylon Historical and Preservation Society for its law office in Babylon Village. Founding Member Matthew T. McDonough, Esq. was joined also joined by Babylon Village Mayor Mary Adams and the Historical Society’s Historic Homes Committee members Wayne Horsley

and Gilda Gricka. The Village of Babylon Historical and Preservation Society’s Historic Homes Commitee is dedicated to researching and preserving the history of historic homes and structures in the Village of Babylon. The building that houses the firm’s law offices is known as the Thomas Wood House, Mr. Wood being the earliest known resident. The building was constructed circa 1860, around the same time Abraham Lincoln was elected the 16th President of the United States.

The site has ties to Long Island’s legal community. The property was owned by Alexander McCue and Edgar M. Cullen, both men were founders of the law firm Cullen & Dykman. Mr. McCue went on to serve as the Solicitor of the United States Treasury under President Grover Cleveland and incorporated the New York and Brooklyn Bridge Co.. Mr. Cullen went on to serve as the Chief Judge of New York at the turn of the last century. While Chief Judge, Cullen presided over the impeachment trial of Governor Sulzer.

T h e Twilight Wish Foundation is a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization whose mission is to honor and enrich the lives of seniors through intergenerational Twilight Wish celebrations. Since the organization’s founding in 2003, their goal has been to make the world a nicer place to age, one Twilight Wish at a time. When a Twilight Wish is granted, a senior is recognized for all that they have done throughout their lives and is shown that they are appreciated and valued. To date, the Twilight Wish Foundation has granted over 3,700 wishes throughout our country and multiple wishes have being granted on Long Island recently! These wishes have ranged from simple needs wishes, such as shaving razors for nursing home veterans, to living life to the fullest wishes, such as going cross country in a tractor trailer truck. Recently, many Long Island residents had their wishes come true. Each week for the remaining weeks this month, I will feature wishes that were granted right here on Long Island, starting with Kathy W. Kathy is a 74 year old resident of Middle Island who was nominated by one of her friends. She has trouble hearing, but continues to be an active participant in the Catholic Daughters of America and the first one to jump in and help out, according to her nominator. She is also very active in the parish senior club and pre-COVID she attended all the functions. Kathy needed hearing aids, but could not afford them on her fixed income. However, after being nominated and chosen, The Twilight Wish Foundation was able to grant her wish of receiving hearing aids! This was a life changing experince for all involved.

This Virtual One-Room Schoolhouse Experience Makes a Huge Impact on Long Island & Beyond The Farmingville Historical Society was formed in 1992 to preserve and restore the Bald Hills OneRoom Schoolhouse. The Bald Hills Schoolhouse is a one-room Greek Revival Schoolhouse built in 1850. It stands on its original foundation on Horseblock Road in Farmingville and served the Farmingville community until 1929. After 84 years of being closed, the Schoolhouse was re-opened in November 2013 to educate the community through student field trips, history speaker presentations, historic events and now through The Virtual One-Room Schoolhouse.

Why does NY State have such restrictive guidelines for animal hospitals?

The NY State government has put detailed guidelines in place for all businesses, not just veterinarians. For example, medical facilities are required to screen patients before admitting them into the facility.

It’s much easier to us to talk to you directly about your pet’s health. However right now we are required to follow guidelines issued by New York State that state “Curbside intake and pickup of animals should be used, wherever practical, to minimize the numbers of clients in waiting areas and exam rooms.”* Although that creates a lot of extra work for our staff, we are committed to complying with the NY State safety guidelines during the COVID-19 crisis, and to protect our client’s health and safety. *Exceptions can be made in situations like euthanasia

By July 2020, restrictions like curbside check-in have helped reduce the number of people diagnosed with COVID-19 in New York State down from over 10,000 a day to below 1,000.
