FCA’s original orphanage, the Temporary Home for Children, was founded in 1884. Louisa Lee Schuyler, great-granddaughter of Alexander Hamilton, spearheaded the establishment of the orphanage. During this upcoming Women’s History Month, Family & Children’s Association will be honoring Louisa Lee Schuyler’s vision by joining forces with some of the most inﬂuential female philanthropists and business owners across Long Island with its inaugural Long Island Women in Philanthropy Breakfast & Fashion Show. McCaffrey paid a visit to the Starbucks on Route 109 in West Babylon for a “Coffee with a Cop” event sponsored by the Suffolk County Police Department’s First Precinct COPE Section. The “Coffee with a Cop” program, facilitated by First Precinct COPE officers, provides a unique opportunity for the public to interact with the police in a casual setting. It also provides the Police Department with the opportunity to promote their various programs aimed at growing the relationship between the Police and the public, including the use of the Nixle app for regular updates on police activity.

West Babylon School District administrators and board of education members thanked and recognized members of the school community for their efforts at the Feb. 9 board of education meeting. Members of the Suffolk County Police Department, and West Babylon’s School Resource Officer Osias, were presented with tokens of appreciation and thankyou cards handmade by

students throughout the district. Officer Osias had supported the students of West Babylon for many years and recently announced her retirement. Members of the South Bay Kindness Squad were also acknowledged for their efforts to spread cheer through the school community. Superintendent of Schools Dr. Yiendhy Farrelly remarked how she saw

the students holding up kindness signs outside of the school one day and it made her smile. Dr. Farrelly also presented thanks to custodian Mike Kuffo and teacher Ms. Shaw for the murals they have created in the school buildings. Both volunteered their time to create the works of art in the elementary school buildings after school and on weekends.
