The program is set to kick off in the spring and will run as an eight team league, where each school will play every other school once for a seven game regular season. Following the announcement, District Director of Physical Education, Health Education, Recreation and Athletics Jason Friesen said the next steps include developing a season based off of the game schedule, appointing two coaches for the team, open up registration and form a team based off the registration. “I am incredibly excited for this new Girls Flag Football endeavor,” he added. “What a tremendous opportunity this is to provide another sport for female High School students in North Babylon! I can’t wait for the Spring 2022 season to begin.”

The North Babylon Union Free School District has been selected to participate in the New York Jets High School Girls Flag Football League’s pilot program this spring. High School student-athlete Juleesah Hines, a senior, and district officials represented North Babylon schools and attended a launch event for the program at MetLife Stadium on Feb. 1. The New York Jets made the announcement that they are expanding the Jets High School Girls Flag Football League on Feb. 2, in honor of National Girls & Women in Sports Day. There will be 16 schools across Long Island in the league. North Babylon is one of eight Suffolk County schools selected for this initiative, which is being sponsored and supported by Nike, the New York Jets, NYSPHSAA and Section 11. During the launch event, a panel of women spoke about their various roles in the NFL and provided positive messages to attendees. In addition,

Ethical Friends of Children, a program helping needy families on Long Island, seeks clothing (tops, bottoms, pjs, sweaters and socks) in certain sizes. Specific sizes are: GIRLS: 3-4, 4-5 and 9-10 and BOYS: 7-8 and 9-10. Ethical Friends of Children is an outreach

program of the Ethical Humanist Society of Long Island., established in 1985. “We assist more than 2,500 children and their families each year by providing them clothing for children from newborn to size 12 as well as infant furniture at no cost,” says Pat Spencer of Port Washington. The “store” – staffed entirely by

Clothing Donations Needed For Long Island Children

Mural Makes Global Connections Forest Avenue Elementary School in the West Babylon School District recently participated in the 2021 Global Traveling Mural project. Every student in the school made their mark on the “We Are Forest Avenue School” mural. This is Forest Avenue’s first year participating in the traveling mural project. The school chose a theme that best represents them: Long Islanders, diverse, trustworthy, respectful, proud, fair, responsible, perseverant,

good citizens and caring. Each of the 10 pillars are sprinkled with additional symbols as well as unique and special qualities that are found at Forest Avenue Elementary School. The traveling mural project connects with school communities around the world to create murals of peace, friendship, diversity and love. The theme and design of the mural created is unique to each school. Once registered for the project, Forest Avenue was connected with 10 other schools, libraries or

classrooms. The murals are all created on 10-footlong butcher paper and can be designed using paints, crayons, markers or pencils. When their project was complete, the mural was cut into 10, 1-foot-long pieces and sent to the nine places on their list. Responsibilities: • Assigns and oversees the work of school maintenance personnel, and/or outside contractors, engaged in repairing and maintaining buildings, grounds, and equipment in a school district. • Reviews work in progress to ensure adherence to time schedules and departmental standards. • Supervises and advises workers on the best methods of installing or repairing door locks, hinges, shelf brackets, sash chains, and other building fixtures. • Makes frequent inspections of school buildings to determine maintenance needs of floors, walls, windows, doors, desks, and boilers; prepares requisitions for lumber, paint, plumbing and lighting fixtures and other supplies needed to complete a maintenance project. • Maintains time, supply and equipment records and prepares cost and progress reports on current projects. • Participates in the maintenance of the school district’s buildings, equipment, and other properties. • Instructs crewmembers in new assignments and assesses that satisfactory work quality is maintained. • Directs and participates in maintenance of machines and equipment, assuring availability of tools and proper adherence to safety procedures. • Determines proper methods of accomplishing assigned work based upon personal experience, maintenance manuals, technical advice, and assessment of the project(s). • Performs other duties as assigned. Requirements: • Comprehensive knowledge of buildings and grounds operation and maintenance practices. • Thorough knowledge of the basic principles and methods of plumbing, painting, plastering, masonry, and carpentry. • Good knowledge of the operation, maintenance and safety characteristics of high- and low-pressure boilers. • Good knowledge of effective supervisory methods. Ability to: • Plan and supervise the work of subordinate supervisors and tradespeople in a manner conducive to full performance and high morale. • Estimate time and material costs and to order sufficient supplies and equipment for each project. • Understand and follow oral and written instructions. • Prepare, interpret, and work from technical sketches, specifications, and plans. • Maintain records and to prepare time and progress reports, physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
