West Babylon Student-Musicians Selected For SCMEA
Eighteen studentmusicians from the West Babylon School District were chosen to perform at the Suffolk County Music Educators’ Association AllCounty honors ensembles. Students are nominated by their music teachers and chosen by a SCMEA selection committee based on their outstanding performance in school music programs, as well as in local NYSSMA solo festivals. The West Babylon student-musicians will join the ranks of the county’s finest orchestra, chorus and band musicians for rehearsals and performances during two weekends in March. Each year, thousands of students are nominated for SCMEA All-County. Due to limitations related to COVID-19, only 90 students per
ensemble were selected for each SCMEA divisional music festival this year. SUFFOLK EMS ICON HONORED - Suffolk Legislator Tom Donnelly (pictured right) joins with Legislator James Mazzarella, (pictured left) and Presiding Officer Robert Calarco (pictured center right) in honoring retiring 36-year Suffolk County EMS worker Ellen Komosinski at the December General Meeting of the Legislature in Hauppauge. Suffolk County Legislator Tom Donnelly (D-Huntington Station) recently honored the retiring Ellen Komosinski for her remarkable 36-year career with the Suffolk County Department of Health, Division of Emergency Medical Services (EMS), joined by his fellow colleagues in the Legislature. Beginning her career in 1999 as a Suffolk County EMS instructor, Ms. Komosinski has held a multitude of critically important positions including: American Heart Association (AHA) BLS Regional Faculty NYC/LI region, AHA ECC Regional Chairperson for NYC/LI region, Suffolk REMSCO Public Access Defibrillation Coordinator, Suffolk County PAD Coordinator, Suffolk County Emergency
Services CISM Coordinator and NYS CIC 2012. In 2018, she was promoted to Grade 23, EMS Officer. Ms. Komosinski has served as a Coordinator for the Suffolk County Emergency Services Critical Incident Stress Management Team (CISM) for more than two decades. CISM operates a 24-hour hotline for debriefings and related services and has been ready and available for emergency responders and dispatchers who needed to talk to someone throughout the very difficult, stressful time of COVID. Under her leadership, the CISM program has received many accolades and earned a well-deserved standing as a model program for EMS Providers and First Responders In addition and perhaps
most impactful, Ms. Komosinski has overseen the Suffolk County EMS Division “AHA Training Center” for the last 22 years. She has taught approximately 26,500 separate CPR classes for both County employees and residents and trained close to 150,000 people in CPR. “It is truly staggering how many lives Ellen Komosinski has impacted and will continue to impact,” said Legislator Donnelly. “On behalf of the entire Legislature and all Suffolk County residents, I thank Ms. Komosinski for her incredible, inspiring and impressive service. As a member of REMSCO, I know she will be missed, and I wish her all the best of luck in her future endeavors.”

On the morning of Monday, January 3rd, Suffolk County Legislator Kevin J. McCaffrey was unanimously selected by his peers to serve as the next Presiding Officer of the Suffolk County Legislature. Every two years, the Suffolk County Legislature calls to order an Organizational Meeting on the first business day following New Year’s Day. At this meeting, new Legislators will be sworn into office for the first time, new Legislative employees will assume their roles, and the Legislators will cast votes for who will lead them as Presiding Officer and Deputy Presiding Officer. At this year’s meeting, Legislator McCaffrey was sworn into office for a fifth consecutive term representing the Fourteenth Legislative District, which encompasses the Village of Lindenhurst, Village of Babylon, the hamlets of West Babylon and North Lindenhurst, portions of Copiague, North Babylon and Babylon’s barrier beach communities. New York Marine Rescue Center (NYMRC) will be able to expand its marine conservation and educational programs through a multiyear grant from Bank of America, after being named as a 2021 Bank of America Neighborhood Builders® awardee for its impactful work on Long Island. This comes as the center prepares to treat sea turtles impacted by cold stunning a phenomenon similar to hypothermia, which occurs annually on Long Island in the fall and winter months when sea turtles are exposed to cold water for extended periods. As a Neighborhood Builder, NYMRC receives $200,000 in unrestricted funding over two years as well as leadership training on topics ranging from increasing financial sustainability, human capital management and strategic storytelling, joins a network of peer organizations across the U.S. The program continues to be the nation’s largest investment into nonprofit leadership development. NYMRC has seen an increased need for marine
rehabilitation services as changing ocean temperatures disrupt marine environments, while experiencing a decrease in volunteers due to coronavirus. Being one of the largest rehabilitation facilities in the region, during the 2020/2021 cold stun season, the NYMRC took in an additional 29 sea turtles from network partners due to limited space within the network. Additionally, the center is expanding its educational programs to reach schools not only on Long Island but in Florida and Puerto Rico, expanding knowledge of marine ecosystems and inspiring young people to participate in conservation efforts. “The New York Marine Rescue Center is protecting Long Island’s marine life, while also educating and empowering children and adults to take steps to conserve our oceans,” said Marc Perez, President, Bank of America Long Island. “These efforts are crucial to Bank of America’s commitment to drive progress on important

Long Island’s largest year-round professional theatrical venue, The Argyle Theatre (Mark and Dylan Perlman, Executive Producers & Managing Partners; Evan Pappas, Artistic Director), presents the World Premiere of PUNK ROCK GIRL with book and arrangements by Tony-nominated Long Island Composer Joe Iconis (Broadway’s Be More Chill), arrangements and orchestrations by Rob Rokicki (Broadway’s The Lightning Thief), directed and choreographed by Jennifer Werner Worldwide Associate for Book Of Mormon), and in partnership with Lively McCabe Entertainment. It will begin performances on January 20, in advance of its January 22 opening night and will run through February 27, 2022. The Argyle Theatre (34 West Main Street, Babylon, Long Island).
The creative team includes Music Supervision by Geoffrey Ko, Musical Direction by Jennifer Peacock, Associate Direction and Choreography by Leonard Sullivan, Set Design by Nate Bertone, Costume Design by Jen Caprio, Lighting Design by John Salutz, Sound Design by Carlos Dias Jr and Prop Design by Steven Velasquez, Associate Scenic Designer is Joshua Warner, Associate Costume Designer is Anna Blazer and Heather Neil and Prop Assistant is Courtney Alberto. The Production Stage Manager is Alison Savino, with 1st Assistant Stage Manager Leah V. Pye, and 2nd Assistant Stage Manager /CSM Shannon Stewart. The Casting Director is Michael Cassara, CSA.
