By JoAnn Cilla “Get your motor runnin’, head out on the highway, looking for adventure in whatever comes our way.” This song, “Born to Be Wild” by Steppenwolf, was on the radio this morning. It sounded like the perfect introduction to 2024. This year is our opportunity to fully embrace “whatever comes our way.” We need to put the pedal to the metal and speed towards success and fulfillment… whatever that looks like in business and in our personal lives. The business world in 2024 is rapidly evolving, driven by technology, and changing consumer behaviors. If you want the checkered flag this year, you need to remember one word: innovation. This doesn’t mean investing in every new gadget or trend. It’s more about making small, consistent improvements while being open to change. For local business owners, think about improving your online presence and using new digital payments for a better, easier customer experience. It can also mean enhancing in-store shopping. In our personal lives, let’s not do the same old “New Year’s Resolutions” and vow to make this year different from all the past years of failed promises to ourselves. Let’s make our goal this year a simple one: Wellness!

External Diploma Program The National External Diploma Program offers adults 21 and over, the opportunity to receive credit for their life experiences, and earn a high school equivalency diploma without the challenge of taking lengthy timed examinations. NEDP, is a competency based program for students who are unable to attend classes or who prefer to work at home. Successful

candidates for NEDP include former ESL students, students who have been out of school for prolonged periods of time, or students who fare better without the structure of tests. Flu virus was declared prevalent by the New York State Health Commissioner on December 6, 2023, and hospitals on Long Island and throughout the Hudson Valley are taking additional steps to prevent the spread of flu, including enhanced efforts to vaccinate all employees and distribution of surgical facemasks. ENVIRONMENTAL CLUB GETS LESSON IN ENERGY PRODUCTION - The Environmental Club from Robert Moses Middle School in the North Babylon School District met with members of the Covanta Energy team to discuss garbage and how it can be turned into energy instead of ending up in a landfill. Covanta taught the club members team how they burn trash to produce energy. By Barry Klitsberg, Nassau County Medicare Counselor, Family and Children’s Association (FCA) Medicare is a federally run health insurance program for people who are 65 years of age or have collected Social Security Disability for 24 months. It is also available for individuals with permanent kidney failure or Lou Gehrig’s Disease. Each year Medicare gives participants the opportunity to modify their health care plan during Open Enrollment season, which runs from October 15th through December 7th. When January rolls around, there are always some Medicare beneficiaries who despite their best intentions neglected to switch plans during Open Enrollment or didn’t know about Open Enrollment. This generally means that beneficiaries will have to stay with their current enrollment for 2024. Exceptions to Open Enrollment Limits There are, however, exceptions to the Open Enrollment rule. Medicare beneficiaries who are in a Medicare Advantage Plan (HMO or PPO) and didn’t change their plan by December 7 may switch Medicare Advantage plans between January 1 and March 31, 2024. If you get your prescription coverage through the plan, you can also switch to a different advantage plan or drop your plan and return to original Medicare. Please note, if you return to the

Holiday decor comes in many different sizes — from the smallest tree ornaments to illuminated statues for the yard or inflatable items. Figuring out a storage plan can take a little effort.
