Senior Computer Classes Town of Oyster Bay seniors are invited to take part in computer classes to be held at the William P. Bennett Hicksville Community Center, located at 28 West Carl Street in Hicksville, announced Town Councilwoman Rebecca M. Alesia. The classes are held by the Education and Assistance Corp (EAC) Inc. for seniors 60 years of age and older through its SeniorNet program. Classes will begin on Tuesday, May 7th. “The Town is pleased to extend our partnership with EAC to offer both of these classes to seniors, in an effort to better provide computer education to our older residents,” Councilwoman Alesia said. “The classes are wide ranging, and no prior experience with computers is necessary. Since these classes are no more than 10 people at a time, the most alluring part of these classes is the personal and attentive interactions each senior receives from qualified volunteer instructors.” Councilwoman Alesia noted that the two classes being offered, Introduction to Computers and What’s New on the Internet, will

Registration for the Town of Oyster Bay Summer Recreation Program is currently underway by mail, according to Town Councilman Joe Pinto. “Now entering its 48th year, the Town of Oyster Bay Summer Recreation Program offers an exciting and affordable summer option,” Councilman Pinto stated. “Children between the ages of four and 12 are eligible to join this agegrouped program, which provides a safe, clean and stimulating atmosphere where they can enjoy themselves. Children are grouped into Early Childhood, 4-6; Juniors, 7-8; and Intermediates, 9-10 and Seniors, 1112. Depending upon the children’s ages, the program offers trips, tournaments, shows and athletic events, including the 35th Annual Tobay Games.” “Families with children who participated in last year’s Summer
Recreation Program will receive a registration packet for this year’s program,” Councilman Pinto continued. “For all others, just call the Recreation Division of the Town’s Department of Parks at 516.797.4125 and you will be sent a registration packet.” Councilman Pinto noted that the fee for the Summer Recreation Program is $200 for one child, $275 for two children, and $75 for each additional child within a family of more than two. The registration deadline is June 14th. The Summer Recreation Program will be held at Marjorie R. Post (Massapequa), PlainviewOld Bethpage and SyossetWoodbury Community Parks, Ellsworth W. Allen Town Park in Farmingdale, Theodore Roosevelt Memorial Park and Beach in Oyster Bay, and Tappen Beach in Glenwood Landing. The program begins Monday, July 1st, and runs through
Friday, August 9th, with no program on July 4th. There are both morning and afternoon sessions each day and children may attend both. However, no supervision is provided between 11:45 a.m. and 12:45 p.m. Parents must make arrangements for their children during this time. “The Town’s Summer Recreation Program is an excellent opportunity for children to participate in wholesome activities right in their own communities,” Councilman Pinto commented. “Both parents and kids love the program. Summer Hockey School The Town of Oyster Bay Ice Skating Center will be operating a new summer hockey school program developed and run by The Rinx Hockey School at the Town’s state-of-the art Ice Skating Center, located at 1001 Stewart Avenue in Bethpage, according to Town Councilman Joseph G. Pinto. “Hockey players in the Town of Oyster Bay

“For 20 years, they have provided quality hockey camps and clinics,” Councilman Pinto said. “They know how to bring out the potential in every young player.” The program, which is slated to begin June 24th and run through August 16th, will include a full day of on ice and off-ice training run by trained hockey professionals. Throughout the week, participants will receive the benefit of 15 to 20 hours of on-ice training and 6 to 8 hours of off-ice training. The program will be broken down into two levels, intermediate and advanced. The intermediate skills program is for ages 5 through 12 and will include 15 hours of on ice training per week and over 8 hours of training per week off the rink. The advanced session is geared for travel players ages 6 through 14 and includes 20 hours of on ice training and 6 hours of training per week off the ice. Both sessions emphasize shooting, passing, agility drills and field sports. Lunch every day is included. “These training sessions will be challenging and rewarding,” Councilman Pinto said. “They will also be packed with tips and insight to help players develop the fullest.” “What a great way to spend the summer having fun while concentrating on overall skill development,” Councilman Pinto said. “Town of Oyster Bay residents receive a 10% discount on any of the training weeks.” Early arrival and late pick up will also be available. They say the customer is always right, and yet… I recently had the pleasure of contacting the DMV regarding an error in the address printed on my registration. Silly me, I had sent the renewal in by snail mail rather than utilize their online services for this one thing, and then had proceeded to wait approximately three weeks for my new registration sticker to arrive. Relieved as I was to eventually receive it in time, something made me examine the information extra closely – and there it was, the typo. As per the instructions on the form, I immediately contacted my local DMV call center to report the mistake, figuring a new one would need to be issued. After waiting on hold for, oh,
about 20 minutes or so, I was finally transferred to a human – who promptly transferred me to yet another “department” (the complaint department?) for further assistance. More hold music. At least another 15 minutes spent waiting. And waiting... And then, finally, a voice came on the line. I explained the issue. Silence. “Hello?” I said, thinking perhaps the line had gone dead. “Yeah. So what’s the problem? You got it, didn’t you?” was the reply I was met with. “Um, yes, I received it, but the address is incorrect… and it says to contact you to correct it…?” I was beyond perplexed at having to explain any further at this point. “Yeah well, it’s correct on your license, and all they really pay attention to is your name and street number – the town doesn’t matter.” Okay then. “Ok,” I said, “Well then I guess
