Preschool Arts & Crafts Program Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino announced today that the Town will offer a Toddler Arts & Crafts Program throughout the fall. This 8-week program will be held at the Town’s Oyster Bay Ice Skating Center Community Room, and is open to children ages 2 through 4. Registration begins September 10th,

from 9:00 am to 3:30 pm, at the Town’s Parks Department Recreation Office in Town Hall South, at 977 Hicksville Road, in Massapequa. “This program is a wonderful way to help support your toddler’s development through nurturing their artistic expression,” Supervisor Saladino said. “The Town’s

since academics came to dominate kindergarten, as the importance of standardized tests grew in the No Child Left Behind era.” The Toddler Arts & Crafts Program is 8 weeks in duration, and residents who sign their toddler up for the program must choose one class per week, per child. Classes will take place on Wednesdays at 10 am (two year olds only) or 11 am (three and four year olds) from Wednesday, September 26 through November 21. Classes will also take place on Thursdays at 10 am (two year olds only) or 11 am (three and four year olds) from September 27 through November 22. Each class is about 30 minutes to an hour long. The cost of the program is $25 per child who is a Town resident, and $30 per child whose guardian

is a Town resident but not the child. Space is limited and upon registration, the child’s birth certificate and a tax or utility bill will be required to validate age and proof of residency. A guardian must be present during the class. The Toddler’s Arts & Crafts Program is run by the Town’s Parks Department, Recreation Division. BOCES Summer Programs Recap Bethpage student Michael Rosen enjoyed his second year in the Careers in Veterinary Medicine program at the Nassau BOCES and Hofstra University Summer Camp. “I love working with animals,” Michael said. Westbury Burt Reynolds Tribute Thousands of New York fans will pay their respects to the Smokey and the Bandit star, Burt Reynolds, later this month at Long Island’s largest car show with a “100-Trans Am Salute,” with a ceremonial parade of over 100 classic Pontiac Firebird Trans Ams in procession at Eisenhower Park. Making the Shift “Take the ﬁrst step in faith. You don’t have to see the whole staircase. Just take the ﬁrst step.” – Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Once upon a time I believed “circumstances” was a dirty word, and for one to allow themselves to be carried by outside circumstances was akin to falling short of personal resolve. Through the gift of time and perspective, “I Can See Clearly Now,” as the late Dr. Wayne Dyer famously titled one of his forty best-selling books. We may find ourselves in a situation where it becomes impossible to remain in comfortable familiarity. The universe not-so-subtly nudges us in a different direction. This new and unfamiliar path could be related to finances, health, relationship, profession or geographical location. There is a divine wisdom and design to this universe; it’s the same wisdom that created you. Sometimes it’s okay to let it take the wheel and go along for the ride. Four weeks ago, I was sitting under two gently swaying palm trees on my Florida patio,

overlooking a crystal-clear blue lake and watching a family of ducks congregating on the grass in my yard before toddling into the water for their afternoon swim. A moment later, I received a call that would change the direction of my life. I was offered the job of Managing Editor for South Bay’s Neighbor Newspapers, in my native, Long Island, New York. After enthusiastically accepting the job and hanging up the phone, the reality set in that I would have to break the news to my son that we were relocating back to New York. We’d be leaving our Florida home, his school, and packing up our belongings to report to this new job in less than a week. The enormity of it all had me suddenly frozen. After sorting through the emotional and logistical details, I reminded myself of the very spiritual principals I’d been studying for a decade. In my book, Journaling Fame: a memoir of a life unhinged and on the record, and in my speaking engagements, the biggest takeaway I offer is that for a human life to be happy, healthy and whole, you must

believe in something greater than yourself. I don’t care what you choose to call it. If you make the shift to knowing that you are here to both learn and teach; and that your life is being orchestrated in creative collaboration with something greater, you will begin to experience the magic of life. I took a deep breath (or two!) and embraced this new adventure. I suddenly found the clarity to make the move as seamless and positive an experience as I could for me and my son. Shortly after arriving at the South Bay’s Neighbor Newspapers office on a Tuesday morning, I was greeted by my predecessor, Jamie Lynn Ryan. Jamie spent the next nine days generously training me to take the baton. At Jamie’s farewell celebration just before the start of Labor Day Weekend, I was moved by the impact she has had on the rest of the staff, and on the newspapers’ readership. I have large shoes to fill, but I am excited to see what’s in store, and my hope is to be of service to you, the reader, in your pursuit of Living Well!

Rhonda Klch started this foundation with the mission to offer services, resources and programs to consumers and small businesses that are facing financial distress. Although the details of financial markets may not be necessary for everyone, a good understanding of everyday finances is needed to ensure your home, bank account and additional assets are protected as you go about your life. This nonprofit is guided by a board of experts from the Long Island business community. They strive to educate the community so people can make financial decisions with knowledge and confidence. Town of Oyster Bay Fitness Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino invites residents interested in maintaining or improving their levels of fitness to register for the Town’s popular CoEd Fitness Classes, which return this fall, beginning in September. The fitness classes are for individuals 18 years of age or older and will be held at the Hicksville Athletic Center. Supervisor Saladino stated, “I’m proud to announce that the Town will once again be offering these excellent fitness programs, which provide a terrific outlet to enjoy exercising and staying in shape, all while meeting new people. This fall, residents will have the choice between Zumba, Yoga, Cardio Kickboxing, and Pilates, with each session lasting 10 weeks.”

Residents interested in registering for any of the four programs are encouraged to come down to the Town’s Hicksville Athletic Center, located at 167 Broadway in Hicksville. Registration is ongoing based on availability, and class fees are $60.00 for residents and $70.00 for non-residents (checks or money orders only.) Zumba classes will hold two sessions. Residents can choose one session, either Mondays (starting Monday, September 17th from 7pm to 8pm) or Wednesdays (beginning Wednesday September 19th from 7:45pm to 8:45pm). Pilates classes will hold three sessions. Residents can choose one session, either Mondays (starting Monday, September 17th from 8pm to 9pm), Wednesdays (beginning

Bartilucci Manhattan College Scholarship to Raymond DeSimone of Carle Place, New York.
