Overdose Awareness Day Bike Ride Supervisor Joseph Saladino announced that the Town of Oyster Bay is partnering with Drug Free Long Island, Bikers Against Heroin and Nassau County for a Bike Ride from Syosset/ Woodbury Park to TOBAY Beach in recognition of National Overdoes Awareness Day. The Bike Ride will take place on Friday, August 30th with motorcyclists invited to ride from Syosset/ Woodbury Community Park down to TOBAY Beach, at which a special ceremony will be held in memory of those who have lost friends and family to overdose. Supervisor Saladino stated, “It is so important that we work to unite our community to educate, advocate, and empower to raise awareness against the deadly effects of heroin and remember our loved ones who lost their lives to the opioid epidemic. I am proud to partner with

Drug Free Long Island, Bikers Against Heroin, and Nassau County for this event, which truly helps shine a light on this ongoing issue effecting our communities.” Motorcyclists are invited to gather at 5:00pm at SyossetWoodbury Community Park, from where they will depart at 5:30pm for TOBAY Beach, which is located on Ocean Parkway, just east of Jones Beach. A special ceremony of remembrance will then commence at 6:15pm at the beach. Drug Free Long Island will supply a large dreamcatcher in which residents can place a picture of a loved one lost and/or card in their memory. The Social Brain is a brand new 501(c)(3) non profit in the state of New York. They are on the brink of breaking through as one of the most unique and helpful organizations that serves those suffering from a brain injury. Their mission is to provide brain injury survivors the opportunity to build friendships through socialization and reduced isolation. This organization began in January 2019 when a group of individuals, families and professionals joined together to brainstorm ideas of how they can help brain injury survivors socialize and partake in various hobbies together. Many survivors spend much of their lives in and out of rehab and home feeling isolated, but The Social Brain formed to change that. After hosting various events for survivors such as a day at Sweetbriar Nature Center, a Bowling Event, a Library Day and an afternoon at Four Star Ranch, it was obvious that they were reaching a population in need. Just last month, The Social Brain was granted 501(c)(3) status in the state of New York and they have just started working out of a community center located at 202 Middle Country Road in Middle Island. The Social Brain operates solely on volunteers and their outreach comes not only from word of mouth, but from help through their recent partnerships with local hospitals, school districts, neurology

departments, Peconic Speech Services in Riverhead and St. Joseph’s College. Survivors from all over Long Island are welcome to get involved with The Social Brain. On average, each event they host has about 30-40 participates and there is no age restrictions. The Social Brain would like to thank all who came out to the Basket Night Fundraiser on Friday, August 16th. They raised $2,600 and received another $900 in corporate donations! Additionally, they just wrapped up their East End 4-Week Social Skills Sessions. These were successful and helped children and young adults from Patchogue to as far east as Sag Harbor. They completed fun projects and encouraged a team approach to complete each week’s classes. They would like to give a special thanks to Peconic Speech Services of Riverhead for collaborating with their organization to host these classes. Keep your eye out for another set of classes coming during this upcoming school year. It is worth a visit by every American family, regardless of their ethnicity, because this is the story of all of us.”

On Labor Day Weekend, Saturday, August 31st and Sunday, September 1st between 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., The Museum of American Armor at Old Bethpage Village Restoration, 1303 Round Swamp Road, Old Bethpage, will present “Tanker Foes” that will see Allied and replica enemy armor used by combatants during World War II operate in the field. Recently added to the museum’s inventory are full size operational German replica armor meant to underscore the courage and sacrifice of American forces required to confront and defeat a well-armed and implacable foe some 75 years ago. The legendary Sherman tank and M18 Hellcat will face off against a German armor with an expected surprise visit of a replica Tiger tank, one of the most feared weapons on the World War II battlefield. Other armor in operation will include a Cold War U.S. M48 Patton tank, an amphibious U.S. Marine LVT Amtrac used to attack Japanese occupied islands,
