The Marty Lyons Foundation (MLF) recently hosted its 29th Annual Celebrity Golf Classic at the Old Westbury Golf and Country Club. The golf outing was the foundation’s largest fundraising event of the year. Hundreds of supporters played golf and attended the evening festivities. The Marty Lyons Foundation was founded by Marty Lyons, a former NFL defensive lineman for the New York Jets and member of the legendary “New York Sack Exchange.” The MLF grants wishes to children, between the ages of three and seventeen, who have terminal or lifethreatening illnesses, and is the only nonprofit in the nation to offer second wishes. The foundation’s Man of the Year, Bobby Cunningham, Jr., owner of Duct Cleaning Co., Inc., was saluted at the evening dinner. “Bobby Cunningham, Jr., is an individual the foundation “The Celebrity Golf Classic grows bigger each year. The foundation needs and appreciates the generosity of those who attend. All the members of our board and I welcome our supporters and thank the celebrity golfers. This is the 29th Classic and once again it has given us the perfect opportunity to interact with friends and foster support for our mission,” Lyons said. During the day golfers had the opportunity to challenge Lyons’ golfing skills at one special par 3 hole. The course was full of fun activities and food. Members of The New York Flight Crew Cheerleaders interacted with golfers who also enjoyed cigars from Davidoffof Geneva

NATIONAL HONOR - John Lantino, age 15, had the honor of competing in the AAU Tae Kwon Do National Championship early this month. The competition commenced on June 30th and ended July 5th. John won many matches in the 15-17 age division for Black Belt fighters. He received 2nd place, which qualifies him to compete at Team Trails in September for a spot on the National Team. John trains everyday at Champions Tae Kwon Do in Massapequa with his teammates and coach, Master Clinton Oh.
FIRST PLACE - Michael Lantino, age 11, just returned home from the 2014 AAU Tae Kwon Do National Championship in Ft. Lauderdale Florida. Michael won a gold medal in the 10-11 age division for Black Belt competitors. For the 10-11 year old athletes, this event served as Team Trials. By winning first place, Michael obtained a spot on the AAU Tae Kwon Do National Team. Like his older brother, Michael trains daily at Champions Tae Kwon Do in Massapequa under Master Clinton Oh.

Snapshots & Timehops By: Jamie Lynn Ryan At this time last year, I was in the midst of an eightday tour of Ireland with 13 members of my family. And today, thanks to the wonders of a clever little app called “Timehop,” I am able to relive each day of that memorable vacation via the handful of photos I posted on Facebook throughout the journey. And they say too much sharing is bad! Of course, this is but a small sampling of the nearly 1,000 pictures I snapped over the course of the week, from takeoff to landing and everything in between. Seeing as I
am slightly obsessed with finding random scenes and candid shots to capture on a daily basis, you can just imagine how thrilled I was to explore one of the most beautiful lands abroad. Under any circumstances, it qualified one of the greatest experiences of my life. Coupled with the fact that it marked my first time on a plane and my first journey out of the country, well, that just added to the highlight reel. Considering that, prior to this, I had never ventured beyond the span of states between Vermont and Virginia, it was quite a momentous occasion. This past Christmas, I
attempted to compile just a “few” favorites to create calendars and a small book of the journey as gifts. Seemed like a simple enough task; however, four hours after my initial brainstorm, I was still sitting at my computer, poring over hundreds of photos, comparing and eliminating until I had it narrowed down to the “perfect” mix. As if there was such a thing. The perfection is in the moments you create, the unplanned, unstaged instants that bring to life stories and anecdotes to last a lifetime. We could all use a few more of those.

Symposium Set The Town of Oyster Bay Sports Commission (TOBSC) will host another presentation of its TOBSC Symposium Series, this one focusing on Signs, Symptoms and Treatment of Concussions on Tuesday, August 12th at 7 p.m. at the Hicksville Athletic Center, located at 167 S. Broadway in Hicksville. The program will be led by TOBSC Board Member William J. Schwarz, P.T, P.C. and provide invaluable information to all attendees. Dr. Schwarz, who played Division 1 lacrosse for Villanova University and oversees Pro Sports Care of Long Island, located in Massapequa, is well known and highly respected in the field of sports-related physical therapy. He is often sought out by the area’s top athletes. This symposium one of an ongoing series of free forums scheduled and sponsored by the TOBSC. “This symposium is

Golf Outing Fundraiser On July 14th, Alzheimer’s Disease Resource Center, Inc. held its fourth annual Col. Kenneth F. Lawlor Memorial Golf Outing at the Huntington Country Club. More than 130 participants took part in the event, which raised approximately $130,000 for Alzheimer’s Disease research and care. While on the links, golfers also had the chance to win a car in the Hyundai HoleIn-One Challenge. After a round of golf, they enjoyed a cocktail hour, dinner and a chance to win raffle and silent auction prizes. Participants were welcomed by the President of the Neuwirth Foundation who spoke about her family’s vision for ADRC and how
ADRC continually works to ensure that vision. This year’s honoree, Ron Eagar, CPA, CCIFP, Partner, Grassi & Co., has become a renowned advisor in many industries, including real estate, construction, wholesale distribution, transportation, and not-forprofits. He uses his wide range of knowledge to assist not-for-profits through the strenuous process of Sarbanes-Oxley compliance. Special Ceremony Greetings in more than 40 different languages were spoken as adult students prepared to receive certificates in a variety of courses at the annual awards ceremony for the Nassau BOCES Adult Learning Center (ALC). “Our students are incredibly proud of their individual performances,” said Patrick Silvestri, Assistant Principal of Adult Education. “It is a very personal journey and accomplishment for each participant, and they are happy to celebrate their
individual achievements together at this ceremony.” Eight-hundred students from over 40 countries received certificates honoring their achievement in English speaking, listening, reading and writing skills, with some earning their High School Equivalency Diploma (HSE), and others passing the citizenship exam. Students also receive career training and hone specific skills that they will use in the work place. As part of the ceremony, students sang “Brave” by Sara Bareilles. The
lyrics, “Say what you wanna say and let the words fall out, honestly I wanna see you be brave,” show how the ALC helps students find their voice in the community and the courage to continue their education. Rosibel Shahin, originally from El Salvador, attended the Nassau BOCES ALC to learn English. “I now hold the highest position of National Sales Director at Mary Kay,” says Shahin. “Thank you Nassau BOCES!”
