Badminton will feature two sessions for registrants to choose from. The first session consists of Tuesdays from 8:45 PM to 10:05 PM, Fridays from 8:45 PM to 10:05 PM, and Sundays from 6:10 PM to 8:10 PM. Session 2 consists of Tuesdays from 10:15 PM to 11:35 PM, Fridays from 10:15 PM to 11:35 PM, and Sundays from 8:30 PM to 10:30 PM. The Badminton program is 10-weeks long and costs $75 for residents and $100 for non-residents, with the program scheduled to begin on July 10. Volleyball will be split into two different sessions. The first

The second session will take place on Mondays from 10:15 PM to 11:35 PM, Wednesdays from 10:15 PM to 11:35 PM, and Saturdays from 8:20 PM to 10:20 PM. The volleyball program is 10-weeks long, costs $75 for residents and $100 for non-residents, and is scheduled to begin on July 11. Summer Swim Lessons Registration Available Online Oyster Bay Town Councilman Tom Hand recently announced that registration for the Town’s summer swim lessons will take place online beginning Tuesday, May 31st at 9:00 am on the Town’s website at www.oysterbaytown.com/ parks. Swim lessons are available at all Town pools (Syosset-Woodbury Park, Plainview-Old Bethpage Park, Bethpage Community Park and Marjorie Post Park) for children ages 5 and older. “Because we live in a Town sandwiched between the Long Island Sound

and the Atlantic Ocean, it is extremely important that children in the Town of Oyster Bay learn how to swim,” said Councilman Hand. “Our swim lessons have been a hugely popular program for many years as children learn how to safely enjoy fun in the pool under the guidance of our American Red Cross certified lifeguards.” There are four two-week sessions throughout the summer. Classes are run on weekdays at 11:15 am and 12:15 pm for 45 minutes each. The registration fee

is $55 per child for the first two-week session with a season pass. If the same child signs up for additional two-week sessions, the fee will be $30 per subsequent two-week session. For those without a season pass the registration fee is $75 per child for the first two-week session and $50 per subsequent two-week session. Ed and Brooke Attard own the Learning Experience Centers located in Ronkonkoma, Massapequa and Plainview. In appreciation of the fundraising efforts of Brooke and Ed Attard, Suffolk County Legislators Trish Bergin and Rob Trotta presented Brooke Attard with a proclamation at her Ronkonkoma Learning Experience Center. to learn, be active and to interact with one another. The Attard family believes in giving back to the community they serve. They recently held a fundraiser at their three locations to grant wishes through the Make a Wish Foundation to three critically ill children. Their three Long Island based centers raised over $15,000 for the organization. “I think it is great that they raised so much money in a month and I commend them for their efforts and

good work,” said Suffolk County Legislator Rob Trotta. “The Make a Wish Foundation is a great organization and benefits so many children,” added Trotta. “The Attard’s demonstrate the meaning of community. Working alongside the “Make a Wish Foundation” is extraordinary and they definitely made an impact on those children’s lives,” stated Legislator Bergin.

Receiver Pravato Advises Late School Taxpayers Of Last Chance To assist property owners who missed the May 10th deadline for paying their 2021-2022 school taxes, Oyster Bay Town Receiver of Taxes Jeffrey Pravato reminds residents they can still pay the bill by June 1st with a State-mandated 2% late payment penalty while avoiding additional interest and fees from accruing on their property. Late payers should immediately contact the Tax Receiver Pravato’s office at (516) 624-6400 if they did not receive a

second notification with a delinquent tax bill. Payments postmarked after May 31st cannot be accepted since the collection warrant will have expired. Those payments must be sent to the Nassau County Treasurer at 1 West Street, Mineola, New York 11501. In September, the Nassau County Treasurer will be mailing notices to all property owners with taxes in arrears. Receiver Pravato advises homeowners who fall

under those circumstances to contact the Nassau County Treasurer at (516) 571-2090 to determine the amount due. They may also visit the Nassau County Treasurer’s Office at 1 West Street in Mineola. Receiver Pravato noted, “Taxpayers in New York State are already paying some of the highest property taxes in the nation, and I want to make sure that our residents do not pay more out of pocket than they have to.”

Oyster Bay Town Councilwoman Vicki Walsh invites residents to take part in Summer Athletic Programs for basketball, badminton, and volleyball, beginning on July 10th at the Hicksville Athletic Center. Based in Patchogue, EOC of Suffolk is dedicated to promoting selfsufﬁciency among low-income families and individuals. Its programming largely centers on revitalizing communities, broadening the minds of children and assisting families in need.

One of this non-proﬁt’s programs that serves people in Suffolk County and Nassau County is called Chronic Health Care Coordination. Managed by program director Delmarie Gotti, Chronic Health Care Coordination supports individuals with such chronic illness as HIV/AIDS, mental health-related conditions, heart disease, diabetes, asthma and hepatitis C. It also serves populations with obesity, substance abuse problems, sickle cell disease and other long-term conditions.

Because of their circumstances, and because of the day-to-day life challenges many participants face, it’s often difﬁcult for them to maintain a proper focus on the management of their chronic health needs. Many are jobless and many lack an adequate supply of food. Some are homeless or have lacked proper housing for years.

participants are receiving the necessary care to stay healthy and to stay out of emergency rooms and hospitals. EOC of Suffolk team members help their clients “navigate the system.” They can assist with the filing of applications for various forms of public assistance. They may help connect participants with food pantries and help arrange assistance through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, formerly known as food stamps. Additionally, a support team from EOC of Suffolk can help clients find housing and even help arrange for the services of a moving company. If clients are grappling with behavioral or mental health issues, EOC staffers can help them get proper professional assistance. They’ll help participants get past possible stigmas often associated with mental illness. The EOC of Suffolk team can assist by lining up such support as therapeutic assistance, group therapy and medications. While individual care plans vary from client to client, the most common, long-term goal of the Chronic Health Care Coordination program is to help participants manage their personal health care needs, stabilize their lives, become independent and find work. Clients who achieve these goals “graduate” from the program, ready to move on with their lives on a firm foundation. Options For Community Living’s 40th Anniversary Ruby Gala And Casino Night Honored Dale Cole And Brian Rooney Options for Community Living, Inc. recently celebrated its 40th Anniversary with a Gala and Casino Night at the Heritage Club in Bethpage. The event acknowledged honorees Dale Cole, Newsday/ Newsday Charities, and Brian Rooney, Mutual of America as well as the retirement of founding board member, Michael McClain. Two-hundred people attended the event, which raised over $75,000 for Options’ programs which help vulnerable Long Islanders live independently in the community. Yolanda Robano-Gross, CEO at Options for Community Living, Inc. introduced the evening by acknowledging the challenges of the last two years and recognizing Options employees for their commitment to the mission. “It has been my privilege, particularly these last two years, to lead and be part of the most caring, compassionate, and strong group of individuals that we call Team Options. Over 200 strong, our team worked tirelessly to ensure the safety, dignity, and care of more than 2,400 men, women, and children across Nassau and Suffolk Counties,” remarked Ms. Robano-Gross. Options recognized honoree, Dale Cole, Community Affairs Project Manager for Newsday, and the driving force behind Newsday Charities which provides vital support to local nonprofits. “Dale has impacted countless lives through her work,” stated Yolanda Robano-Gross. “Options has been the grateful recipient of support provided through Newsday Charities for many years, and we are thankful for Newsday’s efforts to activate Long Islanders in support of our communities most vulnerable residents.”

I applaud you all.” Options also recognized the contributions of honoree Brian Rooney, Senior Vice President, Mutual of America, and active supporter of area nonprofit organizations. “While Brian lends his support to multiple organizations, he is special to us,” said Yolanda Robano-Gross. “He recognizes the needs of nonprofit organizations and acts – by volunteering and through financial support. He believes in giving back

I feel privileged to have him in our corner.” In his acceptance speech, Brian Rooney credited his parents with “teaching him the right thing to do,” and acknowledged the staff at Options for Community Living, for their compassion and kindness. Addressing the audience Brian said, “This is why I am so proud to support Options and the amazing work accomplished by their employees.” The Gala also celebrated retiring founding board member Michael McClain who encouraged everyone to “remain vigilant” as advocates for those in need of assistance, and a moving testimonial was provided by Options’ employee Michele M. Michele is a resident in Options’ supportive housing and works as a peer specialist helping support others in their recovery from mental illness. Sharing her life

Tau Herculid Meteor Shower Viewing At State Parks The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation is pleased to announce that several Long Island State Parks will remain open during the nighttime hours for viewing of the Tau Herculid Meteor Shower on the evening of Monday, May 30 into predawn hours of Tuesday, May 31, 2022.
