Nassau County Executive Laura Curran was joined by District Attorney Madeline Singas, Nassau County Administrative Judge, the Hon. Norman St. George and others to announce that the Nassau County Courthouse at 262 Old Country Rd. in Mineola was added to the National Register of Historic Places. Planned by the federal Public Works Administration as a Depression-era infrastructure project between 1938 and 1940, the Nassau County Courthouse has been the centerpiece of the Nassau County Court campus for 80 years. “It gives me great pride that this incredible structure has earned its place on the list of historic places and I thank Dan Looney, deputy executive assistant district attorney for his decades of diligent research that led to this recognition,” said County Executive Curran. “Justice requires constant maintenance, so do her courthouses – and this recognition not only highlights this historic gem but could lead to funding that will help preserve its history for another 80 years to come.” “When the Nassau County Courthouse was constructed in 1940 it was regal, state of the art and created a sense of civic pride,” District Attorney Singas said. “Today, it’s our turn to bring this building back to its majestic beginnings. Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Saladino, Town Councilman Lou Imbroto and Town Clerk Rich LaMarca proudly partnered with Long Island Cares for their 10th Annual Legislative Pet Food Drive, which took place over the last few weeks. The drive
focused on collecting food for our residents’ pets through Baxter’s Pet Pantry, which supplies free pet food and supplies to pet-owning families in need in Nassau and Suffolk Counties. Supervisor Saladino and Town officials were honored for

On Saturday, May 1st, residents can take part in the S.T.O.P. program, where they can bring various hazardous materials to the complex between the hours of 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. “Improperly disposing of products such as waste

Contractors For Kids (CFK) is a non-profit organization, which was founded for the purpose of providing assistance to families in Long Island communities. Their goal is to assist children and their families overcome obstacles that have unfortunately changed or have impacted their lives through the sickness, injury or death of a child. They are committed to this cause and want to give hope and reassurance for the futures of Long Islanders. CFK was founded in 2005 by Kevin Harney and Alan Nahmias of Stalco Construction. Kevin and Alan, both long-time philanthropists, saw the growing need for financial assistance in our communities and knew that something more needed to be done. Through random acts of kindness, they were slowly changing the lives of others, however they thirsted to make more change so they decided to form this non-profit, Contractors For Kids. Their organization runs on donations only and is volunteer based, they have no employees. One family at a time, they make sure that the financial hardship brought on by sickness, injury or death does not destroy an already hurting family. Whether it is to pay a phone bill or a mortgage payment, they want to be there to help. Since 2005, CFK has given out more than 3 MILLION DOLLARS to help local Long Islanders. Sama” is an intimate and epic journey into the female experience of war. The film chronicles the stirring true story of filmmaker and activist Waad al-Kateab, who kept her camera rolling through five years of the brutal uprising in her home of Aleppo, Syria. Waad captures the deeply personal events in her life – falling in love, getting married, and giving birth to her daughter Sama – all while devastating conflict engulfs the city
around her. The film presents vivid tales of love, loss and survival as Waad struggles to decide whether to flee the war-torn city with her young family or stay and continue the fight for freedom. Thirty-four Syosset students won an overall 117 awards in the 2021 Scholastic Arts and Writing Awards Regional Competition. Students were awarded Gold Keys, Silver Keys and Honorable Mentions for their art and writing pieces submitted in 28 categories. Gold Key pieces are automatically considered for National awards, which will be announced in March. Many of Syosset’s students received numerous individual awards over multiple categories, with several students earning awards in both art and writing categories. Junior Caroline Zhu and Sophomore Sabrina Guo each earned an impressive
listing of awards in the Art and Writing divisions, respectively. Caroline earned a total of 14 awards for her submissions in Art, including three Gold Keys, seven Silver Keys and three Honorable Mentions. Sabrina earned a total of 23 awards that included five Gold Keys, two Silver Keys and 15 Honorable Mentions in Writing and one Gold Key in Art. The Bethpage Bytes Compete In High School Hackathon The Bethpage Bytes, a team of eight student coders from Bethpage High School, set up a command center in the Bethpage Administration Building to compete in the high school level KidOyo Code Conquest: Dragon’s Realm Hackathon on April 9. A hackathon is a timed event in which teams compete
against one another in coding challenges. Typically, school districts throughout Long Island gather to participate in a hackathon, but due to health and safety guidelines the schools competed virtually. The Bethpage Bytes were required to bring together different skills in creative
ways to conquer territories against competitors, using a variety of different coding languages and platforms. The team tied for fifth place in the competition and was supported and trained by Director of Technology Andrew Choi, computer literacy teacher Leon LaSpina and technology teacher Daniel Zabell.

Oyster Bay Town Councilwoman Laura Maier invites residents to submit photos taken in the Town of Oyster Bay to be considered for use in Town publications. “Our residents recently received their 2021 Town calendar, which is filled with photos submitted throughout the year depicting people, places, community events and scenery throughout our Town,” said Councilwoman
Maier. “We accept photos for the calendar, as well as other Town publications, including our website and brochures.” Councilwoman Maier noted that photos should be taken within the confines of the Town of Oyster Bay. Digital submissions are preferred, but highquality photos may also be submitted. Emailed photos should be sent to photos@ oysterbay-ny.gov. Printed photos can be submitted
to the Town’s Public Information Office, 54 Audrey Avenue, Oyster Bay NY 11771. Residents should make sure their name, address, phone number and brief description of the photo are included with their submission. The photographer is responsible for the correct spelling of the names and subjects in the photos, as well as notifying subjects they may appear in a Town publication.
Syosset High School’s DECA Students Qualify for International Conference Syosset High School’s DECA club brought home a total of 120 medals at the 2021 State Career Conference. This impressive total includes 12 First Place medals, nine Second Place medals, four Third Place medals, two Fourth Place and one Fifth place medal. 54 members qualified to compete at the 2021 DECA Virtual International Career Development Conference (ICDC) to be held in April. They will be competing against over 20,000 from around the world in their respective events.
In addition to the club’s success, rising senior Max Falkove was elected to the New York State DECA Executive Board, where he will serve as Vice President for Communications for the 2021-22 academic year, and Syosset’s DECA Advisor Glenn Baumann was recognized as Advisor of the Month by the DECA Executive Council. Students Brian Gao, Emma Goetz, Jake Greenberg, Kevin Jose, Andrew Moon, Irene Park, Maiya Raghu and Aayush Turakhia were inducted into the New York DECA Honor Society as students
who uphold academic excellence and showcase positive character, leadership, and service through their involvement with New York DECA. DECA is a studentcentered organization that prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in high school and college for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality, and management. Students compete in regional challenges throughout the year leading up to the State conference. The ICDC is the culminating conference of the DECA year.
