Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino recently announced that the Town, in partnership with Drug Free Long Island and the Nassau County Police Department (NCPD), will host a ‘Shed the Meds’ event at Marjorie Post Park in Massapequa on Saturday, April 17th from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. “The Town of Oyster Bay is proud to partner with Drug Free LI and the Nassau County Police Department on this important initiative to keep prescription drugs out of the wrong hands,” said Supervisor Saladino. “Through proper disposal of old medications, we can prevent them from contaminating the environment through improper disposal and also keep them out of the hands of young people.” The event will take place at Marjorie Post Park (off Unqua Road in Massapequa), in the parking lot near the community center. Contractors For Kids (CFK) is a non-profit organization, which was founded for the purpose of providing assistance to families in Long Island communities. Their goal is to assist children and their families overcome obstacles that have unfortunately changed or have impacted their lives through the sickness, injury or death of a child. They are committed to this cause and want to give hope and reassurance for the futures of Long Islanders. CFK was founded in 2005 by Kevin Harney and Alan Nahmias of Stalco Construction. Kevin and Alan, both long-time philanthropists, saw the growing need for financial assistance in our communities and knew that something more needed to be done. Through random acts of kindness, they were slowly changing the lives of others, however they thirsted to make more change so they decided to form this non-profit, Contractors For Kids. The Board of Directors, members, supporters and volunteers of CFK are all “Contractors For Kids.” They are all helping others and building futures for children and their families in need. Their organization runs on donations only and is volunteer based, they have no employees. One family at a time, they make sure that the financial hardship brought on by sickness, injury or death does not destroy an already hurting family. Whether it is to pay a phone bill or a mortgage payment, they want to be there to help. So how do you qualify to get help? It’s quite simple. If you can prove that you are struggling financially because of the sickness, injury or death of a child, you live on Long Island (in Nassau or Suffolk County), and you have filled out their Application For Assistance, they will get in touch with you to see how they can be of help! Pravato Reminds Residents Second Half School Taxes Due

Town of Oyster Bay Receiver of Taxes Jeffrey Pravato reminds Town residents that the Second Half of the 2020-2021 School Tax Levy was due on April 1st, but can be paid without penalty through May 10th. “New York State Law allows my office to provide taxpayers with a 40 day penalty free period from the date the tax is due during which payment may be made without penalty,” Receiver Pravato explained. “After the 40 days, State Law requires a one percent penalty be added for each month the tax remains unpaid, retroactive to November 1st for the first half payment and April 1st for the second half payment. Don’t delay, make your payment before May 10th to ensure you aren’t paying more out of pocket than you need to.” Receiver Pravato continued, “During this public health crisis, the Tax Office has been

fully operational but has suspended in office interactions. Sarah Grace Foundation To Host Virtual 5K Race provide an email address for their race bibs as well as a street address in order to receive their medals. Proof of finishing all 3.1 miles is not required to receive the medal, but the Foundation is encouraging all participants to share photos form their virtual 5k with the hashtag #HugsForSarah5k. Participants can begin the race any time after registration, but must share their completion efforts prior to May 31. The Sarah Grace Foundation is named in honor of Sarah Grace Weippert, who lost her nine-month battle with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia in November 2002 at 12 years old. A 5K race equals 3.1 miles, and this year, Sarah would have turned 31 years old on March 31, so join Matt, Marissa, and James Weippert as they run the 3.1 for Sarah and all children with cancer in the #HugsForSarah5k. All proceeds from the race

will support the programs and activities of The Sarah Grace Foundation for Children With Cancer, an all-volunteer organization. Core programs include The Escape Hatch, Gabe’s Chemo Duck, The Bead Program, Sarah Grace’s Book Angels and holiday toy distributions. The Foundation also provides financial aid for families, including; meals, transportation, household expenses and funeral expenses. The program will operate June 3rd through August 11th. Funds have been granted to the Town by the Oyster Bay-North HempsteadGlen Cove Workforce Development Board. This internship program offers college students the

ability to gain worksite specific knowledge, learn departmental procedures, assist with general office duties and reports, develop an understanding of worksite specific projects and apply the knowledge gained to benefit the Town of Oyster Bay. The Vaxmobile was financed with federal CARES Act funding that was distributed to Hempstead Town, to be used to assist town businesses, organizations and residents impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The Town of Hempstead has allocated more than a million dollars to Mount Sinai South Nassau during the pandemic to secure this mobile unit, as well as for COVID-19 testing and helping to reimburse unbudgeted expenses over the past year. The Town of Hempstead and Mount Sinai South Nassau are in direct contact with community leaders to schedule vaccination visits that are conveniently located. Such locations include faith-based organizations, libraries, recreation centers, senior centers, parks and train stations. Organizations or centers interested in scheduling a potential visit for eligible residents or who need more information may reach out to the Town of Hempstead by calling (516) 812-3678 or may send an email to Va x M o b i l e @ s n c h . o r g . Additional information about the mobile unit and its schedule will be posted

All vaccines administered by the Vaxmobile are by appointment only and residents must be eligible as determined by the New York State Department of Health. The mobile vaccination unit is handicappedaccessible, and is staffed by a bi-lingual clinical team from Mount Sinai South Nassau. The interior of the unit includes a private exam room, computerized clinical workstations, medical testing and lab technologies and secure storage areas. Hospital is on-hand and available should any rare complications arise from a COVID-19 vaccination. At the current time, Mount Sinai South Nassau has safely administered over 10,000 vaccines at its site in Rockville Centre. “Be on the lookout for the Vaxmobile coming to a neighborhood near you!” concluded Clavin. “We are excited to work with Mount Sinai South Nassau to expand on this program and vaccinate more and more Hempstead Town residents.”

In what might be called a perfect example of “Do It Yourself” ingenuity, individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities are now running their own food delivery service that assists people like themselves living in group residences and those who live at home with their families. The program, called FREEPOD was formed by Family Residences and Essential Enterprises, Inc. (FREE) during the COVID-19 pandemic crisis when food delivery services were often difficult, if not impossible to come by. “In response to the challenge of getting food and supplies in a timely manner to our residences and to ease the burden on our Direct Support Professionals (DSPs), FREE launched its own in-house FREEPOD food and supplies delivery service,” Robert S. Budd, CEO, FREE. “It’s been challenging to get groceries delivered. FREE-POD delivers doorto-door food and other essential household items

Rob Melnick, Assistant Vice President, Community Services, said that the national average of unemployment for people with disabilities remains over three times that of the population without disabilities. “This has certainly been complicated by the COVID-19 crisis, making it that much more difficult for individuals with disabilities especially those who lack practical job knowledge or employment experiences,” said Melnick. “The training program will provide over 60 differentlyabled citizens with the skills set necessary to secure employment in the food industry.”

Summer Clinics At Spirit’s Promise Equine Rescue Spirit’s Promise Equine Rescue is offering Summer Clinics every week from Monday, June 28 through Monday, August 30. During the clinic children will learn the ins and outs of a working horse rescue and will help groom, feed

and care for the horses and other animals on the farm. Cost is $45 per day for members or $65 for non-members. The clinics will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for children in grades 1 – 7. A “Leader in Training” program is available
