Oyster Bay Harbor Boat Moorings Available Oyster Bay Town Councilwoman Vicki Walsh reminds residents interested in mooring their boats on the beautiful north shore to contact the Town’s Department of Environmental Resources to obtain one of the 700 moorings offered just off the shore of the marina, located at Theodore

Roosevelt Memorial Park in Oyster Bay. “Our beautiful Town boasts water on both its north and south shores, making boating a popular activity for our residents,” said Councilwoman Walsh. “Our pristine harbor has convenient moorings for boating enthusiasts who are looking to access

Oyster Bay Town Councilman Tom Hand announces that Yard Waste collection will resume the week of Monday, April 5th, for homeowners who receive Town collection services. Yard waste is picked up on the same day as recycled materials, including plastics, metals and cardboard. “With the spring season upon us, many residents will begin clearing their properties from leaves and other debris left behind by winter,” said Councilman Hand. “Yard waste collection, which includes lawn clippings, will get underway the first full week in April.” Residents should place yard waste curbside on their same day as their recycling items. Yard waste is collected by Town sanitation crews and taken to compost facilities. Waste includes grass clippings, weeds, leaves, tree trimmings, hedge and shrub clippings and other garden/yard waste. Materials should be placed in bags at the curb, and should weigh no more than 50 pounds. No household garbage, refuse or animal waste should be disposed with yard waste. “Collecting Yard Waste is an important component to our recycling program,” added Councilman Hand. “One of the prime benefits of recycling yard waste is that the cost to take these materials to a compost facility is less than the cost to dispose of them at an out-ofstate landfill. This successful program is another example of the Town’s commitment to providing high quality environmental services while protecting our taxpayers’ wallets.” For more information on the Town’s recycling program, or other sanitation services, visit www.OysterBayTown.com/ recycling.

h e Twilight Wish Foundation is a 501(c) (3) non-proﬁt organization whose mission is to honor and enrich the lives of seniors through intergenerational Twilight Wish celebrations. Since the organization’s founding in 2003, their goal has been to make the world a nicer place to age, one Twilight Wish at a time. When a Twilight Wish is granted, a senior is recognized for all that they have done throughout their lives and is shown that they are appreciated and valued. Did you know that senior citizens are the fastest growing population in the world? The number of Americans 65 and older is projected to more than double to over 98 million by 2060. To date, the Twilight Wish Foundation has granted over 3,700 wishes throughout our country! These wishes have ranged from simple needs wishes, such as shaving razors for nursing home veterans, to living life to the fullest wishes, such as going cross country in a tractor trailer truck. Recently, many Long Island residents had their wishes come true. Below is a story about Michael, a Plainview resident. Michael wished for a record player and vinyl records. The Twilight Wish Foundation happily granted his wish, and as far as the records go, he received two of his favorites! Michael had worked in insurance and took an early train into the city every morning, returning home late at night. By the time he retired, he was ready for senior living accommodations. However, retirement did not stop his desire to volunteer. Prepandemic he worked closely to help people who were lower functioning/ had dementia. During the pandemic,

Sarah Grace Foundation To Host Virtual 5K Race The Sarah Grace Foundation for Children With Cancer, Inc. is calling all runners, walkers, cyclists and wheelchair athletes for its first ever virtual 5K. Participants in the “Hugs for Sarah 2021 Virtual 5K” can run alone, with a friend or with a team, and all entrants will receive a custom race bib and medal. Registration will take place from April 1 to 30 with an entrance fee of $35. Participants can sign up on the Foundation’s website, https:// thesarahgracefoundation. org/shop-donate/ “These are difficult times for many families, especially those of children with cancer,” said Matt Weippert, president of the Foundation. “In the absence of in-person fundraising events, virtual events such as this become more critical in helping fulfill the Sarah Grace Mission: providing smiles to children with cancer, one child at a time!” All participants must provide an email address for their race bibs as well as a street address in order to receive their medals. Proof of finishing all 3.1 miles is not required to receive the medal, but the Foundation is encouraging all participants to share photos form their virtual 5k with the hashtag #HugsForSarah5k. All proceeds from the race will support the programs and activities of The Sarah Grace Foundation for Children With Cancer, an

all-volunteer organization. Core programs include The Escape Hatch, Gabe’s Chemo Duck, The Bead Program, Sarah Grace’s Book Angels and holiday toy distributions. Every day hardworking women bring about positive change, which helps make the world a better place. These are the women to honor and reflect upon this month! As we wrap up Women’s History Month, we chose a few women to feature who truly make a difference

right here on Long Island.

Rhonda Klch is the Executive Director and Founder of Equity First, which was formed in 2004. This organization provides financial education, literacy and best practices to the community at low or no cost. Financial decisions are based on emotional scenarios, often times leading to clients making poor choices and decisions in regards to their future. Equity First creates and implements an approved client plan until the desired result is achieved. Their programs include money management, budget reviews, financial well check, credit restoration, debt settlement, bankruptcy consulting, loss mitigation services and more. Each service is paired with ongoing consultations to ensure a thorough understanding of timelines, expectations and benchmarks. Rhonda and her team are making an incredible impact in the Long Island community. In addition to financially assisting others, during the pandemic they have also given locals in need food, gift cards, personal hygiene products and more.

Lisa Gatti is the Founder and CEO of Pal-O-Mine Equestrian and the mother of her 13 year old daughter, who is the pride and joy of her life. Her passion for horses and teaching began at a very young age. In college, she was the captain of the equestrian team and she graduated with a dual degree in Elementary and Special Education. She has supplemented her education throughout the years by taking other educational programs. In 1996 and 2000, Lisa was named as US Team Leader for the US Equestrian Paralympic Team in Atlanta, Georgia and Sydney, Australia. From 2008-2013 Lisa served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of EAGALA, the global standard for equine assisted psychotherapy and personal development. In 2015, Lisa was named to the Board of Autism Communities. Most recently in 2019, she was appointed to the Town of Islip Disability Advisory Committee to help local government identify the most crucial issues facing our special needs population. She was honored with the 2020 Woman of Distinction and Distinguished Service Award from The Town of Islip, is a current finalist for the Imagine Awards for the Leadership Excellence Category and just received the 2021 Circle Of Excellence Award from the Long Island Business News. Throughout the pandemic, she still sees the greatness around her everyday and believes that when we see it in others, we know it, and when we trust its presence in ourselves, we embody it.

Eileen Scanlon has been a NYS Licensed Cosmetologist for 30 years. She has worked with Corporate America, Non Profits, Academia and local grass-roots organizations. Ten years ago, she started Scanlon’s Traveling Salon. This heart centered business helps seniors, the home confined and vulnerable, Hospice, group homes, assisted living communities, those that are differently abled, and virtually everyone in between, look and feel better. Scanlon’s Traveling Salon brings hair services directly to their client’s residence and Eileen’s goal has always been to provide each and every one of her clients with a warm, positive, and empathetic experience before, during and after each visit. Also, Eileen incorporates her love of social justice and advocacy into her business practice by using only socially responsible, vegan and environmentally friendly products. Scanlon’s Traveling Salon provides kindness, compassion and professionalism to people all over Long Island. Eileen’s motto is “A smile is the closest distance between two people.”

In the 1640s, the Halsey family began farming in the Water Mill and Bridgehampton area. Today, their family farm tradition continues as Milk Pail Fresh Market & U-Pick, which is run by both Amy and Jennifer Halsey. Both Amy and Jennifer received agricultural educations and returned to the farm after college. Amy manages the retail store, helps design gardens, custom designs planters and more. Jenn is on the farm growing the crops. She once had even been named New York Young Farmer of the Year by the New York State Farm Bureau and proudly represented her state at the national finals held in Texas. At their farm they grow apples, peaches, pumpkins, blueberries, pears and table grapes. Many value-added products are made from their produce, including fresh apple cider, apple cider donuts, apple and pumpkin pies and more. With the help of their dedicated staff, this family farm continues many traditions, while also trying new ideas to grow the business! Running a farm is no easy task, but Amy and Jennifer make it seem so! Visit their farm for a great experience on the East End.

Offers Members and Non-Members Free Virtual Tax Filing Assistance for 2021

Bethpage Federal Credit Union will help low-to-moderate income households prepare their tax returns by offering its Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) free tax filing services online for the first time. Now, in its 18th year, the program is open to all eligible Long Islanders, including non-Bethpage members. Now through Thursday, April 8, 2021, trained and bilingual tax preparers will be available to assist eligible taxpayers with 2020 incomes of $57,000 and below, via pre-scheduled Zoom appointments. York State to provide free virtual workshops where taxpayers can utilize online software to file their own taxes. Volunteers from NYS will guide registrants step-by-step to prepare and e-file Federal and NYS income tax returns. We’ve also been working closely with the IRS to head up an

education program to help other organizations across Long Island go online as well. While most continue to struggle with COVID concerns, safety is our number one priority.” Bethpage has secured over 50 trained volunteers from Adelphi University, Long Island University, Molloy College, and New York Institute of Technology, who will work one-on-one virtually with tax payers to prepare the returns. Bethpage VITA volunteers will also educate eligible working families about the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) while preparing tax returns. The EITC is an anti-poverty program available to four out of five eligible Long

In 2020, Bethpage completed 1,341 VITA tax returns and helped secure IRS total refunds of over $1,700,000. Bethpage also helped secure $163,419 in child tax credits in 202O,

and $425,256 in Earned Income Tax Credits. Since the program’s inception in 2004, over 24,266 individuals have filed their tax returns through Bethpage, resulting in $26,552,294 million returned to the Long Island community. Qualifying taxpayers planning to take advantage of Bethpage’s VITA program must bring the following materials with them for review: photo identification, social security cards for you, your spouse, and dependents, current year’s tax package if you received one, wage and earnings statement(s) Form W-2, W-2G, 1099-R from all employers, interest and dividend statements from banks (Forms 1099), a copy of last year’s Federal and State returns if available, bank routing and account numbers for tax refund direct deposit, total paid for daycare, and provider’s tax ID.
