Simple Ways To Be Good To Yourself Years ago, I was roaming the aisles of Costco and picked up a book, titled, 101 Simple Ways to Be Good To Yourself by Donna Watson Ph.D. I’ve been re-reading it ever since. As we grow older and our responsibilities mount, we lose touch with our own needs. Children, spouses, jobs (second jobs), mortgages, car payments, friends in need…the list is endless. The weekdays bleed into each other in a frenetic blur, and on weekends we can barely catch up on sleep, catch our breath and take the kids to their weekend activities. Sometimes “adulting” can make you want to cry “Uncle.” Most likely, you’re running on fumes. If your battle cry of the moment is, “Stop the ride, I wanna get off!” a few small adjustments can recharge a burnt out battery. There are plenty of simple ways to be good to you, which will, in turn, help you be good to others. BREATHE. Wherever you are, whatever you are doing, stop right there and breathe. Breathe out all of the air in your body through your mouth. Count to four and
then breathe in through your nose, filling up your abdomen (not your chest). Hold for four seconds. Then, slowly let the air leak out through your mouth as your belly deflates. Repeat. LAUGH. Make YouTube your friend. I personally love the television show, All In The Family. When I need a good laugh, I cue up a full episode on YouTube and laugh myself silly. Laughing is good for the soul. LISTEN. Nothing soothes me like Jazz music. Did you know that brain surgeons play their favorite music in the operating room to take the pressure off? Sometimes, in order to do your best, you have to actually place your attention elsewhere to remain centered and focused. WALK. Take a walk in nature. Walk briskly, look at the grass, the trees and the sky. Breathe in the crisp air, feel your body move and your heart rate slightly increase. Feel your muscles working to move your body. SPEND TIME WITH ANIMALS. If you have a dog or a cat, spend time cuddling and petting your
animal companion. Really take in their energy. If you don’t live with any animals, consider spending time at a dog park to be around animals, or at a local horse stable. Spending time around animals is healing. TAKE A LESSON. You don’t have to make a commitment, time-wise or financially. You can simply take a lesson or two for fun. It will bring a sense of play and adventure to your life. Do it by yourself, or bring a friend or family member along. TAKE A MINI-BREAK. Look for Groupons or off-season deals for short weekend getaways that are within driving distance, and change your environment for 48 hours...or 24 hours if you must. MASSAGE. Everywhere you go now, there are massage and nail spas. Carve out 30 minutes and go for a shoulder rub or a relaxing foot rub... just because. These are just a few of the simple things you can do to be good to yourself. Being good to yourself is like saving money in the bank. You can then spread the wealth to the ones you love.

February’s Charity of the Month is: Paws of War
“Helping Both Ends of The Leash” Paws of War is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that trains and places shelter dogs to serve and provide independence to our U.S. military Veterans who suffer from the emotional effects of war. In turn, each Veteran can experience the therapeutic and unconditional love that only a companion animal can bring! Since 2014, Paws of War has supported over 100 Veterans with service dogs rescued from kill shelters. The Paws of War Service Dog Program relies heavily on the support of their community and volunteers. Through this program they are able to provide service dogs and their training to Veterans in need at no cost, truly providing them with a miracle! A service dog can help combat the daily symptoms of PTSD. They are trained to pick up stress signals and intervene with their owner to direct their focus back to a positive environment. They can also greatly increase the quality of life for someone suffering from Traumatic Brain Injury. Paws of War trains service dogs to combat the daily issues that someone suffering from TBI has. Each service dog given out is intensely trained before handed off to the Veteran. The lives of many American Heroes have been changed forever because of what this organization has done for them!
Below is a list of more services that Paws of War offers to Veterans in addition to their Service Dog Program: •

Therapy Dog Program - This is a volunteer based program in which certified Therapy Dogs are brought to visit individuals that would benefit from a dog, but unfortunately cannot have one at the time being. War Torn Pups Program - This program has brought back dogs from Afghanistan, Syria and Jordan that Service Members have found while out on tour. Community Education Program - This program allows Paws of War to work with members of their local community. Through this program, they are able to provide a direct connection between Veterans and the younger population. Vets to Vets Medical RV - This mobile RV provides certain medical services for service animals at no cost to Veterans!
Paws of War is growing and has been recognized by national leaders, national press and some of the larger sporting franchises have even partnered with them to sponsor a dog. The men and women that this organization provides services for have dedicated their lives to serving our great country, and Paws of War strives to help them in every way possible! PRAAT is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that was incorporated in 1993 as a community
service project of the Patchogue Rotary Club. Veterinarian Dr. David Roy Hensen founded this
organization with a belief in the therapeutic potential of dogs! PRAAT screens, trains and eval-
uates all dog-handler teams (the volunteer and their dog). Upon a successful completion of the
PRAAT dog-handler team training, teams become eligible to make visits at over 150 of their contracted and insured facilities across Long Island. PRAAT also runs a Doggie Reading Club. This
program is designed to encourage children to improve confidence with their reading skills, while

The Levittown Chamber of Commerce, at its annual Installation of Officers and Directors, honored several community members for their service to the Chamber and the community. Donald Patane was recognized with the President’s Award for the assistance he offered to outgoing President Joan Lynch, who succeeded him as president in 2016. Lynch thanked him for the advice and consistent reliability he provided. The Levittown Public Library, Levittown Historical Society, and Deejay/Attorney Timothy Aldridge were honored for their Outstanding Community Service. Levittown Library Director Trina Reed accepted on the library’s behalf and, Bob Koenig, vice president of the Historical Society for that organization. Aldridge is well known for his interest in and generosity
in providing deejay services throughout the communities of Levittown and Island Trees. The Chamber recognized Thomas DiIorio as Citizen of the Year. DiIorio is President of the Lions Club of Levittown and active in American Legion Post 1711 and VFW Post 9592. His military service and his service to the veterans’ organizations and the Chamber were cited as the grounds for the recognition given. Nassau County Legislator Thomas McKevitt, Town of Hempstead Councilman Dennis Dunne, Sr. and Chamber of Commerce Office Manager Tara Cassano were presented with Special Appreciation Awards: McKevitt and Dunne for their commitment and service to the county and town; Cassano for her exceptional quality of service to the chamber. For her 25 years of
service to the Chamber of Commerce, Louise Cassano was recognized with the Distinguished Service Award. Now a director and chair of several committees, Louise served as president of the Chamber in 2004 and 2005. On a solemn note, the evening’s honors began with presentations to the families of Lois Cornibert and Eric Rosenblum, who passed away during last year. Accepting Lois’ award was her husband Gary, their son Gary and his wife Danielle. Accepting for Eric was his companion Gail Montello. It is considered of one the most poisonous snakes in the world and is found in several countries around the globe. If you think about it, not only is this the habit of this reptile but it also applies to bullies who have the same reaction once they feel threatened by an outside force. Bullies are present around the world and while they don’t make a hissing sound when angry, it’s easy to notice how their facial expression turns into a grimace. Celebrating the Year of the Pig Kindergarten students at the Bethpage Union Free School District’s Charles Campagne Elementary School were treated to a special assembly on January 23rd, thanks to a parent volunteer that shared details about the upcoming Chinese New Year, also known as the Lunar New Year. The Chinese New Year officially begins on Feruary 5th to symbolize the change to the Year of the Pig, one of the 12 zodiac animals celebrated
in the Chinese culture. District parent Anna Chan along with her daughters, kindergarten student Lauren Chan and second-grader Alanna Chan, led the kindergarten classes in lessons and activities surrounding the celebration. Mrs. Chan showcased various decorations and common attire worn during the traditional ceremonies and activities. Following a discussion about the different ways to celebrate, Mrs. Chan and her daughters taught
the students how to create a paper fish with a red envelope. The color red symbolizes good luck and the envelopes are presented at social and family gatherings. The assembly concluded with the explanation of the 12 zodiac animals and the order in which they are celebrated. Principal Erin LindsayDiFiglia thanks Mrs. Chan and her daughters for educating the kindergarten students on the culture of the Chinese New Year.

Easy Vegan Pasta Bolognese By Marilyn Porzio of Dix Hills, New York
What You Will Need
1/2 cup diced portobello mushrooms 1/2 cup sweet green peas 1 24 oz. jar of Ragu Traditional Pasta Sauce (no sugar added variety) 2 tablespoons red wine 1 pinch of salt 1 pinch of black pepper 1 sprinkle of turmeric 1/4 package of Smart Ground meatless soy crumbles 2 heaping tablespoons dairy-free butter substitute 1 box of your favorite pasta
How To Make It Melt butter substitute in a large or medium sized skillet and add in Smart Ground soy crumbles. Mash up and turn crumbles as they brown (about 4 minutes). Turn off heat and set aside.
Pour jar of pasta sauce into a medium or large saucepan, turn on medium heat and stir in diced mushrooms and cooked soy crumbles. Let sauce simmer and then add in tumeric, salt, pepper and red wine; stire altogether, turn heat to low and cover tightly to re-simmer. Boil water and cook pasta for approximately 10 minutes until al dente. (soft, but slightly firm). Rinse and drain pasta and set aside. Steam peas in the microwave or 2-3 minutes and stir peas into sauce. Remove covered sauce from heat. Plate pasta, pour sauce over pasta and enjoy!

ACLD Raises Nearly $300K Since hosting its annual Enviable Life Ball in late 2018 at The Garden City Hotel, Bethpageheadquartered Adults and Children with Learning and Developmental Disabilities, Inc. (ACLD) announced that it has raised a total of $290,000 in support of programs and services for adults and children with autism, learning and other developmental disabilities. ACLD’s fundraising initiatives to support the Gala concluded in January 2019. Part of ACLD’s mission is to provide the opportunities for people with disabilities to pursue enviable lives and increase their independence. NBC4 New York Traffic Reporter Lauren Scala served as emcee of the Gala for the fourth year, and guests were entertained with live music performed
by Skyline Orchestra’s Code Bleu. The Bethpage High School Jazz Combo performed live during cocktail hour. More than 300 people attended, making this ACLD’s largest event of the year. Founded in 1957, ACLD is a 501(c)(3), notfor-profit agency whose mission is to provide opportunities to more than 3,000 children and adults with autism, learning and developmental disabilities to pursue enviable lives, promote independence and foster supportive relationships within the community. ACLD employs more than 1,300 people and operates more than 87 different program sites including community residences and apartment programs across Nassau and Suffolk Counties. Services include early childhood services, day habilitation, residential alternatives, vocational training and job placement, recreation programs, respite, family support services, and occupational, speech and physical therapies. TERMS OF SALE Such tax liens shall be sold subject to any and all superior tax liens of sovereignties and other municipalities and to all claims of record which the County may have thereon and subject to the provisions of the Federal and State Soldier’s and Sailors’ Civil Relief Acts. However, such tax liens shall have priority over the County’s Differential Interest Lien, representing the excess, if any, of the interest and penalty borne at the maximum rate over the interest and penalty borne at the rate at which the lien is purchased. The Purchaser acknowledges that the tax lien(s) sold pursuant to these Terms of Sale may be subject to pending bankruptcy proceedings and/or may become subject to such proceedings which may be commenced during the period in which a lien is held by a successful bidder or the assignee of same, which may modify a Purchaser’s rights with respect to the lien(s) the property securing same. Such bankruptcy proceedings shall not affect the validity of the tax lien. In addition to being subject to pending bankruptcy proceedings and/or the Federal and State Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Civil Relief Acts, said purchaser’s right of foreclosure may be affected by the Financial Institutions Reform, Recovery and Enforcement Act (FIRREA), 12 U.S.C. ss 1811 et. seq., with regard to real property under Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) receivership. The County Treasurer reserves the right, without further notice and at any time, to withdraw from sale any of the parcels of land or premises herein listed. The rate of interest and penalty which any person purchases the tax lien shall be established by his bid. Each purchaser, immediately after the sale thereof, shall pay to the County Treasurer ten per cent of the amount from which the tax liens have been sold and the remaining ninety per cent within thirty days after such sale. If the purchaser at the tax sale shall fail to pay the remaining ninety per cent within ten days after he has been notified by the County Treasurer that the certificates of sale are ready for delivery, then all deposited with the County Treasurer including but not limited to the ten per cent theretofore paid by him shall, without further notice or demand, be irrevocably forfeited by the purchaser and shall be retained by the County Treasurer as liquidated damages and the agreement to purchase be of no further effect. Time is of the essence in this sale. This sale is held pursuant to the Nassau County Administrative Code and interested parties are referred to such Code for additional information as to terms of sale, rights of purchasers, maximum rates of interest and other legal incidents of the sale.
