FCA has served Long Islanders since 1884 and today its more than 40 programs fall into five big areas of need: Addiction Prevention, Treatment & Recovery Taking on addiction from every angle, beginning with prevention. Recovery support services are offered Islandwide with offices from Hempstead to Westhampton Beach. Children’s Mental Health & Wellness This division offers an array of services and supports designed to promote the health and wellness of children and their families. The services are for individuals up to 21 years of age who have or are at risk of developing a mental health diagnosis. Services are always free to clients, voluntary, family-driven, strength-based, and culturally competent, with location and scheduling tailored to each family’s needs. They also provide support for the families of individuals with mental and/ or behavioral health issues. Prevention & Family Support FCA’s prevention team provides critical services to at-risk children and families including a nursery co-op program,
Residential Care FCA operates four residences that focus on quality care, seamless transitions and well-managed aftercare services for youth. Nassau Haven and Walkabout provide emergency shelter and longer term transitional housing for homeless, runaway and trafficked youth. Two other residences support children and young adults with serious emotional disturbances or mental health issues. Senior & Adult Services FCA believes that every senior deserves to live with dignity, safety and independence. FCA helps more than 10,000 seniors a year with meal deliveries, caregiver support, home visits for companionship, elder abuse prevention and advocacy. The number of people who turn to FCA for help is growing and with it, the need for donations to close gaps in government funding. FCA’s programs and services are greatly enhanced by the involvement of others, whether through donations of time or money, and welcome the help of all Long Islanders to further its mission. TERMS OF SALE Such tax liens shall be sold subject to any and all superior tax liens of sovereignties and other municipalities and to all claims of record which the County may have thereon and subject to the provisions of the Federal and State Soldier’s and Sailors’ Civil Relief Acts. However, such tax liens shall have priority over the County’s Differential Interest Lien, representing the excess, if any, of the interest and penalty borne at the maximum rate over the interest and penalty borne at the rate at which the lien is purchased. The Purchaser acknowledges that the tax lien(s) sold pursuant to these Terms of Sale may be subject to pending bankruptcy proceedings and/or may become subject to such proceedings which may be commenced during the period in which a lien is held by a successful bidder or the assignee of same, which may modify a Purchaser’s rights with respect to the lien(s) the property securing same. Such bankruptcy proceedings shall not affect the validity of the tax lien. In addition to being subject to pending bankruptcy proceedings and/or the Federal and State Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Civil Relief Acts, said purchaser’s right of foreclosure may be affected by the Financial Institutions Reform, Recovery and Enforcement Act (FIRREA), 12 U.S.C. ss 1811 et. seq., with regard to real property under Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) receivership. The County Treasurer reserves the right, without further notice and at any time, to withdraw from sale any of the parcels of land or premises herein listed. The rate of interest and penalty which any person purchases the tax lien shall be established by his bid. Each purchaser, immediately after the sale thereof, shall pay to the County Treasurer ten per cent of the amount from which the tax liens have been sold and the remaining ninety per cent within thirty days after such sale. If the purchaser at the tax sale shall fail to pay the remaining ninety per cent within ten days after he has been notified by the County Treasurer that thecertificates of sale are ready for delivery, then all deposited with the County Treasurer

The bids to be placed by the Bidder will be made in good faith and not pursuant to any direct or indirect, agreement or discussion with, or inducement from, any other bidder to submit a complementary or other noncompetitive bid. 4. If it is determined that the bidder(s) have violated any of these bid requirements then their bid shall be voided and if they were the successful bidder the lien and any deposits made, in connection with, said bid shall be forfeited. He also said it was a special moment to receive a bowling pin from his coach, which marked his perfect game. “I was finally able to take it all in and celebrate with my team,” Lunetto said. “It was great being able to leave a legacy behind. Winning the conference was one of my goals, so this just fulfills all of the dreams that I had coming into the season.”

To ring in the Chinese New Year of the Tiger, Supervisor Joseph Saladino and members of the Town Board invite residents to attend the Town’s first ever Chinese New Year Celebration at Town Hall. Held in partnership with the South Asian Advisory Board and numerous ChineseAmerican Community Groups, the event will feature traditional Chinese decorations, cuisines, and cultural rituals, in addition to a presentation from leaders of the ChineseAmerican Community. “The Chinese New Year ability and a demonstrated interest in China. Selected students engage in college-level instruction with Stanford University professors, leading scholars from top-tier colleges and universities, and former diplomats. Students will explore key issues in contemporary China including politics, economics, social issues culture and the arts. The course will offer them a rare degree of expertise about China and its relationship with the United States.
Syosset High School student Ethan Chiu has been selected to participate in the Stanford Program on International and Cross-Cultural Education’s China Scholar Program (CSP) for Spring of 2022. The CSP, which focuses on international and crosscultural education, only selects 20 high school students nation-wide to participate in a onesemester, intensive study of contemporary China. Free Property Tax Assessment Grievance Workshop Town of Oyster Bay Receiver of Taxes Jeffrey Pravato will host a free Property Tax Assessment Grievance Workshop for residents looking to acquire information on how to challenge their 2023-2024 property tax assessments. The workshop will be held in-person on Tuesday, February 15th, at 10am at Oyster Bay Town Hall, located at 54 Audrey Avenue in Oyster Bay. “While Nassau County determines your value, we in Town government want to make sure you know that you have a right as a homeowner to challenge your assessment. Remember, your assessment can only be lowered as the result of a challenge – it can never be raised – and this workshop helps you challenge for free,” said Receiver of Taxes Pravato. “If you are a homeowner who disagrees with the assessed value of your property, I invite you to attend this Property Tax Assessment Workshop, as the property tax grievance deadline of
March 1 is approaching.” In January, Nassau County notified residents of their home’s tentative assessed value for the 2023/2024 school tax period and the 2024 general tax period. Any residents who did not receive the notice may view it online at www.mynassauproperty. com or contact their County Legislator. At the workshop, Receiver of Taxes Pravato will answer questions and show residents how to use online tools to file an “Application for Correction of Assessment” online or via mail. There is no requirement to pay a law firm or agency to file a grievance. Autism And Children According to the National Autism Association, autism is a bio-neurological developmental disability that affects the normal development of the brain in various areas. Those areas include social interaction, communication skills and cognitive function. Autism generally appears before a child reaches his or her third birthday, and the NAA notes it is diagnosed four times as often in boys than it is in girls. Roughly 40 percent of children with autism do not speak, but parents whose children speak between the ages of
12 and 18 months should know that such youngsters can still ultimately be diagnosed with autism. In such instances, the NAA notes that children lose the words they previously learned. Incidences of autism appear to be on the rise, though the reasons for that remain unclear. According to a report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the prevalence of autism had risen to one in every 59 children by 2018. That’s twice as great as the rate in 2004, when the CDC reported one in 125 children were diagnosed with autism.

For sports fans who can’t wait to see the National Football League crown a new champion, the game itself is a must-watch event.
For those who aren’t fans of the game, Super Bowl Sunday is still a chance to chow down and socialize with friends and family. There’s no right or wrong way to watch the Super Bowl, but some might consider a Super Bowl soiree without chicken wings a major faux
pas. For those who want to avoid such a misstep, this recipe for “Virgil’s Smoked Chicken Wings With Blue Cheese Dip” from Neal Corman’s “Virgil’s Barbecue Road Trip Cookbook” (St. Martin’s Press) is sure to please.
Virgil’s Smoked Chicken Wings With Blue Cheese Dip Serves 4 Blue Cheese Dip 2 cups blue cheese crumbles, divided 1 cup mayonnaise 1⁄2 cup buttermilk 2 teaspoons hot sauce 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce 1⁄2 teaspoon kosher salt 1⁄4 cup finely chopped scallions 1⁄4 cup finely chopped celery Marinade 1⁄2 cup vegetable oil 1⁄2 cup hot sauce 4 tablespoons Virgil’s Dry Rub (see below) 1. To make the dip, combine 1 cup of the blue cheese, mayonnaise, buttermilk, hot sauce, Worcestershire sauce, and salt in the bowl of a food processor and blend on low until smooth. 2. Remove to a medium mixing bowl and fold in the rest of the blue cheese, scallions and celery, being sure to break up the larger blue cheese crumbles. Place in a covered container and refrigerate overnight. 3. Mix all the marinade ingredients in a large mixing bowl. Place the wings in a large container with a lid and pour the mixture over the wings. Toss until the wings are thoroughly coated. Cover and refrigerate for 2 days. 4. Preheat the grill or smoker to 245 F. 5. Spread out the wings on a sheet pan and wipe away any excess marinade. Sprinkle liberally with the dry rub, coating the wings all over. 6. Position the wings on the grill away from the direct heat of the coals or burners, and add hickory to the smoker or hickory

While the wings are cooking, cut the butter for the sauce into 1-inch cubes and refrigerate. Whisk the cornstarch into the white vinegar, in a small bowl. 9. In a medium sauté pan over medium heat, bring the hot sauce to a simmer and whisk in the thickened vinegar. Return to a simmer, cook for 1 minute, and remove from the heat. 1 cup granulated sugar 10. Add the cayenne and 1⁄2 cup Texas-style chili slowly whisk in the cold powder butter. Keep warm until 1⁄2 cup minced onion serving. 1⁄2 cup granulated garlic 11. Remove the wings 1⁄4 cup dried parsley from the smoker or grill flakes and put half of them into a 6 tablespoons kosher salt bowl, cover with the sauce, and toss. Repeat with the Combine all of the remaining wings and serve on a platter, with the blue ingredients in a medium bowl and whisk together cheese dip on the side. until completely incorporated. Transfer to a Virgil’s Dry Rub covered bowl with a tightMakes 5 to 51⁄2 cups fitting lid. Store in a cool, 2 1⁄2 cups sweet paprika dry place.
