Anyone is welcome to come and let a team member know how many dinners you need. Angels of Long Island is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization ran by Debbie and Brittany, a mother and daughter duo. They turned a small Facebook group into a fast growing non-profit organization that helps countless Long Islanders in need. Their non-profit continued to grow so much so that Debbie and Brittany decided to open up a storefront location in Patchogue called Angels of Long Island. Their slogan Neighbors helping neighbors is a great reflection of what this thriving thrift store/boutique/donation center does. “We work so hard to keep our store clean and beautiful so that all of our customers who walk through our doors feels a sense of dignity and respect shopping at our store,” says Debbie. “We are not like your average thrift store! We carry designer brands and offer a unique experience.” The mission of this non-profit is to assist and advocate for people in our Long Island community who are in need of assistance. Their goal is to empower people to overcome poverty and live prosperous lives. They truly provide a wide range of services and goods to people in crisis, however anyone can come shop at their Patchogue store, which has recently expanded, located at 350-23 East Main Street. The store is proud to take many types of donations. They now accept bottle and can donations every Monday-Saturday from 9AM-3PM, where you can simply pull up curbside, pop your trunk and a team member will take the donations for you. All bottles and cans must be marked New York state deposit and no broken glass bottles are able to be accepted. Please remember to separate glass items from plastic items before you donate them. Pickups at your residence are available for large quantities of recyclables. Additionally, they accept other donations, such as new or gently used clothing, housewares, home decor and

Five Syosset Students Named 2021 Regeneron Science Talent Scholars Five Syosset High School Students have been named 2021 Regeneron Science Talent Search (Regeneron STS) Scholars. Congratulations to Syosset High School seniors Aryan Ghotra, Maiya Raghu, Giselle Rasquinha, Isabella Souza, and Eric Wang. The Regeneron STS is the nation’s oldest and most prestigious pre-college science competition. These students were selected from 1,760 U.S. and international high school students who submitted original research in critically important scientific fields of study. They are among 300 students named Regeneron STS scholars and hope to be among 40 finalists named later this month. Each scholar will receive a $2,000 award with an additional $2,000 per scholar going to the high school to support STEM education. STS scholars are selected based on their exceptional research skills, commitment to academics, innovative thinking and promise as scientists. This year evaluators and judges also took into consideration the changes and adaptations students have had to face due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Superintendent of

GISELLE RASQUINHA Deferoxamine on Neuroblastoma,” was completed at SUNY Old Westbury under the direction of Dr. Wei Zhu studying neuroblastoma treatment. Eric studied neuroblastoma tumors, specifically focusing on the anti-metastasis and anti-cancer effects of the medication deferoxamine in combination with the naturally occurring Chinese herb extract oxymatrine. The 40 finalists in the competition, to be named on January 21, will undergo a rigorous judging process, interact with leading scientists, display their research for the public, meet with national leaders, and compete for more than $1.8 million in awards provided by Regeneron.

Meteorologists have many tools at their disposal to help forecast storms and other phenomena, but it is impossible to predict the weather with 100 percent accuracy. When the weather takes a turn for the worse, the National Weather Service may issue certain notices to prepare the public. Understanding the
level of threat a notice carries can help people take appropriate action and avoid serious consequences. The NWS uses a fourtier system to alert the public of hazards. Here’s a closer look at what each tier constitutes. Outlook This is the least serious weather alert. It usually means that hazardous weather may
approach in the next three to seven days. The public should monitor the situation and stay tuned for further updates. Advisory With an advisory, weather conditions are not overly serious but could prove inconvenient. Individuals should be cautious and prudent when preparing supplies
or traveling. Watch During a weather watch, there is an increased risk of a hazardous weather occurrence, though the timing or location is still uncertain. This is when it is essential to practice an evacuation or preparedness plan and stock up on any last-minute supplies.
Warning The most serious of the weather impact notifications, a warning constitutes an imminent or likely event. The weather may cause a threat to property or life. Immediate action to stay safe is necessary. While these alerts are based on the severity of impending weather, it is important to note that the NWS will not necessarily follow the
same timeline with issuing alerts. That depends on how fast a weather situation develops. If there is time, an advisory, then a watch and then a warning may be issued. However, if a storm moves in rapidly, only a warning may be issued. People always should pay attention to weather notices so they can be prepared should severe weather be in the forecast.

Oyster Bay Town Councilman Louis Imbroto recently announced that Session 2 of the Town’s 2021 Winter Youth Ice Hockey Program will begin on February 6th. This youth hockey program features hockey development, skill programs and a seasonend skills competition over the course of 10 weeks at the Town of Oyster Bay Ice Skating Center in Bethpage. The
program is open to girls and boys ages 6-16. “Youngsters enrolled in the Town’s Youth Ice Hockey program are given the great opportunity to improve their skating and hockey skills as part of a program that has earned recognition by the National Hockey League for its high level of quality,” said Councilman Imbroto. “The Town of Oyster Bay’s Youth Ice Hockey Program is among
the best around, with a dedicated coaching staff ready to teach this sport to the many boys and girls enrolled in our program.” Registration will take place at the Town of Oyster Bay Ice Skating Center in Bethpage on: • Wednesday, January 20th from 5pm - 8pm (residents only); • Thursday, January 21st from 5pm – 8pm (residents only); • Sunday, January 24th
from 8am – 12pm; and • Monday, January 25th from 5pm – 8pm. The Town of Oyster Bay Ice Skating Center is located at 1001 Stewart Avenue in Bethpage. Individuals interested in registering for the 2021 Winter Youth Ice Hockey Program must bring a copy of their birth certificate, proof of Town of Oyster Bay residency (tax or utility bill) as well as payment. Check,
money order, MasterCard or Visa will be accepted. All registrants must bring these items, even if they have participated in the past. A parent or legal guardian must be present at registration. The program is held on Sunday mornings, and Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings. The registration fee is $150 for 10 weekly sessions. All participants must
