An apple a day may keep the doctor away, but a recent study found drinking tea might keep the cardiologist at bay. The USDA reported that men and women who drank black tea for three weeks reduced their total and bad cholesterol (LDL) levels by an average of 7.5 percent. Researchers concluded that drinking tea may reduce the
risk of coronary heart disease. Antioxidants called flavonoids, found in both green and black teas, are thought to be potent weapons in the fight against heart disease. That news may be especially important for women, given that heart disease kills more women than all forms of cancer combined including breast cancer.

The YMCA of Long Island is a leading nonprofit organization that works daily to improve lives through programs and services that nurture youth, foster healthy living and inspire social responsibility. Simply put, their mission is to improve the quality of life of children, adults and families through programs that develop body, mind and spirit. The Y of Long Island has many different branches: East Hampton, Patchogue, Holtsville, Huntington, Bay Shore and Glen Cove. They also run the Boulton Center for the Performing Arts in Bay Shore and the YMCA Family Services (a counseling center) in Holtsville. This January they kicked off their Annual Support Campaign, which provides scholarships to children, teens, adults, seniors and families in need. These scholarships provide access to the YMCA for membership, programs and services such as swim lessons, pre-school, before and after school, summer day camp, health and wellness programs and chronic disease prevention and recovery programs such as LIVESTRONG® at the YMCA for cancer survivors,

Night Fishing Parking Permits Now Available to Non-Residents Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino and the Town Board today announced that the Parks Department will begin to offer a night fishing parking permit to nonresidents, effective January 1, 2020. In order to obtain the permit, a non-resident must be sponsored by a current Town resident who has already obtained a night fishing permit. Supervisor Saladino stated, “As the popularity of night fishing on Long Island has continued to flourish, the Town’s will begin to offer a new, nonresident night fishing parking permit. This parking pass, which must be displayed on dashboards while parking in Town lots where night fishing is permitted, will allow nonresidents to night fish at four different locations in the Town of Oyster Bay throughout the year.” Non-residents will be able to obtain a night fishing parking pass by submitting a $50 fee and being sponsored by a current Town resident who has obtained a night fishing permit. Each resident with a current night fishing permit will be able to sponsor one non-resident, and will be
held responsible for the non-resident’s decorum while using Town facilities. Permits are available through the Town’s Parks Department, located at 977 Hicksville Road in Massapequa. Night fishing hours are 7pm to 7am at select facilities. Night fishing is permitted at the following locations throughout the Town, during the following dates: • January 1, 2020 through December 31, 2020 • Harry Tappen Beach in Glenwood Landing • Theodore Roosevelt Beach in Oyster Bay • Centre Island Beach in Bayville • April 2020 through December 2020 • TOBAY Beach Night fishing parking permit does not substitute any additional requirements of New York State in regards to night fishing. A Nike missile similar to those that defended Long Island during The Cold War gets a holiday wreath at the Museum of American Armor by Joey Ferrara, 8 years old, of Lindenhurst, with an assist from his father Joseph Ferrara. Ferrara was among the Atlantic Crane team that included Operating Engineers Local 138 and Teamsters Local 282 that donated time, expertise and equipment
to tow and install the Nike, as a permanent exhibit at the military museum inside Old Bethpage Village Restoration as a tribute to those who defended the region during the Cold War. Local 138 Business Manager and Treasury, John Duffy, stated, “We believe we have a solemn responsibility to pay tribute to those who have served our armed forces. This effort sustains that
commitment and allows us to salute those who defended our nation during the height of the Cold War.” The Museum of American Armor is a New York State chartered, 501 C 3, not for profit museum. Located at 1303 Round Swamp Road inside Old Bethpage Village Restoration, Old Bethpage, it is open Wednesday through Sunday, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
