He was found alone and struggling to move, but could wag his tail. The funds will be put to use providing him with the necessary medical technology needed to help him walk again, as well as help him receive the medical care he needs to recover from his other injuries, and be adopted out. Bam Bam will need a specialist in order to be able to walk again. During the medical exam, the MRI showed that Bam Bam sustained nerve damage. Even with that, Guardians of Rescue is optimistic that with the right medical care the

In a small town in Georgia, where they have no animal services available, a dog that has been named Bam Bam was found badly injured. He appeared to have been hit by a car and was left without medical care. Bam Bam sustained injuries that have left him paralyzed, but Guardians of Rescue have stepped up to take on the challenge of getting him the medical assistance that he needs to walk once again. They are asking for people in the community to chip in to help make it happen. “This poor dog was basically left to die after what looks like being hit by a car,” explains Robert Misseri, president of Guardians of Rescue, an animal rescue organization. “He struggles to try and move even the slightest bit and it’s heartbreaking to watch.

What has come since that group was formed is truly a miracle.” The mission of this non-profit is to assist and advocate for people in our Long Island community who are in need of assistance. Their goal is to empower people to overcome poverty and live prosperous lives. They truly provide a wide range of services and goods to people in crisis, however anyone can come shop at their Patchogue store, which is located at 350-23 East Main Street. Angels of Long Island typically holds many outreach events during the year such as a Back to School Drive, Thanksgiving Assistance, a Coat Drive, Christmas Help and more. However, due to the pandemic they aren’t holding all of these outreach events. Ones that are held are designed with safety in mind. This past December the charity held a huge Christmas Help outreach event, where many people in need were able to come to an outdoor event and children could choose up to five gifts along with grabbing hats, gloves and scarves. Then their entire family could choose from tasty food items to bring home for a Christmas meal, along with being able to shop for other food items to bring home. All of this was free of charge to the children and families who participated. There are many ways you can help out with Angels of Long Island and there is much more to write about. Sometimes the things we don’t expect and haven’t prepared for turn out to be the most lifechanging experiences. Angels of Long Island is a 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization that somewhat formed itself back in 2015. Debbie and Brittany, a mother and daughter duo turned a small Facebook group into a fast growing non-profit organization that helps countless Long Islanders in need. Six years ago these two ladies knew of someone in need of clothing and simply wanted to see if they could be of help. They decided to start a Facebook group in hopes of spreading the word and receiving donations for this person in need. They posted a message and went on with their day, later checking in to find themselves overwhelmed with the response. Whoever doubts that there aren’t people with good hearts that are willing to help a neighbor in need is wrong, fortunately! Debbie and Brittany named the Facebook group Angels of Long Island and members would post about ways they could help others in crisis on Long Island. The group continued to gain in momentum and members, so much so that Debbie and Brittany decided to open up a storefront location in Patchogue called Angels of Long Island. Their slogan Neighbors helping neighbors is a great reflection of what this thriving thrift store/boutique/ donation center does. “We work so hard to keep our store clean and beautiful so that all of our customers who walk through our doors feels a sense of dignity and respect shopping at our store,” says Debbie. “We are not like your average thrift store! We carry designer brands and offer a unique experience. I did not expect to be running a thriving non-profit organization that has a

Curran Hosts Virtual Kwanzaa Celebration
Nassau County Executive Laura Curran recently hosted the County’s official Kwanzaa celebration at the African American Museum of Nassau County in Hempstead. The virtual event, downsized due to COVID-19, consisted of remarks and reflections on the principles of Kwanzaa from County Executive Curran, Office of Minority Affairs Executive Director
Lionel Chitty, and Office of Minority Affairs intern, Xavier Bermudez. After the speaking portion of the event, Bermudez lit the kinara as County Executive Curran marked each of the seven principles of Kwanzaa. A centerpiece of African American history and culture on Long Island since 1970, the African American Museum of
Nassau County offers a rotating series of exhibits showcasing local and national AfricanAmerican artists. The African American Museum was granted the 2005 Museum Preservation Award by American Legacy magazine, one of only 10 museums to be honored for work done to preserve African-American history and culture.

Six Ways To Protect Your Mail And Packages (NAPSI)—Every day, the U.S. Postal Inspection Service works to protect your mail, USPS employees and USPS facilities. It’s just as important to it as it is to you that these items reach their destinations safely, and the Post Office could use your help to keep your mail and packages safe. Here are a few tips to consider: 1. Don’t leave your delivered mail and packages unattended. You wouldn’t leave important items sitting on the front seat of your unlocked car overnight. So don’t leave your mail and packages sitting in mailboxes or on front porches for any length of time. 2. Going out of town? Hold your mail at the Post Office. You can sign up for Hold Mail service on usps.com if you plan on
being away from home for a few days. Your letters and packages will be held securely at your Post Office until you pick them up or request they be delivered to your home. 3. Plan ahead. Ship using Hold for Pickup. If you are sending packages, you can choose the Hold for Pickup option on usps. com. The packages will be safely held at the recipient’s local Post Office until they can pick it up. If you are expecting a package, you can redirect it to your Post Office by selecting Hold for Pickup using Intercept a Package under Track & Manage on usps.com. 4. Customize the delivery. If you are expecting something you know will not fit in your mailbox and you won’t be home to receive it, you can authorize the carrier to leave it in a specified
location. Visit usps.com, enter the tracking number in Track a Package, and select Delivery Instructions. 5. Secure the shipment using USPS Special Services. Signature Confirmation helps ensure the package ends up in the right hands by requiring a first initial and last name at the time of delivery. For your most valuable packages, you can opt for Registered Mail service. Registered Mail receives special handling from the time it’s mailed until the time it’s delivered. 6. Monitor your front door. If you have a home security camera system, and you catch any mail thieves in the act, save the video and alert the Postal Inspectors. Bethpage BOE Adopts Bond Resolution Lee Avenue Elementary School And For School Facility Improvements; Community Give Back To Local Families

Lee Avenue Elementary School continued its annual partnership with the Hicksville Gardens Civic Association to benefit local families this holiday season. The association and Hicksville community members Chris Mirro and Nick Mirro hosted a toy drive. Toys were collected
and donated to eight families with children currently attending Lee Avenue, who could use a little extra help. Other than toys for all siblings, each family also received a $25 gift card to Target. The Mirros and the Hicksville Gardens Civic Association also hosted a
food drive for Lee Avenue families this November. Three families were able to receive food for the Thanksgiving holiday. The district is grateful for the community support in making the holiday season a little brighter for families.

Vote Set For Tuesday, Feb. 9
The Bethpage Union Free School District’s Board of Education adopted a resolution at its Dec. 15 meeting to present a taxneutral bond proposal to the greater community for vote on Tuesday, Feb. 9. The proposal calls for various infrastructure improvements throughout the district that were identified in the district’s five-year building condition survey. These include repairs to parking lots, sidewalks and flooring, as well as improvements to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act. A number of academic enhancements are also included in the proposal to continue the district’s expansion of innovative learning spaces for students. The proposal also calls for the addition of two STEM labs at JFK Middle School, which is the progression of earlier work done to improve STEM labs at the elementary level completed in a previous capital improvement project. Libraries at Bethpage High School, JFK Middle School, Central Boulevard
Elementary School and Charles Campagne Elementary School would be renovated to include stateof-the-art pilot classrooms. A variety of IT upgrades will also be completed, including refreshing SMART Boards throughout the district and improving cybersecurity. In addition, the proposal includes a number of athletic upgrades, including the renovation of the JFK athletic complex to include a multisport turf field with track and field events, as well as lighting to support evening use for practices. The renovated JFK athletic complex also includes basketball court improvements and the repositioning of the softball and baseball fields with turf infields. The turf field and scoreboard at Bethpage High School would also be replaced. The cost of the proposed bond that will be presented to voters is approximately $16.2 million. Planning for a capital project now will result in a tax neutral bond, as any new payments for the proposed work
would replace expiring debt payments. Therefore, no new tax revenue would be needed to support bond payments. There would be no additional tax impact if approved. The district will host a virtual community forum on Thursday, Jan. 28, at 7 p.m. to provide an overview of the proposal. Information on how to join the forum will be posted to the district’s website, www. bethpagecommunity.com, prior to the meeting. More detailed information on the proposal will be posted to the district’s website and will be sent to residents in the coming months. “The Board of Education and I look forward to sharing more information about the tax-neutral bond proposal with our community,” said Superintendent of Schools David Schneider. “I strongly believe that the balance of academic, athletic and basic infrastructure improvements will benefit current and future generations of Bethpage students.”

Friday, January 15th. “We all love the beauty of Christmas lights and trees during the holiday season. After the celebrations are over, it is important to discard the tree in a timely manner as Christmas trees can pose as a fire hazard, especially after drying out,” said

A smock and supplies will be provided with enrollment. Due to COVID-19, class enrollment will be limited to allow for proper social distancing and temperatures will be checked upon arrival. Masks must be worn by children and caregivers for the length of the class. Daily cleaning and sanitizing takes place prior to and after classes. Curran Joins Student-Run COVID Response Group for PPE Donation
CURRAN JOINS STUDENT-RUN COVID RESPONSE GROUP - Nassau County Executive Laura Curran was joined by members of LI Laboring Against COVID-19 (LILAC) and Legislator Debra Mule to donate personal protective equipment for medical staff at Mount Sinai South Nassau Hospital. Nassau County Executive Laura Curran was joined by members of LI Laboring Against COVID-19 (LILAC) and Legislator Debra Mule to donate personal protective equipment for medical staff at Mount Sinai South Nassau Hospital. The donation consisted of 14,000 three-ply masks, 4,000 KN95 masks, 200 isolation gowns, 2,000 PPE kits, and boxes of hand sanitizer. LILAC is a student-run organization founded by Syosset High
School student Sabrina Guo, 15. The organization has provided personal protective equipment and other forms of relief and support, such as lunch meals, for medical staff and frontline workers across Long Island since its founding in March. County Executive Curran also received a gift from LILAC founder Sabrina Guo, a drawing depicting the County Executive Curran as the subject of the “We Can Do, It” Nassau campaign logo. The “We Can Do
It, Nassau” campaign is a public awareness campaign promoting confidence in the United States vaccine effort, emphasizing themes of unity and patriotism, and the importance of vaccines to ensure schools return to normal and a strong economic recovery for the County. The campaign is a tribute to “Rosie The Riveter,” the cultural icon representing women who worked in factories and shipyards during World War II.
