SANTA, FROSTY AND RUDOLPH - The Levittown Fire Department provided transportation for Santa, Frosty and Rudolph, who lit the tree at the Levittown Chamber of Commerce Tree Lighting. Lane and Hempstead Turnpike. Performer, mostly young students from Levittown and Island Trees schools, and local music groups and dance studios, and their directors made last minute adjustments to performances they had been planning for months and, Cassano says, showed extreme professionalism. The event was emceed by Brimstone and the crew of Grindhouse Radio and refreshments were provided by Starbucks in Levittown and the Levittown Library. For the first time, this year, a food truck - Mama’s Cuban Kitchen – was on hand providing dinner selections for attendees. Santa and his friends, Frosty and Rudolph, arrived aboard a Levittown Fire Department fire truck and, after meeting and greeting the crowd indoors, despite the rain, paraded outside to lead the countdown to lighting the tree. Performers included Northside School’s 5th Grade Holiday Singers and Instrumental Group under the direction of teachers Isabella McClancy and Christopher Rispoli;
Xtreme Rhythm Dance Academy directed by Jessica Taylor; Secret bbq Band; 5,6,7,8 Dance Studio directed by Jennifer Gass; Holiday Cheer
Kidz of Neighborhood Entertainment Arts and Theater under the direction of teacher Watson Miller; and St. Bernard’s Singers led by MaryJane Witte.

Home For The Holidays Winners Each year, volunteers, along with family and friends, scout local regions in the area defined by the Levittown and Island Trees school districts searching for beautifully decorated homes they consider their favorites. The volunteers choose one as their top draw and those homes are recognized by the Levittown Community Council as Levittown’s best. This year in the northwest area of Levittown, the winner was the Ralph Votta of Horn Lane in Levittown. Bright white snowflakes and festive red and green lights adorn the carefully outlined home lighting up all of the neighborhood. In the southwest section, the Club Lane home of Larry Stevens took top honors. Stevens, along with his sons, Bill and John, are the decorators. Larry says he
started this Christmas tradition 25 years ago with two soldiers and a Santa and has added to the display each year since. Travel down Tailor Lane in Levittown and you’ll see a blowup sign asking Santa to stop along with friendly blow up signs of the holiday including a lamppost, a snowman, reindeer and an eager, not-so-little puppy ready to greet visitors. The home is that of the northeast region’s winner - the Foley family. In the southeast region, honors went to the Flynn Family of Parker Avenue in Plainedge. White lights and red ribbons frame the outline of the house in holiday brilliance. In 2014, the home was also selected as the first place winner in this region. Homes are not eligible to be selected again for five years after being named. Winners will be
introduced and recognized at the Levittown Community Council’s WinterFest held this year on February 8 at Levittown Hall. Each winner receives a check and a free oneyear membership in the Levittown Community Council. Judges for this year’s event included Ginny Isola and Pat McNerney in northwest section; Mary Kay Ross and Pat Patane in the southwest; Helene Heras in the northeast; and, Carol Klein and Diane Pedroza in the southeast section. The Levittown Community Council, was established in 1998 as a spinoff of Levittown’s 50th anniversary celebration the year prior. The Home for the Holidays contest was an anniversary event that has been carried forward since then by the Council.

John Theissen C h i l d r e n ’ s Foundation is a local non-profit that collects and distributes toys, provides hospitals and child-care facilities with therapeutic and recreational e q u i p m e n t , supports families with financial assistance to defray medical expenses, fulfills patient’s wishlists throughout the year (for those 18 years of age and younger) and assists sick and underpriviledged children in other ways that are needed. Of course this charity experiences their busy season in the midst of the holidays, receiving and distributing lots of gifts for those in need, however, they make a large impact

A Community Of Caring
Students and staff from Abbey Lane Elementary School in the Levittown Public Schools recently gave back to families in need within their school community. The school hosted its annual Thanksgiving food drive throughout the month of November where they collected food items to provide Abbey Lane
families who are facing hardships with a proper Thanksgiving meal. School social worker Lindsay Grand and nurse Karen Gallo helped organize the drive as staff members donated a turkey for each family and students brought in cans and boxes of food. The students quickly filled the donation box in the
school lobby. Members of Abbey Lane’s Get a Voice Club helped organize the donations into separate boxes for the families and wrote letters to wish each family a Happy Thanksgiving. Any leftover donations will be brought to Wisdom Lane Middle School’s food pantry for community members in need.

Reinhard Early Childhood Center student advisory council hosted the United Through Reading project, which provides service members separated from their families the opportunity to be video recorded while reading a book for their children.
