Halloween is a unique day each year when people gather together for parties, parades and of course, trick-ortreating. October 31 is a day that most children eagerly await each year because it means an opportunity to don a costume and come home with bags full of sweet treats. Merrick School Community Celebrates Grand Opening Of New Addition

Merrick School District Board of Education trustees, district administrators, teachers, students and PTA members gathered on Oct. 6 to celebrate the official unveiling of the new building addition at Chatterton Elementary School. The 5,800 square foot addition, approved by voters through the December 2016 bond referendum, provides a second multipurpose room for the school, as well as space for the school’s academic intervention services. These include occupational therapy, physical therapy, and reading and math interventions. Prior to the addition, academic intervention services were provided in an area of the building
that was never intended for instructional use. In addition, without the second multipurpose room, there were numerous logistical issues when special events, assemblies or PTA functions were taking place in the school. Currently, the multipurpose room is being utilized as a lunch room to aid in social distancing, as well as a mask break area. At the ribbon cutting ceremony, Board of Education President Dr. Nancy Kaplan thanked everyone who played a role in helping this project come to fruition. “We are gathered here today to witness history in the making,” she said. “This building will be around for a long time and many children, families and staff
will benefit from this new space!” Chatterton Elementary School Principal Dana Bermas added, “We’ve gained a tremendous new space at our school. We are so thankful to everyone for their support of this project, especially the Merrick community. Thank you for supporting our vision!” Superintendent of Schools Dr. Dominick Palma echoed those sentiments. “The Merrick community supported this project from the very beginning. Parents wanted improvements for their children and they made sure the project was successful. I thank everyone who played a role in making this a reality.”

A New Year Of Learning Begins After being away from school for months due to the pandemic and summer break, students from the Levittown Public Schools received a warm welcome back on Sept. 8. Although school will look different this year, students were still excited to return to their buildings to see their peers, meet their new teachers and fall into their new routines. With smiles behind their masks, students and staff entered their respective schools and had their temperatures checked. This is one of the many safety precautions that
the district is taking this school year to ensure the health and safety of everyone who enters the buildings. Among other safety measures, students and staff will follow guidelines such a proper social distancing, along with hand-washing and hand sanitizing. This year, Levittown students had the option of following a fully remote instructional model or return to school in some capacity. Primary students could return to in-person learning five days a week, while secondary students had the option of selecting
a hybrid model, following a schedule that alternates between virtual and inperson instructional days. “We are thrilled to welcome our students back and reconnect with them both in-person and virtually,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Tonie McDonald. “Although school may look different this year, the Levittown Public Schools will continue to provide students with a safe learning environment and opportunities that will lead to Success for Every Student.”

Hair loss is a life changing experience. Hair We Share is a non-profit organization started by Suzanne Chimera and Dean Riskin. Their goal is to make a positive difference in the lives of those suffering hair loss due to medical conditions. Hair We Share relies solely on donations, in the form of real-hair ponytails and monetary contributions. With these donations, they provide quality hair solutions at no cost to many men, women and children throughout the USA, however they are located right here on Long Island! Hair We Share is committed to changing lives.
