Hundreds of walkers, from brain aneurysm survivors to their families and supporters, are expected to attend Long Island’s 11th annual Brain Aneurysm Awareness Walk at Jones Beach State Park on Saturday, September 21. The fun-filled event, which includes a fourmile run and two-mile walk, is hosted by the Brain Aneurysm Center at Northwell Health’s Institute for Neurology and Neurosurgery, along with the Brain Aneurysm Foundation (BAF). Proceeds will benefit both organizations, raising funds to support essential research. “Thanks to hundreds of participants, we have raised $700,000 since the walk’s inception and it continues to grow steadily each year,” said David Chalif, MD, director of Northwell Health’s Brain Aneurysm Center. “It is a time for brain aneurysm survivors and their families to celebrate life and also a time to remember those who have lost a loved one to a brain aneurysm.” At this year’s walk, one of the guest speakers will

The Museum Of American Armor Presents “Tanker Foes” On Labor Day Weekend, Saturday, August 31st and Sunday, September 1st between 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., The Museum of American Armor at Old Bethpage Village Restoration, 1303 Round Swamp Road, Old Bethpage, will present “Tanker Foes” that will see Allied and replica enemy armor used by combatants during World War II operate in the field. Recently added to the museum’s inventory are full size operational German replica armor meant to underscore the courage and sacrifice of American forces required to confront and defeat a well-armed and implacable foe some 75 years ago. The legendary Sherman tank and M18 Hellcat will face off against a German armor with an expected surprise visit of a replica Tiger tank, one of the most feared weapons on the World War II battlefield. Other armor in operation will include a Cold War U.S. M48 Patton tank, an amphibious U.S. Marine LVT Amtrac used to attack Japanese occupied islands,

a British Bren Carrier and a broad range of other historic military vehicles. Mr. Lawrence Kadish, president and founder of Armor Museum, observed, “We have followed a strategy to present several replicas of enemy armor for the specific purpose of instructing thousands of visitors, especially school groups, that defeating tyranny requires courage, sacrifice and valor. Those who faced down enemy armor knew that their odds of finding a vulnerable part of a tank were small but they confronted it in the knowledge that the Nazis had to be defeated at all costs. These replicas will allow us to help tell that story.” History Channel’s Historian Emeritus Dr. Libby O’Connell said, “This museum is a unique commitment by public and private sectors to preserve and present a seminal chapter in the history of our nation... and our world. It is worth a visit by every American family, regardless of their ethnicity, because this is the story of all of us.”

Museum board member Michael Sapraicone, founder of Squad Security, explained, “The museum remains a compelling family destination, one that offers powerful insight into every family’s connection to our American heritage.” The program is made possible, in part, through the support of PSEG Long Island, Squad Security, Polimeni International, Bethpage Federal Credit Union, BDG, Ltd., Bristal Assisted Living, and the law firm of Rosenberg, Calica & Birney. departments, Peconic Speech Services in Riverhead and St. Joseph’s College. Survivors from all over Long Island are welcome to get involved with The Social Brain. On average, each event they host has about 30-40 participates and there is no age restrictions. The Social Brain would like to thank all who came out to the Basket Night Fundraiser on Friday, August 16th. They raised $2,600 and received another $900 in corporate donations! Additionally, they just wrapped up their East End 4-Week Social Skills Sessions. These were successful and helped children and young adults from Patchogue to as far east as Sag Harbor. They completed fun projects and encouraged a team approach to complete each week’s classes. They would like to give a special thanks to Peconic Speech Services of Riverhead for collaborating with their organization to host these classes. Keep your eye out for another set of classes coming during this upcoming school year. If you or someone you know is interested in learning more about or becoming involved with this organization, please contact them today.

The Social Brain is a brand new 501(c)(3) non profit in the state of New York. They are on the brink of breaking through as one of the most unique and helpful organizations that serves those suffering from a brain injury. Their mission is to provide brain injury survivors the opportunity to build friendships through socialization and reduced isolation. This organization began in January 2019 when a group of individuals, families and professionals joined together to brainstorm ideas of how they can help brain injury survivors socialize and partake in various hobbies together. Many survivors spend much of their lives in and out of rehab and home feeling isolated, but The Social Brain formed to change that. After hosting various events for survivors such as a day at Sweetbriar Nature Center, a Bowling Event, a Library Day and an afternoon at Four Star Ranch, it was obvious that they were reaching a population in need. Just last month, The Social Brain was granted 501(c)(3) status in the state of New York and they have just started working out of a community center located at 202 Middle Country Road in Middle Island. The Social Brain operates solely on volunteers and their outreach comes not only from word of mouth, but from help through their recent partnerships with local hospitals, school districts, neurology
