Bellmore-Merrick’s Flag Football Team Clinches Conference Championship After going undefeated in their regular season, the Bellmore-Merrick girls flag football team, the Chargers, clinched their conference championship. They are coached by Anthony Cracco, athletic director, physical education teacher and coach at Wellington C. Mepham High School and
teacher/coach Matthew Moody. Three student volunteers, Dom Casella, Dean Holtzman and Ryan Their also assist. “The community support and excitement for our team has been phenomenal. Next up is the semi-final playoff and county championship,” Cracco said.
The league was started with the help of the New York Jets, Nike and the New York State Public High School Athletic Association. The season lasts through May and a championship will be held at the Atlantic Health Jets Training Center in New Jersey.
Annual Jones Beach Volleyball Tournament
The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation is pleased to announce that they are hosting the 44th Annual Jones Beach Volleyball Tournament comprised of 6-player coed teams. This event will take place on Saturday, July 16, 2022 and will be held rain or shine. The tournament will begin at 9:00AM on the volleyball courts at Central Mall Field 4 at Jones Beach State Park. The first round of matches will be played as a round robin. All teams are guaranteed to play seven games. The top two teams from each round robin bracket will advance on to the quarterfinals which will decide the two final teams. With a collective 266 years of service to the North Bellmore School District, 13 retiring teachers and staff members were honored at the Board of Education meeting on June 9 and thanked for their commitment to the community’s children and families. Superintendent Marie Testa said they are “part of the fabric of North Bellmore” and probably had a greater impact on students than they ever realized. “When you work in a school and you do it well, it’s as much about your intellect as it is about your heart,” Ms. Testa said, before she introduced the retirees, who included teachers, specialists, office staff and cooks from all five
elementary schools as well as the district office. The retirees were celebrated by a large crowd that included their colleagues and family members, as well as North Bellmore students and parents. Administrators spoke about each retiring staff member and presented them with gifts. This year’s retirees are: Tom Steinmuller, physical education teacher at Saw Mill Road School, 31 years. The program is free and open to Nassau County residents. The ID cards
will be produced on site and available in minutes. No appointment is necessary. When a child goes missing, every moment is precious. Law enforcement needs accurate information and quickly. The Nassau County DA’s Operation Safe Child program provides parents with an identification card for their children containing pertinent
physical information to give law enforcement officials a head start on a missing child. Information on each card includes child’s name, birthdate, age, gender, hair and eye color, height and weight, fingerprints, and a highresolution digital photo. YES Community Counseling Center’s BRIDGES Program is hosting Transitioning to College, a FREE workshop for parents and graduating high school seniors transitioning to college this fall.
