SUM Coverage If you have had your current Auto insurance for two or more years, you may not be aware of your allowable SUM coverage. State law requires drivers to possess Liability insurance before they can put their car on the road. Liability insurance protects other drivers from a bad driver. This is often the most expensive portion of the policy premium. SUM coverage is Supplemental Uninsured/ Underinsured Motorist coverage. It protects you from drivers who have no insurance or too little insurance. It costs a fraction of what Liability coverage costs. Yet, many people, especially those with older policies, have less SUM coverage than they are allowed. Recently enacted state laws require insurance agents to explain to new customers, how much SUM they may purchase. If your SUM does not equal your Bodily Injury coverage, talk to a licensed agent.

Full coverage If your insurance agent ever told you, “Don’t worry. You have full coverage,” then it might be time to find a new agent. No two people will agree on what is meant by Full Coverage. Lack of an appropriate financial, or physical exam, will render your ‘full coverage’ leaving you largely exposed.

Assemblyman Durso Collecting Baby Formula

New York State Assemblyman Michael Durso, in coordination with Island Harvest Food Bank, is holding a baby formula collection drive to address the critical supply shortage and support parents in need across Long Island. Assemblyman Durso is asking residents and community organizations to kindly donate unexpired and unopened baby formula. All donated items will be distributed to parents in critical need throughout Nassau and Suffolk Counties through Island Harvest Food Bank’s emergency operations distribution unit.

“According to The Atlantic, 40 percent of formula is out of stock nationwide—a twentyfold increase since the first half of 2021, said Randi Shubin Dresner, President & CEO, Island Harvest Food Bank. “With the help of the Assemblyman Durso, Island Harvest is ready to mobilize to help parents find relief. All formula collected will be distributed to vulnerable populations in critical need across Long Island through our emergency operations distribution unit.” “With the nationwide baby formula shortage having a real impact on families across Long

Options For Community Living’s 40th Anniversary Ruby Gala And Casino Night Honored Dale Cole And Brian Rooney Options for Community Living, Inc. recently celebrated its 40th Anniversary with a Gala and Casino Night at the Heritage Club in Bethpage. The event acknowledged honorees Dale Cole, Newsday/ Newsday Charities, and Brian Rooney, Mutual of America as well as the retirement of founding board member, Michael McClain. Two-hundred people attended the event, which raised over $75,000 for Options’ programs which help vulnerable Long Islanders live independently in the community. Yolanda Robano-Gross, CEO at Options for Community Living, Inc. introduced the evening by acknowledging the challenges of the last two years and recognizing Options employees for their commitment to the mission. “It has been my privilege, particularly these last two years, to lead and be part of the most caring, compassionate, and strong group of individuals that we call Team Options. Over 200 strong, our team worked tirelessly to ensure the safety, dignity, and care of more than 2,400 men, women, and children across Nassau and Suffolk Counties,” remarked Ms. Robano-Gross. Options recognized honoree, Dale Cole, Community Affairs Project Manager for Newsday, and the driving force behind Newsday Charities which provides vital support to local nonprofits. “Dale has impacted countless lives through her work,” stated Yolanda Robano-Gross. “Options has been the grateful recipient of support provided through Newsday Charities for many years, and we are thankful for Newsday’s efforts to activate Long Islanders in support of our communities most vulnerable residents.”

He believes in giving back

Michele is a resident in Options’ supportive housing and works as a peer specialist helping support others in their recovery from mental illness. Sharing her life

Wantagh Principal Awarded For Guidance Program Support school administrators who are not directly involved with guidance but provide valuable support to the program. In Dr. Guzzone’s two years as principal of the high school, he has worked with the guidance department on numerous initiatives, including the freshmen experience and a revamped course catalog. Additionally, his open door policy for students provides

them with a trusted adult they can turn to for help and support. Wantagh High School launched the freshmen experience program this year. Once per sixday cycle, ninth graders receive lessons delivered by the school’s guidance counselors on relevant topics such as college and career planning, effective communication, social

and emotional learning, social media awareness and time management and organizational skills. Dr. Guzzone noted that these lessons replaced a ninth grade study hall, so no instructional time was lost. “We’ve taken advantage of that gap and filled it with something meaningful for our freshmen,” he said. Freshmen also benefited from a redesigned ninth

grade orientation program, which is held in late August. Dr. Guzzone said that it is more engaging, with students divided into smaller groups so they have more opportunities to ask questions as they prepare for the transition to high school. The redesigned online course catalog, which is accessed by all incoming ninth through 12th graders,

Little Flower Children and Family Services of New York (Little Flower) is a human services organization that transforms caring into action to deliver services, programs and direction to improve the lives of children and families in crisis and people with developmental disabilities across New York City and Long Island. Little Flower has an unwavering commitment to providing quality services for individuals with developmental or intellectual disabilities. For more than 40 years, Little Flower has provided residential services that treat individuals with respect and dignity. They were one of the ﬁrst voluntary agencies to offer responsive and compassionate alternatives to state run institutions. Each person they serve is assisted in maximizing their potential for selfcare, social, emotional and physical development. The organization’s dedicated team of administrators, direct support professionals and clinicians work together to provide a continuum of care. Services are provided in residences across Queens and Long Island that feel like home.

The majority of individuals with developmental or intellectual disabilities served by Little Flower participate in their Family Care program. Family Care providers provide an extended, supportive family to individuals who cannot live independently in the community by welcoming them into their homes and families. They support them as they become productive and active members of their community. All Family Care providers are certiﬁed by New York State and are supervised and monitored by Little Flower. Family Care providers are a dedicated group that does so much day in and day out by providing personal, social, emotional and physical care. They help these extraordinary individuals live full lives, whether by assisting with scheduling and attending doctor’s appointments, supporting them in seeking employment or helping them gain new experiences on family vacations or community activities.

Little Flower also provides an on-site residential program, Individual Residential Alternatives (IRA), which consists of smallgroup residences that provide residents with more opportunities for greater independence. On any given day, direct support professionals help empower IRA residents by supporting them as they overcome challenges to reach their best potential. While supporting their basic health and well-being, they assist the residents with rehabilitation, guide them in recreational and group activities such as fishing trips or vacations, and support them in their day-to-day goals and as active members of their community. Little Flower continues to discover extraordinary abilities within their residents, and while those individuals may face a more challenging future than most, the organization is confident that they can still enjoy a full and active life. They truly feel that what they need most is encouragement, understanding and the willingness of others to help them maximize their opportunities for becoming part of the community. 24th Annual Lazy Days Of Summer Scheduled For July 16 Levittown Community Council will hold its annual Lazy Days of Summer event sharing it as a Levittown 75th Anniversary celebration on Saturday, July 16. A Levittown tradition for more than 20 years, the event is held at the East Village Green Park, Jerusalem Avenue and Meridien Road in Levittown The day is a nocost event with pony rides, a petting zoo, activities throughout the day, games and entertainment at one of Levittown’s beautiful village green areas. New to the event this year, is a blow up slide. All residents of Levittown and Island Trees are welcome to attend, bring a picnic lunch and enjoy the fun-filled, relaxing day. The event has been free to the community since its beginning and is made possible by Levittown Community Council members’ dues and the support of local residents and businesses. Deejay Tim Aldridge will be joining the celebration this year

as he has traditionally and the event will feature teen musical group BBQ Band. Other activities and some surprises are in the planning stages. The event begins at 11:30 AM and runs through 2:30 PM. Anyone interested in helping out, even if it’s for a couple of hours, can email levittowncouncil@ yahoo.com or call event chairperson, Louise Cassano at 516-7355901 to let her know what hours you can help out. Residents in the areas of Levittown and Island Trees school districts may become members. Individual memberships are $10 a year; family memberships are $15. Organizations and local businesses are also eligible for membership for $50. The mission of the Levittown Community Council, which was established in 1998 following Levittown’s 50th anniversary, is to bring together the community residents and organizations to maintain unity and pride.

Clothing Donations Needed For Long Island Children Ethical Friends of Children, a program helping needy families on Long Island, seeks clothing (tops, bottoms, pjs, sweaters and socks) in certain sizes. Specific sizes are: GIRLS: 3-4, 4-5 and 9-10 and BOYS:

7-8 and 9-10. Ethical Friends of Children is an outreach program of the Ethical Humanist Society of Long Island., established in 1985. “We assist more than 2,500 children and their families

each year by providing them clothing for children from newborn to size 12 as well as infant furniture at no cost,” says Pat Spencer of Port Washington. The “store” – staffed entirely by volunteers – lets families
