On Saturday April 25th the women of the Strong Island Derby Revolution (SIDR) hit the track in their second home game of this season as they take on the Jerzey Derby Brigade (JDB) from Morristown, NJ. Last season, these two teams battled it out with SIDR taking the win both home and away. “This is by far one of the most physical teams we’ve played to date so it’s always an exciting time for fans,” said Doc Block, coach of the Strong Island Revolution. would bring you down to their level, if you let them. It’s an effort, to be sure, to block out and continue on your merry way. But what other choice do we have? There comes a point when you need to avoid being sucked into the cycle. I often envy those who seem to exude nothing but positive vibes, who appear to be in a constant state of contentment. Is it genuine? How do they achieve such a mentality and, better yet, maintain it continuously? I suppose, even if it is merely a means of keeping up appearances, such a skill should be applauded. Fake it ‘til you make it, as they say. Perhaps they should hold a class on that.

The Marfan Foundation hosts its second annual Walk for Victory on Long Island on Saturday, May 2nd, at 12 p.m. at the Syosset-Woodbury Community Park in Woodbury. This mile-long walk is part of a nationwide program to help raise awareness and raise funds to create a brighter future for the many thousands of individuals and families

Institute Medical Marvels Competition and will receive a $300 scholarship. The students presented a paper, poster and oral presentation on the development of a mobile application for student stress management. Also competing was freshman team Danica Deutsch, Hannah Grunfeld, Maggie Liu and Helen Zhang.

During the Medical Marvels Conference, competitors submitted and presented a paper based on the 2015 topic of adolescent mental health. They also learned more about stress management and current research in the adolescent health research field by professionals from the Feinstein Institute and Zucker Hillside Hospital.

The chaser scores the white quaffles; the beater tags any player, except the keeper, with the bludger; the keeper serves as goalie; and the seeker tries to find the Golden Snitch. In the school version of the game, the seeker must use their words to aptly describe the location of the snitch. Students record their scores and winners are announced at the end of

the unit. There is also a literary component. Prior to the first game, the students were divided into teams (houses) and instructed to describe their team attributes on a paper house, which hangs on the wall of the gymnasium. Ms. Moran also questioned the older students on their knowledge of the books prior to the start of the game. Speaking one at a time in short, scripted phrases, the students also expressed their devotion to being a MacArthur High School General. The video was played throughout the school on Smart Boards during the morning announcements and on video screens in front of the main office. Fazzolari explained that during the computer

skills class, he noticed the autistic students had some very advanced skills and were extremely visual. “We always see the students in the hall and say hello,” he said. “I decided to put them on camera and see if they could do this project, and it came out wonderfully.” Autism program teacher Diann Drury said the students all have different abilities, and success in working with these students is about reaching those individual abilities.
