T h e Twilight Wish Foundation is a 501(c) (3) non-proﬁt organization whose mission is to honor and enrich the lives of seniors through intergenerational Twilight Wish celebrations. Since the organization’s founding in 2003, their goal has been to make the world a nicer place to age, one Twilight Wish at a time. When a Twilight Wish is granted, a senior is recognized for all that they have done throughout their lives and is shown that they are appreciated and valued. To date, the Twilight Wish Foundation has granted over 3,700 wishes throughout our country and multiple wishes have being granted on Long Island recently! These wishes have ranged from simple needs wishes, such as shaving razors for nursing home veterans, to living life to the fullest wishes, such as going cross country in a tractor trailer truck. Recently, many Long Island residents had their wishes come true. Below is a story about Patricia, who recently had her wish granted. You could be next! Patricia Bachmore is a 75 year old resident of Amityville. She wished for new furniture and thanks to the Long Island chapter of this national nonproﬁt, her wish was granted! Patricia has fostered and socialized rescue kittens and cats for years. Understandably, that took a toll on her furniture. Although the furniture was old and falling apart, she could not afford to replace it on her own because of her limited income. In December of 2020, The Twilight Wish Foundation granted her with a new sofa and kitchen chairs, which she wished for. In addition to her work with rescue organizations, Patricia is part of the Amityville neighborhood watch program and also works with the Town

of Babylon’s 311 citizens complaint unit. She also assists other senior citizens in her mobile home park with grocery shopping and other errands. THANK YOU PATRICIA FOR ALL OF YOUR SELFLESS EFFORTS! You can qualify for a Twilight Wish if you are at least 65 years old, are a legal U.S. citizen, demonstrate ﬁnancial need, provide a history of giving back to others and possess the cognitive, emotional and physical ability to experience the wish. Please note, when going to grant a wish, this foundation takes all the necessary safety precautions. If you are interested in volunteering with their Long Island Chapter, you can ﬁll out the Chapter Volunteer Application at www.twilightwish.org/volunteeropportunities/ and someone will get in contact with you regarding how you can do so. Spring Celebration Drive Thru At Belmont Lake State Park The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation is pleased to announce that they will be hosting a Spring Celebration Drive Thru at Belmont Lake State Park on Saturday, March 27 and Sunday, March 28, 2021 from 12:00pm3:00pm both days. This is a free event and all are

welcome! Patrons will be able to drive through various displays celebrating spring along with appearances by princesses, Ghostbusters and the Spring Bunny! All children will receive a giveaway on a first come, first served basis while supplies last. All

Return Of Bethpage Air Show At Jones Beach State Park Governor Andrew M. Cuomo recently announced the Bethpage Air Show at Jones Beach State Park will return this Memorial Day weekend after a one-year absence. The outdoor show, sponsored by Bethpage Federal Credit Union, features a range of military and civilian aerial performers. This year’s show will be a ticketed event, with reduced capacity and social distancing measures in place to ensure a safe return of the patriotic Long Island beachfront tradition. “As we continue to see progress in our fight against COVID and cautiously reopen our state, we can look forward to enjoying more and more outdoor adventures this summer - including the annual Bethpage Air Show at Jones Beach State Park,” Governor Cuomo said. “With safety measures in place, New Yorkers and visitors can get back to enjoying all that Jones Beach and Long Island State Parks have to offer, and this annual festival is a great way to get outdoors and support the regional Long Island economy.” The Bethpage Air Show at Jones Beach, one of the most popular events on Long Island, was canceled last year due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Its return this year brings back a Memorial Day weekend tradition that celebrates the beginning of summer at Long Island’s beaches, and honors military families and those who serve our country. This year’s show features the United States Air Force Thunderbirds, the United States Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt (Warthog), United States Army Golden Knights U.S. Army parachute team, and United States Coast Guard Search and Rescue team, as well as many other worldclass civilian performers. The Bethpage Air Show will take place Friday, May 28, (Practice show); Saturday, May 29, and Sunday, May 30, 2021 from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. each day. Visitors must purchase a ticket in advance to park at Jones Beach during the show. Details on purchasing a ticket

THUNDERBIRDS will be announced at a later date. Parking capacity will be reduced by 50 percent, and only those with a ticket will be allowed to enter. State Parks will have additional staff on hand to enforce all health and safety requirements, including face covering requirements and social distancing. State Park Police will be supplemented by assistance from New York State Police. Individuals with appointments at the Jones Beach Covid-19 testing or vaccine sites will not be impacted, and will be able to enter through dedicated traffic lanes. State Parks Commissioner Erik Kulleseid said, “What better way to begin summer beach season than the Bethpage Air Show at Jones Beach. Thanks to Governor Cuomo’s leadership and support, State Parks is excited to host the return of the Air Show. I’m grateful for all the sponsors, partners, performers and staff who work hard to carry on this tradition that brings so many families and friends together.”

New York Blood Center Announces A Blood Emergency New York Blood Center (NYBC) announces a blood shortage in the region, one year after New York was the epicenter of the pandemic. Before COVID-19, donors could stop by community blood drives at convenient locations like high schools, colleges, and offices. It has been one year since these groups had to cancel their blood drives due to COVID-19 and few have been able to resume these life-saving events. NYBC currently has a 4 day supply of blood, which is well below what is needed by area hospitals. New York’s healthcare system requires 1,500 donations each day to treat

patients ranging from trauma victims to newborn babies and their mothers to cancer patients. Donors with type O and type B blood are especially needed as NYBC currently has a 1-2 day supply of these blood types. “With thousands of New Yorkers getting vaccinated each day, we are thrilled to watch our state recover from this catastrophic year,” said Andrea Cefarelli, Senior Executive Director at New York Blood Center. “As New York bounces back in strides this spring, we need everyone to make an appointment and donate blood to help save lives. While the end of

the pandemic is near, our struggle to fight for those in need continues.” We are taking extra precautions to help prevent the person-to-person spread of COVID-19. As always, people are not eligible to donate if they’re experiencing a cold, sore throat, respiratory infection or flu-like symptoms. Kiwanis Club of Levittown DVD Drive for Soldiers and Children The Kiwanis Club of Levittown recently teamed with Massapequa-based “Big Hy for Heroes” to spearhead a drive to collect and distribute thousands of DVDs for US troops overseas and for children in local hospitals. In just six weeks, and through mere word-ofmouth, we collected and distributed well over 15,000 DVDs – from movie mysteries, comedies &

thrillers, to TV series and informational/educational specials. In addition to the 15,000+ DVDs sent to the troops, we also received hundreds of children’s videos, which were donated to local cancer-treatment hospitals. This is just one of the many services and projects Levittown Kiwanis, along with our affiliate Key Clubs, engage in throughout the year – even during this

Students Assist At Habitat For Humanity Build assisted at a Habitat for Humanity project. At the Bellport home, the group first assisted with demolition.

“We took down the satellite dishes on the roof,” explained Brody Cappola, a student in the program. “Then we

went inside of the house and took out all of the switches that went to the lights. Some of the switches also controlled half hat outlets. We then took out all of the wire running to the switches. We also took out the doorbell, circulator pump, transformer and thermostat.” The students will return to the house again to install all new wiring and a panel box. This type of out-ofclassroom experience

involves hands-on skill and theory training. “The students are able to train as well as give back by volunteering to work on the electrical system,” explained the program’s assistant director Robert McLaughlin. The students were overseen by course instructor Pedro Salcedo. “The confidence the students demonstrated speaks volumes for the training methodology developed by Electrical and

HVAC/R Training Center,” added Salcedo. The Electrical Trade Program is in association with the Electrical and HVAC/R Training Center, Inc. This program is designed to develop the skills and knowledge necessary for students to enter the electrical trade field. In school district’s continued effort to support student success, has provided this program free of charge for graduating high school seniors.
