The Babylon Breast Cancer Coalition (BBCC) was founded in 1993 by three friends who lived in Babylon. Determined to fight against breast cancer by raising awareness and educating women, the BBCC with their dedicated volunteers undertook the task of completing a demographic survey to ascertain the incidence of breast cancer in Babylon. From this, a volunteer driven grass-roots organization grew, which serves the entire Township of Babylon, including those with all gynecological cancers in addition to those with breast cancer. Today they provide direct patient services and support to help ease the burdens that breast and all gynecological cancers put on patients and their families/caregivers. In addition to assisting in the basic needs of those battling cancer, they also reach out to the community at large, providing educational programs to encourage healthier lifestyles, which would decrease the still very high instance of these cancers in our community. Please note, if you do not live in this township, you can still reach out to the BBCC to find out who in your area can be of help to you. The BBCC’s premier program is titled Lend a Helping Hand (LAHH). Since its inception in 1996, this unique patient service program provides much needed stress relief for breast cancer patients currently in treatment, as well as their families confronting diagnosis and ensuing treatments, such as chemotherapy and radiation. Later on, the BBCC expanded the LAHH program to include Babylon Township women undergoing treatment for all types of gynecological cancers. Some of the services this program offers include house cleaning, transportation to/from medical appointments, financial

Purse puzzles were once an innovative way to send notes and illustrations and express other sentiments. Purse puzzles became popular around 1720 and remained so until roughly 1840. The puzzles consisted of a sheet of paper folded into smaller parts. When unfolded, the purse puzzle would reveal several messages and hand-drawn art. In the 19th century, purse puzzles were a clever way for lovers to send love notes on Valentine’s Day or other times of the year. Purse puzzles were a form of paper art, similar to origami. Valentine’s celebrants can rekindle the magic of purse puzzles to add creative flair to this year’s celebrations. They can be made easily with tutorials found on websites such as Snapguide. com (https://snapguide. com/guides/make-puzzlepurses/). The finished puzzle will take a square shape and open up like a pinwheel until the full sheet of paper is revealed.

Supervisor Don Clavin and Town Clerk Kate Murray recently announced the expansion of the Town of Hempstead’s “stickerless” and “contactless” commuter parking permit application process to town-operated train station lots at Baldwin, Merrick, Bellmore, Wantagh and Seaford – offering an essential service to residents in a more safe and efficient manner in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. Starting April 1st, commuters who park at these lots will no longer have to place stickers on the back of their vehicles, as enforcement will be conducted via a license plate scanning technology. This program expansion comes after a hugely successful test run conducted over the past six months at the Oceanside train station. “The expansion of this streamlined parking

permit service is just another example of the many ways that the Town of Hempstead is staying ‘on track’ by continuing to provide essential programs and services safely during the COVID-19 pandemic,” stated Supervisor Clavin. “I salute Town Clerk Kate Murray for the many innovative developments her office has implemented to continue serving the residents of America’s largest township.” “Residents who commute via the Oceanside train station have expressed great satisfaction with the ‘stickerless’ and ‘contactless’ program over the past several months, and we are proud to expand this great service to commuters in Baldwin, Merrick, Bellmore, Wantagh and Seaford,” added Town Clerk Murray. “This entire application process can be completed

online without ever leaving home and eliminates the need for the unpopular car bumper stickers. We encourage all commuters to take advantage of this great new program.” In the coming weeks, all commuters who currently have a parking permit at Baldwin, Merrick, Bellmore, Wantagh and Seaford will receive letters reminding them to renew their permits, which expire March 31st. Permit holders – and those who wish to apply for the first time – may do so by visiting hempsteadtown. com/townclerk on their phone, tablet or computer and filling out the brief application. The town will also be installing signs with QR codes at all of the above stations so that commuters can scan the code on their mobile devices and fill out the application while sitting on the train.

The cost is $10 for the year (April 1st through March 31, 2022); and $5 for seniors (60 and over), veterans, handicapped, auxiliary police and volunteer fire and ambulance personnel. Parking permits are free for active military. Parking enforcement will be conducted by the Town of Hempstead Department of Public Safety using a state-of-the-art license plate scanning technology, so residents no longer need to replace stickers on their car bumpers each year. This makes the process safer and more efficient for both commuters and town personnel. This parking permit service is one the many programs that Town Clerk Murray has adapted during the COVID-19 pandemic to be safer and more efficient for both residents and town staff. These initiatives include trailers outside of

Town Hall where residents can conduct town-related business such as obtaining birth and death certificates, various licenses, passports and other essential services. Town Clerk Murray has also officiated hundreds of safe, socially distanced weddings outside of Town Hall, at other beautiful destinations within the Town of Hempstead and via FaceTime and Zoom. “I am committed to providing these essential services to Town of Hempstead residents in the safest and most efficient way,” said Town Clerk Murray. “We encourage all commuters to take advantage of this new stickerless parking program.” “I commend Town Clerk Kate Murray for everything she is doing to continue serving our residents while making safety her top priority,” concluded
