The Charity of The Month for February is: Girls on the Run of Long Island www.gotrlongisland.org Girls on the Run is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. They run a physical activity-based positive youth development program that is designed to enhance girls’ social, psychological and physical skills and behaviors to help them successfully navigate life experiences.
They serve girls in grades 3-5 and inspire them to be joyful, healthy and confident by using a fun, interactive curriculum, which creatively integrates running! Meeting twice a week in small teams for a 10-week season, a volunteer coach will teach girls life skills through engaging lessons and fun movement activities. At each season’s conclusion, all girls from teams across Long Island will meet up for a celebratory 5K running event. This year’s 5K event is scheduled for Saturday, June 6 at Hofstra University, where over 1000 individuals will run, volunteer or spectate to celebrate! Their upcoming spring season will begin the week of March 16th and is shaping up to be their largest season yet! What to expect in a 10-week curriculum: Each 10-week curriculum includes lessons that specifically target helping girls improve in competence, confidence, caring, character, connection and contribution.
Girls will learn skills and strategies such as how to manage emotions, help others, make intentional decisions and resolve conflict, that they use at home, school and with friends. All coaches are trained to teach as intended, while building relationships with and between girls, creating a positive, inclusive environment and supporting individual improvement. During the 10 weeks, girls will also be inspired to build lives of purpose and to make a meaningful contribution to community and society. PUBLIC NOTICE OF COUNTY TREASURER’S SALE OF TAX LIENS ON REAL ESTATE Notice is hereby given that I shall, commencing on February 18, 2020, sell at public on-line auction the tax liens on real estate herein-after described, unless the owner, mortgagee, occupant of or any other party-in-interest in such real estate shall pay to the County Treasurer by February 13, 2020 the total amount of such unpaid taxes or assessments with the interest, penalties and other expenses and charges, against the property. Such tax liens will be sold at the lowest rate of interest, not exceeding 10 percent per six months period, for which any person or persons shall offer to take the total amount of such unpaid taxes as defined in section 5-37.0 of the Nassau County Administrative Code. Effective with the February 18, 2020 lien sale, Ordinance No. 175-2015 requires a $175.00 per day registration fee for each person who intends to bid at the tax lien sale. Ordinance No. 175-2015 also requires that upon the issuance of the Lien Certificate there is due from the lien buyer a Tax Certificate Issue Fee of $20.00 per lien purchased. Pursuant to the provisions of the Nassau County Administrative Code at the discretion of the Nassau County Treasurer the auction will be conducted online. Further information concerning the procedures for the auction is available at the website of the Nassau County Treasurer at: https://www.nassaucountyny.gov/526/County-Treasurer Should the Treasurer determine that an in-person auction shall be held, same will commence on the 18th day of February, 2020 at the Office of The County Treasurer 1 West Street, Mineola or at some other location to be determined by the Treasurer. Levittown Public Schools Visits Harley Avenue Harley Avenue Primary School opened its doors to teachers and administrators from Levittown Public Schools on Jan. 17 to observe reading, writing and phonics instruction at the elementary school. Principal Elissa Millan
explained that for the past five years both Harley Avenue and James H. Boyd Intermediate School have been part of the Teachers College Reading and Writing Project, whose goal is to is to help young people become skilled readers, writers and
inquirers through reading, writing and phonics instruction. On Jan. 17, Harley Avenue Primary School helped model that literacy program for Levittown, which is looking to implement a similar program. Harley’s kindergarten

Viscardi Ambassadors Visit Bowling Green In recognition of Disability Awareness Day, the Viscardi Ambassadors from the Henry Viscardi School recently visited Christina O’Neill’s fifth grade students at Bowling Green Elementary School in the East Meadow School District. The Viscardi Ambassa-
dors are comprised of boys and girls of different ages, grade levels and hometowns. Their visits are aimed to break down the barriers that exist between the able-bodied world and those with physical challenges. The ambassadors created presentations about their
lives, including their interests, disabilities, family lives and experiences at Viscardi. In addition, they encouraged the fifth graders to ask questions about their presentations and lives. The district is proud to welcome these visitors each year.

Department of Education’s ‘Faith in the Public Square’ Initiative Benefits Patients in Catholic Health Services Cancer Care Centers Wednesday, January 29th, Hicksville – As an outward expression of their faith, members of the Diocese of Rockville Centre’s Catholic school community coordinated a winter-themed service project to benefit patients in Catholic Health Services cancer care facilities. The project, done by faculty staff, students, Girl Scouts and parents completed and donated over 150 handmade blankets to a team from Catholic Health Services at a ceremony at the Department of Education’s Hicksville offices on Wednesday. The blankets will be used to help keep cancer patients warm and comfortable at various CHS facilities across Long Island. “We hope that the warmth of the blankets, and the prayers and warm wishes of these beautiful school communities brings comfort to all who are suffering.” Said Dr. Kathleen Walsh, Superintendent of Schools for the Diocese. On hand at the ceremony representing the schools were Kathy Moran, principal of Holy
Trinity High School with some students, and Maryalice Doherty, principal of Holy Family School along with some of her elementary students. Local Photographer Achieves Rare Milestone
Photo aficionado Sean Fitzthum was honored at the January meeting of the Wantagh Chamber of Commerce. This long-time Long-Island resident was recognized for achieving ten wins in the Wantagh Photo Contest – a rare milestone that only one other photographer, David Lepelstat, attained in the eighteen-year history of the competition. To mark the occasion, Sean was awarded a Customized Solid-Granite Trophy, a one-year subscription to the Wantagh Herald Citizen, a $100 Gift Certificate to Berger Brothers Camera, and Certificates of Recognition from local officials. Native Long Islander Sean Fitzthum was attending AiNYC for graphic design, when he took a photography class and was “immediately hooked”. In addition to
his formal education, Sean credits his old roommate Chris Kozloff, his mentor Daniel Goodrich and the school-of-hard-knocks for his talent. As Sean puts it “I learn something new every time I go shooting”. Sean enjoys “all kinds of photography” but his favorite is a tossup between concert photos and cityscapes. This skillful shutterbug learned on digital, in fact, he never shot on film which is lucky for his wallet, as he has taken almost a half million photos. Sean’s enterprise, SMF Photos, is where he captures a variety of images for clients including cityscapes, concert and travel. Other competitions that Sean has won include Newsday’s Photo of the Week and he was one of fifty finalists whose work was displayed in the lobby of the Empire State Building. Sean was
also featured on News12, NBC 4 News, Fox 5 News, and NY1. Since September 2002, the Wantagh website has sponsored this free photography competition providing all with an opportunity to submit their photos taken in Wantagh. Winning photographers receive an official signed certificate and a Wantagh gift which gets better with each win. The winning photo and the photographer’s name are featured on the homepage for the winning month, and are posted permanently in the winner’s list.
