Hope For The Warriors’ 30x30 Memorial Day Challenge

Registration is open for the Hope For The Warriors 30x30 Memorial Day Challenge, a free virtual wellness event focused on physical and emotional well-being while honoring U.S. service members who paid the ultimate sacrifice.

Hosted by Craig Conover, a Bravo television personality and Hope For The Warriors board council member, the challenge runs May 1–30. Participants commit to at least 30 minutes of physical activity each day for 30 consecutive days. Activities may include walking, running, hiking, swimming, strength training, or

dancing.

Individuals and teams can register at hopeforthewarriors.org.

Participants may log daily activity through the website to track cumulative progress and earn up to 30 mission points each day. Prizes will be awarded to the top three participants at the conclusion of the challenge.

Adaptive Playground Fosters Inclusivity

Inclusivity and unity were celebrated at Seaford Manor Elementary School on April 24 with a ribboncutting ceremony for an adaptive playground. Board of education trustees, administrators, teachers, students and parents came together to celebrate a moment that was a long time in the making.

“Our new adaptive playground at Seaford Manor is more than just a space to play,” Principal Joann Krudis said. “It’s a place where every child feels seen, included and empowered. It reflects our commitment to creating an environment where all students can learn, grow and thrive together.”

The largest piece of equipment includes a ramp leading up to a rocker. Swings and rocker chairs were chosen for their accessibility and ability to fulfill sensory needs.

“This playground represents years of thoughtful planning, collaboration and a shared commitment to our children and our school community,” Ms. Culella-Sun said.

“We are proud to open a space designed for play, exploration and connection,

a place where our students can build friendships, grow in confidence and simply enjoy being children. It’s a space that reflects not only creativity and care, but also our shared values of belonging, unity and respect for one another.”

The ribbon-cutting took place on the second annual Vikings United Day, which is a districtwide initiative that celebrates all individuals and their abilities while connecting to the values of Seaford pride. It included social and emotional learning activities at each school that promoted kindness and belonging.

The annual FourLeaf Air Show at Jones Beach State Park will take place on Sunday, July 5, 2026, and Monday, July 6, 2026, as part of the United States’ Semiquincentennial (250th) celebration.

Traditionally held over Memorial Day weekend, the 2026 air show has been rescheduled to align with Fleet Week New York, which has also moved to the July 4th holiday weekend. The United States Navy Blue Angels will headline the show, joined by additional military performers and internationally recognized civilian aerobatic acts.

Hamburgers are a staple of menus in millions of homes. Whether you’re hosting friends on Memorial Day weekend or simply looking for a hearty midweek meal, burgers and summertime cooking go hand in hand. Hamburgers are a straightforward dish that are often prepared on a grill. But burgers also can be prepared on a stovetop, which can add a new flavor profile to this beloved staple. Those looking to do just that can try this recipe for “Beef Burgers With Onions, Spinach, Ketchup, and Blue Cheese” from Lines+Angles.

DIRECTIONS:

For the sauce: Heat the oil in a pan and lightly sauté the diced onion and garlic. Stir in the honey and sugar and simmer briefly. Mix in the tomato puree, passata, Worcestershire sauce, vinegar, and whiskey. Simmer until thickened. Season the sauce with salt, pepper, paprika, and chilli powder to taste.

For the burgers: Place the beef in a bowl, add the onions, salt, pepper, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, and chili sauce, and mix well. Shape into 4 burgers. Preheat a griddle pan. Lightly oil the pan and grill the burgers for 8 to 10 minutes, turning once. During the last minute of cooking, top the burgers with cheese and allow to melt. Remove the burgers from the pan and set aside. Halve the burger buns horizontally and toast in the pan, cut-side down, for 1 minute, then remove. Layer the bottom half of each bun with spinach and sprinkle with crispy onions. Place the burgers on top, drizzle with tomato sauce and cover with the top bun halves. Fix with a skewer if desired and serve with the remaining sauce separately.

Nassau Town Supervisors Demand Transparency, Safety, And Fairness In Propel NY Energy Project

Hempstead Town Supervisor John Ferretti, North Hempstead Town Supervisor Jennifer DeSena and Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino continued to sound the alarm on the proposed Propel NY Energy transmission project, warning that critical questions remain unanswered as the plan moves toward final approval before the New York State Public Service Commission (PSC). In a joint letter to PSC leadership, the Supervisors made clear: without transparency, accountability, and real protection for residents, this project cannot move forward. Representing the overwhelming majority of Nassau County’s population, Town officials emphasized that their top priority is protecting residents—not rubber-stamping a project that could raise costs, threaten public safety, and

disrupt communities.

Town of Hempstead Supervisor John Ferretti stated, “Nassau County families are already stretched thin. We will not allow them to be saddled with higher utility bills for a project that may not even benefit them. Show us the numbers, show us the plan, and prove this is fair—or it shouldn’t move forward.”

Skyrocketing Costs for Local Ratepayers

Nassau residents already pay some of the highest utility rates in the nation. The Supervisors are demanding a full cost breakdown and clear answers on who benefits from this project. Bottom line: Nassau families should not foot the bill for infrastructure that serves other regions.

Public Health at Risk

The proposed 345kV transmission lines have raised serious concerns about electromagnetic field

(EMF) exposure. Officials are calling for independent, route-wide testing, especially near homes, schools, and parks. Health and safety are non-negotiable.

Town of North Hempstead Supervisor Jennifer DeSena stated, “Our residents deserve straight answers— about costs, health impacts, and safety. Until we have full transparency and independent verification, we cannot and will not support this proposal.”

Fire Risks from Battery Storage Facilities
