Nassau Town Supervisors Demand Transparency, Safety, And Fairness In Propel NY Energy Project
Hempstead Town Supervisor John Ferretti, North Hempstead Town Supervisor Jennifer DeSena and Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino continued to sound the alarm on the proposed Propel NY Energy transmission project, warning that critical questions remain unanswered as the plan moves toward final approval before the New York State Public Service Commission (PSC). In a joint letter to PSC leadership, the Supervisors made clear: without transparency, accountability, and real protection for residents, this project cannot move forward. Representing the overwhelming majority of Nassau County’s population, Town officials emphasized that their top priority is protecting residents—not rubber-stamping a project that could raise costs, threaten public safety, and disrupt communities.
Town of Hempstead Supervisor John Ferretti stated, “Nassau County families are already stretched thin. We will not allow them to be saddled with higher utility bills for a project that may not even benefit them. Show us the numbers, show us the plan, and prove this is fair—or it shouldn’t move forward.”

Nassau residents already pay some of the highest utility rates in the nation. The Supervisors are demanding a full cost breakdown and clear answers on who benefits from this project. Bottom line: Nassau families should not foot the bill for infrastructure that serves other regions.

The proposed 345kV transmission lines have raised serious concerns about electromagnetic field
(EMF) exposure. Officials are calling for independent, route-wide testing, especially near homes, schools, and parks. Health and safety are non-negotiable.
Town of North Hempstead Supervisor Jennifer DeSena stated, “Our residents deserve straight answers— about costs, health impacts, and safety. Until we have full transparency and independent verification, we cannot and will not support this proposal.”
Fire Risks from Battery Storage Facilities
The Supervisors are pressing for answers on whether this project is tied to Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) planned for Long Island. Local fire departments have warned of dangerous “thermal runaway” fires that are extremely difficult to control and can release toxic fumes.

Special Olympics New York Spring Games In Massapequa A Prideful Moment For 750+ Long Island Athletes
Tremendous pride filled the grounds of Berner Middle School on May 2, as thousands of athletes, coaches, volunteers and spectators arrived for opening ceremony of the 56th annual Special Olympics New York Long Island Region Spring Games presented by Northwell Health and in partnership with the Massapequa School District and Town of Oyster Bay.
More than 750 athletes from 58 teams competed in four events – powerlifting, swimming, tennis and track and field. The opening ceremony featured a parade of athletes, who proudly walked down the track behind their school banners and onto the turf field as Superintendent of Schools Dr. William Brennan announced each team. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Massapequa student Jada Maroldo and the national anthem was sung by Jesse Findling, a 2023 Massapequa High School graduate and recent American Idol contestant.

Ms. Hengsterman honored three coaches for their contributions to the program. She presented a Rising Star award to Anthony Schibelli who created the first-ever Special Olympics training club at the Nassau BOCES Seaman Neck Middle School. She also recognized Hall of Fame inductees Joe Amadeo, a coach for 20 years with Special Olympics New York, and Ellen Schuster, whose coaching career has spanned 25 years.
Commissioner Ryder and officers from the 7th Precinct accompanied Massapequa athletes for the torch-lighting ceremony. The torch bearer was Massapequa student Lucas Friedman, and joining him were Grace Brown, Luke
Casale, Ivan Gribko and Olivia Razzano. Olivia led the crowd in the Special Olympics oath before officially launching the competition by exclaiming, “Let the games begin.”
The powerlifting and track and field events took place throughout the day at Berner Middle School, with tennis held at nearby Marjorie Post Park. The Farmingdale School District’s aquatic complex hosted swimming. Medal ceremonies took place throughout the day after each event. From the Massapequa School District, 41 athletes from four teams – East Lake Elementary, McKenna Elementary, Berner/Ames and Massapequa High School – took part in track and field events.
An Olympic village at Berner Middle School included a DJ, food trucks, games and vendors. Special Olympics New York was supported by more than 600 volunteers including Massapequa students, administrators, teachers and community members.
“We are incredibly grateful for our partnership with the Massapequa School District and for the way they welcomed over 750 Special Olympics New York athletes into their community,” Ms. Colonna said. “They provided an exceptional day of authentic sports competition. We can’t wait until next year.”

Registration is open for the Hope For The Warriors 30x30 Memorial Day Challenge, a free virtual wellness event focused on physical and emotional well-being while honoring U.S. service members who paid the ultimate sacrifice.
Hosted by Craig Conover, a Bravo television personality and Hope For The Warriors board council member, the challenge runs through May 30th. Participants commit to at least 30 minutes of physical activity each day for 30 consecutive days. Activities may include walking, running, hiking, swimming, strength training, or dancing. United States Navy Blue Angels To Headline The 2026 FourLeaf Air Show At Jones Beach
The annual FourLeaf Air Show at Jones Beach State Park will take place on Sunday, July 5, 2026, and Monday, July 6, 2026, as part of the United States’ Semiquincentennial (250th) celebration.
Traditionally held over Memorial Day weekend, the 2026 air show has been rescheduled to align with Fleet Week New York, which has also moved to the July 4th holiday weekend. The United States Navy Blue Angels will headline the show, joined by additional military performers and internationally recognized civilian aerobatic acts.
Although the air show will not be held on Memorial Day weekend in 2026, Jones Beach State Park will still host events during that time to honor those who
made the ultimate sacrifice in service to the nation.

These instructional lessons will be taught by a Level 1 PPR Certified Coach and aim to introduce participants to the fundamentals of pickleball. No experience is necessary to register.

6:50 p.m. at Allen Park, 45 Motor Ave., Farmingdale 14- 17 Year Olds: Tuesdays & Thursdays 7:00 p.m.7:50 p.m. at Allen Park, 45 Motor Ave., Farmingdale

Residents must upload proof of residency (tax or utility bill) and birth certificate for child. Children must be at least 8-years-old at the start of the program. Fees
are $100 for residents and $125 for non-residents. Refunds will be available until Thursday, July 9, 2026 at a 5% administrative fee and will be prorated for the number of days attended. Lessons are 50 minutes long and will last for six consecutive weeks. Participants are encouraged to bring their own paddle and must wear sneakers.
